Monolithic molecularly imprinted columns were designed and prepared by an in-situ thermal-initiated copolymerization technique for rapid separation of tryptophan and N- CBZ-phenylalanine enantiomers. The influence of polymerization conditions and separation conditions on the specific molecular recognition ability for enantiomers and diastereomers was investigated. The specious molecular recognition was found to be dependent on the stereo structures and the arrangement of functional groups of the imprinted molecule and the cavities in the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). Moreover, hydrogen bonding interactions and hydrophobic interactions played an important role in the retention and separation. Compared to conventional MIP preparation procedures, the present method is very simple, and its macroporous structure has excellent separation properties.

This study provides a fundamental understanding of a cold finger melt crystallization technique by exploring the heat and mass transfer processes of cold finger separation. A series of experiments were performed using a simplified LiCl-CsCl system by varying initial CsCl concentrations (1, 3, 5, and 7.5 wt%), cold finger cooling rates (7.4, 9.8, 12.3, and 14.9 L/min), and separation times (5, 10, 15, and 30 min). Results showed a potential recycling rate of 0.36 g/min with a purity of 0.33 wt% CsCl in LiCl. A CsCl concentrated drip formation was found to decrease crystal purity especially for smaller crystal formations. Dimensionless heat and mass transfer correlations showed that separation production is primarily influenced by convective transfer controlled by cooling gas flow rate, where correlations are more accurate for slower cooling gas flow rates.

High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) is the most commonly used magnetic cell separation technique in biomedical science. However, parameters determining target cell capture efficiencies in HGMS are still not well understood. This limitation leads to loss of information and resources. The present study develops a bead-capture theory to predict capture efficiencies in HGMS. The theory is tested with CD3- and CD14-positive cells in combination with paramagnetic beads of different sizes and a generic immunomagnetic separation system. Data depict a linear relationship between normalized capture efficiency and the bead concentration. In addition, it is shown that key biological functions of target cells are not affected for all bead sizes and concentrations used. In summary, linear bead-capture theory predicts capture efficiency ($E_t$) in a highly significant manner.
ZSM-5 zeolite composite membranes have been synthesized from a silica sol solution containing TPABr as an organic template by the dip-coating and the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment techniques. The CO2 separation efficiency of synthesized composite membranes was also investigated. The permeation mechanism of CO2 through ZSM-5 membranses was the surface diffusion, and that of N2, O2, and He gases was Knudsen diffusion or activated diffusion depending on the synthetic method of membranes and the measurement temperature. The CO2/N2 separation factor of the membrane prepared by the dip-coating hydrothermal treatment was 2.5 at about 12$0^{\circ}C$, while the ZSM-5 composite membrane synthesized by the pressurized-coating hydrothermal treatment technique showed the CO2/N2 separation factor of 9.0 at room temperature higher than that ever reported in the literature.
Economic development involves increase in life expectancy as well as human health care. Consequently, demand for fish meal and fish oil is rapidly growing. In particular, Krill (Eupausia superba) oil product is in high demand due to its rich unsaturated-fatty acid, and thus stable supplies are necessary in the krill oil market. It is required for captured krills to be immediately frozen and stored during ship transport, since proteins of the krill are quickly denatured in natural temperature condition. However, the transportation cost has been sharply increased, which encourages researchers to involve in studies for development of efficient oil extraction process. In this study, a solid/liquid separation technique on boat for the krill oil was developed through triple separation tests using only a separator or using either brush or crusher prior to the separator. The separation tests revealed that the efficiency were 46.2, 60.2 and 60.4 % by the separator, combination with brush, and combination with crusher, respectively. In addition, it was found that byproduct, extracted cake, derived from the separation process could be used as a feed stuff. These results suggest that smashing using the brush or crusher prior to the separator is more efficient than using only the separator.

For an unbiased TF (Tansfer Function) estimations we investigate geomagnetic TF derived from ICHEON and YONGIN sites, employing RR (Remote Reference) and SNS (Signal Noise Separation) techniques. The Rh technique, which requires synchronized field variations recorded at a clean remote site, is a reliable method to minimize the bias of TF by uncorrelated noises in magnetic channels. Meanwhile, SNS technique based on the assumption of noise-free remote data can improve the signal-noise level by separating signal TF and noise TF, which is successfully applied to the environments with strong correlated noises. In this study, TF at YONGIN is analyzed using geomagnetic data from ICHEON site as a remote reference, which seem to have somewhat better data quality. The application of Rh technique reduces the bias of TF, which appears in single site robust estimation, and makes curves in the amplitude and phase of TF more smooth as frequency. Futhermore, in order to investigate noise source quantitatively, SNS technique is applied. The results of SNS suggest that dominant noise source seems to be located at western region of YONGIN. This noise source is considered to originate from railway system such as KTX and national subway. which passes through the west regions of YONGIN.
This paper presents an experimental technique to accurately separate a permanent magnetic field and an induced one from the total magnetic fields generated by a steel ship, through compensating for the Earth's magnetic field. To achieve this, an Earth's magnetic field simulator was constructed at a non-magnetic laboratory, and the field separation technique was developed, which consisted of five stages. The proposed method was tested with a scaled model ship, and its permanent and induced magnetic fields were successfully extracted from the magnetic field created by the ship. Finally, based on the separated permanent magnetic field data, the permanent magnetization distribution on the hull was predicted by solving an inverse problem. Accordingly, the permanent magnetic fields generated by the ship can easily be calculated at any depth of water.

$^{89}Zr$ with the favorable nuclear decay kinetics and chemical properties is an appealing radiometal for its application in immuno-PET using radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies. Rising demand of ultrahigh purity and high-specific activity $^{89}Zr$ has propelled the radiochemist worldwide to develop an overall efficacious method for its promising separation from the target matrix $^{89}Y$. The requirement of elevated radiochemical purity (${\geq}$ 99.99%) has accelerated the efforts since last two decades to achieve higher decontamination and separation factors of carrier free $^{89}Zr$ over $^{89}Y$ using several suitable separation techniques. However, each of the technique has its own pros and cons which prior to its actual medical application needs to be optimized and thoroughly scrutinized to avoid further complications during radiolabelling of the pharmaceuticals. In this short review article we will specifically consider as well focus on the historical development and the recent advances on the radiochemical separation of $^{89}Zr$ from $^{89}Y$ which will be helpful for the separation scientist involved in this area to understand the existing available means and plan the strategy to investigate and develop the novel techniques to overcome the problems involved in the present methods.
This article gives an overview of a recently developed channel system, frit-inlet asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (FI-AFlFFF), which can be applied for the separation of nanoparticles, proteins, and water soluble polymers. A conventiona l asymmetrical flow FFF channel has been modified into a frit-inlet asymmetrical type by introducing a small inlet frit near the injection point and the system operation of the FI-AFlFFF channel can be made with a great convenience. Since sample components injected into the FI-AFlFFF channel are hydrodynamically relaxed, sample injection and separation processes proceed without interruption of the migration flow. Therefore in FI-AFlFFF, there is no requirement for a valve operation to switch the direction of the migration flow that is normally achieved during the focusing/relaxation process in a conventional asymmetrical channel. In this report, principles of the hydrodynamic relaxation in FI-AFlFFF channel are described with equations to predict the retention time and to calculate the complicated flow variations in the developed channel. The retention and resolving power of FI-AFlFFF system are demonstrated with standard nanospheres and protreins. An attempt to elucidate the capability of FI-AFlFFF system for the separation and size characterization of nanoparticles is made with a fumed silica particle sample. In FI-AFlFFF, field programming can be easily applied to improve separation speed and resolution for a highly retaining component (very large MW) by using flow circulation method. Programmed FI-AFlFFF separations are demonstrated with polystyrene sulfonate standards and pululans and the dynamic separation range of molecular weight is successfully expanded.

In this paper, we have proposed a design for security network system passing through the non-security network which is commonly used for various networking services. Based on the security requirements which are assumed that the large classified data are bi-transmitted between a server and several terminals remotely located, some application methods of security techniques are suggested such as the network separation technique, the scale-down application technique of certification management system based on the PKI(Public Key Infrastructure), the double encryption application using the crypto-equipment and the asymmetric keys encryption algorithm, unrecoverable data deleting technique and system access control using USB device. It is expected that the application of this design technique for the security network causes to increase the efficiency of the existing network facilities and reduce the cost for developing and maintaining of new and traditional network security systems.
