  • Three new sesquiterpene lactone glucosides named dentatins A, B and C were isolated from lxeris dentata and the structures were elucidated as $3{\betha}, {\;}8{\betha}-dihydroxy-(1{\alpha}, 5{\alpha})guainan-10(14)-ene-6{\alpha}, {;\}12-olide-3-O-{\betha}-D-giucopyuranoside{\;}(1), {\;}3{\betha}, {\;}8{\betha}-dihydroxy-(1{\alpha}, {\;}5{\alpha})-guaian-4(15), {\;}10(14)-diene-6{\alpha}, {\;}12-plide-3-O-{\betha}-D-glucopyranoside{\;}(3)$, respectively, on the basis of spectral evidence.

  • Bromolactonization of 2-substituted-1-cyclohexenyl-1-acetic acids with 1, 3-dibromo-5, 5-dime-thylhydantoin 9DBH) and potsssium tertiary butoxide (t-BuOK0 in anhydrous DMF was found to proceed in a highly regioselective manner. The reaction predominantly resulted in the formation of ${\betha}-lactones$ (greater than 96%).

  • The feature of resolution enhancement by derivative operation is linked to one of the multivariate analysis, which is multiple linear regression with two options, all possible and stepwise regression. Examined samples were synthetic mixtures of 5 vitamins, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin phosphate, nicotinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride and ascorbic acid. All components in mixture were quantified with reasonably good accuracy and precision. Whole data processing procedure was accomplished on-line by the development of three computer programs written in APPLESOFT BASIC language.

  • Sedative principles of the seeds of Zizyphus vulgaris var. sphinosus have been characterized as sanjoinine-A (frangufoline), nuciferine and their congeners. Also, heat treatment of sanjoinine-A-produced a more active artifact, sanjoinine-Ahl, which provides a scientific basis for heat-processing (roasting) of this Oriental medicine.

  • Thirteen monoterpenes were examined for their effects on the bovine lens aldose reductase activity. the monoterpenes tested in this study showed mild inhibitory effects except 3-carene which did not show any significant effect. At the concentration of $10^{-3}$ M(+) Pulegon showed 42% inhibition on lens aldose reductase activity, which is the most otent effect among the tested substance.

  • Rhodium (II) (isobutyrate)$_{4}L_2$, an antinumor drug, was shown to reactr with nucleic acid base derivatives, A, G, U and C in chloroform solution. When these derivatives were treated with one of novel metal compounds, rhodium carboxylate in chloroform solution, a fairly strong complex formation was observed by spectroscopic techniques. The characteristic of these complex was that binding occured at the two axial positions of rhodium (II) (isobutyrate)$_{4}L_2$ to the NH or )$NH_2$ group of the base in the ligands.

  • Tissue factor (TF), a principal initiator of the veertebrate coagulation cascade, is expressed in organ tissues, cells and blood. TF is konwn to be induced in endothelial cells, monocytes and macrophages by inflammatory stimuli and in many pathologic conditions. By using the modified method for in vido TF activity assay, we found that turpentine oil injection as an inflamatory stimulus also induced the TF activity in lung and brain tissues of rats. And the age-related increase in Tf activity was observed in healthy rat brain tissue.
