A prediction of binary droplets collision is important in the formation of falling drops and the evolution of sprays. The droplet velocity, impact parameter and drop-size ratio have influence on the interaction of the droplets. By the effect of these parameter, the collision processes are generated with the complicated phenomena. The droplet collision can be classified into four interactions such as the bouncing, coalescence, reflexive separation and stretching separation. In this study, the two-phase flow of the droplet collision was simulated numerically by using the Level Set method. 2D axi-symmetric simulations on the head-on collisions in the coalescence and reflexive separation, and 3D simulation on the off-center collisions in the coalescence and stretching separation were performed. These numerical results showed good agreements with the experimental and analytical results. For tracking the identity of droplets after the collision, transport equation for the volume fraction of the each initial droplet were used. From this, the identities of droplets were analyzed on the collision of droplets having different size.
This paper presents about an example of circuit design and characteristics of inverter according to the variable capacitance of the DC voltage source separation capacitor used in ZVS-HB type high frequency resonant inverter. The soft switching technology known as ZVS is used to reduce turn off loss at switching. In the event the capacitance of the DC voltage source separation capacitor is varied, the analysis of inverter circuit has generally described by using normalized parameter and operating characteristics have been evaluated in terms of switching frequency and parameters. According to the calculated characteristics value, a method of the circuit designs and operating characteristic of the inverter is also presented in this paper. In addition, this paper proves the validity of theoretical analysis through the experiment. This proposed inverter shows that it can be practically used in future as power source system for the lighting equipment of discharge lamp, DC-DC converter etc.
PVDF membrane formation via TIPS was performed for PVDF/DBP and PVDF/DMP systems. PVDF/DBP system showed solid-liquid phase separation behavior, while PVDF/DMP system has liquid-liquid phase separation characteristic as well as solid-liquid phase separation characteristic. PVDF contents and cooling conditions had great influence on structure, and the effects of each parameter were examined. Spherulitic structure was obtained due to the dominant PVDF crystallization. Diluent rejected to the outside of spherulite occupied the surface of the PVDF spherulites to result in the microporous spherulite formation and micro-void between spherulites. PVDF/DMP system had competitive solid-liquid and liquid-liquid phase separation depending on the cooling path.
Effective science-based management of the basin water resources requires an understanding of the characteristics of the streams, such as the baseflow discharge. In this study, the base flow was estimated in the two watersheds with the least artificial factors among the Nakdong River watersheds, as determined using the chemical hydrograph separation technique. The 16-year (2004-2019) discontinuous observed stream flow and electrical conductivity data in the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) monitoring network were extended to continuous daily data using the TANK model and the 7-parameter log-linear model combined with the minimum variance unbiased estimator. The annual base flows at the upper Namgang Dam basin and the upper Nakdong River basin were both analyzed to be about 56% of the total annual flow. The monthly base flow ratio showed a high monthly deviation, as it was found to be higher than 0.9 in the dry season and about 0.46 in the rainy season. This is in line with the prevailing common sense notion that in winter, most of the stream flow is base flow, due to the characteristics of the dry season winter in Korea. It is expected that the chemical-based hydrological separation technique involving TANK and the 7-parameter log-linear models used in this study can help quantify the base flow required for systematic watershed water environment management.

Accurate estimation of modal parameters (i.e., natural frequency, damping ratio) of tall buildings is of great importance to their structural design, structural health monitoring, vibration control, and state assessment. Based on the combination of variational mode decomposition, smoothed discrete energy separation algorithm-1, and Half-cycle energy operator (VMD-SH), this paper presents a method for structural modal parameter estimation. The variational mode decomposition is proved to be effective and reliable for decomposing the mixed-signal with low frequencies and damping ratios, and the validity of both smoothed discrete energy separation algorithm-1 and Half-cycle energy operator in the modal identification of a single modal system is verified. By incorporating these techniques, the VMD-SH method is able to accurately identify and extract the various modes present in a signal, providing improved insights into its underlying structure and behavior. Subsequently, a numerical study of a four-story frame structure is conducted using the Newmark-β method, and it is found that the relative errors of natural frequency and damping ratio estimated by the presented method are much smaller than those by traditional methods, validating the effectiveness and accuracy of the combined method for the modal identification of the multi-modal system. Furthermore, the presented method is employed to estimate modal parameters of a full-scale tall building utilizing acceleration responses. The identified results verify the applicability and accuracy of the presented VMD-SH method in field measurements. The study demonstrates the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed VMD-SH method in accurately estimating modal parameters of tall buildings from acceleration response data.

Rotor wake interaction must be considered to understand the quadrotor flight, and the rotor separation distance is an important parameter that affects the rotor wake interaction. In this study, the wake characteristics were investigated with varying the rotor separation distance. The velocity field in the rotor wake was measured using digital PIV for hovering mode at Re = 34,000, and the wake boundaries from the inner and outer rotor tips were quantitatively compared with varying the rotor separation distance. The symmetric rotor-tip vortex shedding about the rotor axis was found at a large rotor separation distance. However, the wake boundary became more asymmetric about the rotor axis with decreasing the rotor separation distance. At the minimum rotor separation distance, in particular, a faster vortex decay was observed due to a strong vortex interaction between adjacent rotors.

The Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM), which is the reduced minimum from 2,000 ft to 1,000 ft at flight levels (FL) between 290 and FL410 inclusive, was implemented in 30 September 2005 within the Japanese domestic airspace. Prior to the implementation, safety assessment for the airspace in assumed RVSM environments was carried out. Some model parameter values of collision risk model were estimated using flight plan (progress) data and radar data. An estimate of vertical collision risk including operational risk was calculated using these together with given parameter values. The results obtained from this analysis are as follows. (1) Contribution of the vertical collision risk for the crossing routes is about 9 percents of the total technical risk. (2) The estimate of the collision risk is $4.1{\times}10^{-9}$ [fatal accidents / flight hour] and the value is smaller than a maximum allowable level of collision risk, i.e. $5{\times}10^{-9}$ [fatal accidents / flight hour], called the Target Level of Safety.

Implemented at the Geochang Observatory in South Korea, our slope detection and ranging (SLO-DAR) system features a 508 mm Cassegrain telescope (f /7.8), incorporating two Shack-Hartmann wave-front sensors (WFS) for precise measurements of atmospheric phase distortions, particularly from nearby binary or double stars, utilizing an 8 × 8 grid of sampling points. With an ability to reconstruct eight-layer vertical atmospheric profiles, the system quantifies the refractive index structure function (Cn2) through the crossed-beam method. Adaptable in vertical profiling altitude, ranging from a few hundred meters to several kilometers, contingent on the separation angle of binary stars, the system operates in both wide (2.5 to 12.5 arcminute separation angle) and narrow modes (11 to 15 arcsecond separation angle), covering altitudes from 122.3 to 611.5 meters and 6.1 to 8.3 kilometers, respectively. Initial measurements at the Geochang Observatory indicated Cn2 values up to 181.7 meters with a Fried parameter (r0) of 8.4 centimeters in wide mode and up to 7.8 kilometers with an r0 of 8.0 centimeters in narrow mode, suggesting similar seeing conditions to the Bohyun Observatory and aligning with a comparable 2014-2015 seeing profiling campaign in South Korea.
