  • Oxidation of isophorone by various fungi was examined. Aspergillus niger oxidized isophorone to 4-hydroxyisophorone, 3-hydroxymethyl-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one and 5-hydroxymethyl-3,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one. 4-Oxoisophorone obtained by chromic acid oxidation of 4-hydroxyisophorone was transformed to 2,3,5-trimethyl-p-benzoquinone by acid treatment.

  • The effects of diterpene acids (i. e. pimaradienoic acid, kaurenoic acid, hydroxy cembratrienoic acid and dihydroxycembratetraenoic acid) on malondialdehyde generation by rat platelets in response to thrombin were studied. All the compounds inhibited the generation of MDA.

  • Effects of total ginseng saponin, 20-S-protopanaxadiol saponin, 20-S-protopanaxatriol saponin and playcodon saponin on the osmotic behavior of liposomes were investigated by optical measurement. These saponins showed different activities on liposomal membrane, and cholesterol in liposomes was an important factor to this variation of saponin activities.

  • From the seeds of Zizyphus vulgaris var. spinosus, aporphine alkaloids : nuciferine, N-methylasimilobine, nornuciferine, norisocorydine, caaverine and tetrahydro benzylisoquinoline alkaloid : (+) coclaurine were isolated and identified. Zyzyphusine, a new quaternary aporphinium alkaloid form butanol soluble fraction was isolated and characterized by spectral data.

  • In the course of continous work on tubers of Gastrodia elata, a new constituent, 4, 4$^{I}$-dihydroxybenzyl sulfoxide was isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction prepared from the methanol extract. The structure of the compound was identified from the elemental analytical and spectroscopic data in comparison with those of non-substituted benzyl sulfoxide.e.
