  • The indirect rotor position detection method using terminal voltage of brushless DC motor (BLDCM) requires simple control circuit, and has wide speed range of sensorless operation. However, because the substantial phase difference exists between real back emf and terminal voltage, the existing indirect detection method using analog filter which is affected by frequency, speed, and load sensitively cannot be synchronized with current, in the end, it advances or delays. This paper presents new analog filter circuit design for rotor position estimation in order to solve the problem, and proposes novel sensorless operation method which is stable even in high speed range and not influenced by parameters with analysis on phase difference by load and speed. Moreover, the appropriateness of the proposed sensorless drive in this paper is verified and analyzed by experimentation.

  • This paper proposes a restarting method for extended electromotive force (EEMF)-based sensorless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems. The sensorless PMSM drive systems generally estimate the rotor speed and angle based on EEMF. However, if the inverter is stopped while the PMSM is rotating, the initial rotor speed and angle are required for restart. Therefore, the proposed restarting method estimates the initial rotor speed and angle using the short-circuit current generated by applying zero voltage vector from the inverter. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper investigates the problem of the speed estimation of conventional speed sensorless stator flux-oriented induction machine drive in the field weakening region and proposes a new speed estimation scheme to estimate speed exactly in transients in the field weakening region. The error included in the estimated rotor speed is removed by not a low pass filter but Kalman filter.

  • The rotor position of a PM synchronous motor is commonly estimated from the mathematical model for the sensorless control without rotor position sensors. For the magnet flux-based rotor position estimator in the stationary reference frame, the magnet flux estimator for estimating rotor position and speed includes the integrator. The integrator in the magnet flux estimator may accumulate the offset of the current sensors and the voltage drift. This continuous accumulation of the offset may cause the drift and overflow in the integrator, such that the estimated rotor position and speed may fail to track the real rotor position and speed. In this paper, the magnet flux estimator without integrator is proposed to avoid overflow in the integrator. The proposed rotor position and speed estimator based on magnet flux estimator are verified through simulation and experiment.

  • For the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive to operate above the base speed in the constant horsepower region, the field weakening control is applied. However, the field weakening control was not almost applied to sensorless control of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor. In this paper, the field weakening control is applied to the sensorless control of IPMSM based on the fuzzy controller. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified by the experimental results.

  • For the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive to operate above the base speed in the constant horsepower region, field weakening control is applied.   • This paper presents a feasible development on a highly accurate quick response adjustable speed drive implementation fur general purpose induction motor which operates on the basis of sensorless slip frequency type vector controlled sine-wave PWM inverter with an automatic tuning machine parameter estimation schemes. In the first place, the sensorless vector control theory on the three-phase voltage source-fed inverter induction motor drive system is developed in slip frequency based vector control principle. In particular, the essential procedure and considerations to measure and estimate the exact stator and rotor circuit parameters of general purpose induction motor are discussed under its operating conditions. The speed regulation characteristics of induction motor operated by the three-phase voltage-fed type current controlled PWM inverter using IGBT's is illustrated and evaluated fur machine parameter variations under the actual conditions of low frequency and high frequency operations for the load torque. In the second place, the variable speed induction motor drive system, employing sensorless vector control scheme which is based on three -phase high frequency carrier PWM inverter with automatic toning estimation schemes of the temperature -dependent and -independent machine circuit parameters, is practically implemented using DSP-based controller. Finally, the dynamic speed response performances for largely changed load torque disturbances as well as steady state speed vs. torque characteristics of this induction motor control implementation are illustrated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

Sensorless Control of High-speed Type PMSM in Wide Speed Range using an Iterative Adaptive Flux Observer (반복 적응자속관측기를 이용한 초고속 영구자석형 동기전동기의 전영역 센서리스 제어)

  • This paper proposes an enhanced algorithm for sensorless control of 45,000rpm/22kw type Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with air-foil bearing. The proposed algorithm is based on iterative adaptive flux observer for sensorless control of the motor in wide speed range by on-line estimating angle and velocity of rotor. Simulation error between actual and estimated angle of rotor is analyzed to enhance characteristics of frequency response of conventional adaptive flux observer, which results in stable response in wide range of speed. Using the iteration number for stable phase-delay characteristics, the observer enhances the dynamic characteristics of the observer within current control period. The experiment results show the reliable performance of the proposed algorithm through starting to high speed operating range.

  • The paper is proposed artificial neural network(ANN) sensorless control of induction motor drive with fuzzy learning control-fuzzy neural network(FLC-FNN) controller. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also this paper is proposed. speed control of induction motor using FLC-FNN and estimation of speed using ANN controller. The back Propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The proposed control algorithm is applied to induction motor drive system controlled FLC-FNN and ANN controller, Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the FLC-FNN and ANN controller.

Analysis and Improvement of Low-Frequency Control of Speed-Sensorless AC Drive Fed by Three-Level Inverter

  • In induction machine drive without a speed sensor, the estimation of the motor flux and speed often becomes deteriorated at low speeds with low back EMF. Our analysis shows that, in addition to the state resistance variation, the estimated value of field orientation angle is often corrupted by accumulative errors from the integration of voltage variables at motor terminals that have low signal/noise ratio at low frequencies. A repetitive loop path of integration in the feedback can amplify this type of error, thus speeding up the degradation process. The control system runs into information starvation due to the loss of correct field orientation. The machine's spiral vectors are controlled only in a reduced dimension in this situation. A novel control scheme is developed to improve the control performance of motor's current, torque and speed at low frequencies. The scheme gains a full-dimensional vector control and is less sensitive to the combined effect of the error sources at the low frequencies. Experimental tests demonstrate promising performances are achievable even below 0.5 Hz.
