Daily Travel Pattern using Public Transport Mode in Seoul:An Analysis of a Multi-Dimensional Motif Search (핵심정보배열 추출에 의한 서울시 대중교통 통행패턴 분석)

  • Transportation policy to facilitate the public mode use is of the foremost importance to the local governments of Metropolitan Seoul, regarding the economic and environmental consequences of the increasing use of car. Understanding the travel behaviour is essential to the establishment of proper policy to guide more people to the use of public modes instead of private. The paper reports a result of sequential analysis of individual travel behaviour in Metropolitan Seoul, using a multi-dimensional motif search technique applied to Smart Card data that integrates individuals' different public mode uses. Groups of travel patterns with similar sequential information identified distinctive travel behaviour between Seoul north and south and between metro and bus uses. Travel patterns are more bounded within north Seoul and south Seoul respectively than crossing Han River between north and south. Within north and south, travel patterns visiting northern CBD and southern CBD, respectively, as well as their local neighbour in north and south, often use metro and metro-local bus combination, while travel patterns visiting only the north and south locals without CBDs more use only the local bus line and even only the areal bus line.

  • Maximum speed of the train could not exceed over 160km/h with R-bar system in the underground type tunnel structure. By the research to overcome this speed limit, maximum speed has reached up to 200~250km/h recently by new R-bar system. It is under discussion to construct Metro Express Line between Gyonggido and Seoul which requires maximum speed 180km/h~230km/h. New R-bar is an optimal system to achieve the speed improvement in this line. This study shows application of the high speed R-bar system in the underground tunnel section.

  • Recently, ubiquitous sensor network forms the self-organization network, and transfers the information among sensor nodes that have computing technology ability. In this paper, we design and implement U-IT system for monitoring the safety of metro railway and underground shopping malls. For this, we implement sensor nodes to support IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication standard using low power. Also we implement USN gateway node system to transmit the collected data from sensor nodes to database server over CDMA cellular network.

  • The automatic/driverless operation which are great important techniques in metro railway are required to increase higher safety, greater reliability, and transport capacity. To satisfy such demands, we must have the system design and testing technique for the railway system operation. These techniques are related to the onboard train control and communication systems which include TCMS(Train Control and Monitoring System), ATO(Automatic Train Operation), ATC(Automatic Train Control), and TWC(Train to Wayside Communication). These sub-systems must be interfacing with not only each others but also the signal system on the ground. We tested the train control system on Test line that has been developed on the basis of the standardized type EMU for korea railway systems. This test line which is located in Sangju, have been constructed for testing 7 & 8 line of Seoul Metro railway.

  • Seoul Metro has been continuously growing after its foundation on August 15, 1974 and is currently acting the leading role in the city transportation which is now used by 4,130 thousand people (as of early 2011) on a daily average. The number of the electric rail cars also increased significantly from 60 cars at the time of foundation to 1,954. And the types of the cars also started and operated with the rheostatic control cars in the 70s to the chopper control cars in the 80s and VVVF control cars in the 90s. But the control devices of the driver's cabs haven't been accustomed to the drivers because of it's diversity. Therefore, This study carried out the survey for the preferences of control devices from the incumbent drivers at Seoul Metro. And we analyzed it and suggest a method for standardization of it's locating and naming the major control devices in the driver's cab as the consideration of their preference for it's efficiency, safety, and convenience.

  • Seoul Metro railway facilities' inspection and maintenance tasks cause failure analysis, but if there is trouble the diverse cause investigation and the systematic analysis and management among broken facilities, related facilities and components fell short and the conditions are different. And, excess and insufficiency, under inspection and maintenance, is being raised regardless of the introduction year and the operating environment including the number of use by applying the same facilities in the uniform inspection cycle. In this study, we will analysis systematically facility system information, failures, operational status, performance, fault and maintenance information resulting from the maintenance management of railway facilities and derive the relationship between associated equipment and its components. In addition, optimizing the inspection and the maintenance cycles of railway facilities, we will improve the reliability of operation. Considering the probability of risk, it is possible to predict the occurrence of accidents or faults and to minimize the frequency of breakdown by pre-inspection maintenance. Finally, This paper is to introduce the content of constructing the Seoul Metro RCM-based failure analysis system for railway facilities to support the optimal continuance of operation status of equipments and the securement of the safe operation of vehicles.
