An outlier detection method using mixed prediction model has been described in this paper. The mixed prediction model consists of time-series model and regression model. The parameter estimation of the prediction model was performed using supervised learning and a genetic algorithm is adopted for a learning method. The experiments were performed in artificial and real data set. The prediction performance is compared with the existing prediction methods using artificial data. Outlier detection is conducted using the real sensor measurements in a dam. The validity of the proposed method was shown in the experiments.

With the application of wireless sensor networks in the fields of ecological observation, defense military, architecture and urban management etc., the security problem is becoming more and more serious. Characteristics and constraint conditions of wireless sensor networks such as computing power, storage space and battery have brought huge challenges to protection research. Inspired by the danger theory in biological immune system, this paper proposes an intrusion detection model for wireless sensor networks. The model abstracts expressions of antigens and antibodies in wireless sensor networks, defines meanings and functions of danger signals and danger areas, and expounds the process of intrusion detection based on the danger theory. The model realizes the distributed deployment, and there is no need to arrange an instance at each sensor node. In addition, sensor nodes trigger danger signals according to their own environmental information, and do not need to communicate with other nodes, which saves resources. When danger is perceived, the model acquires the global knowledge through node cooperation, and can perform more accurate real-time intrusion detection. In this paper, the performance of the model is analyzed including complexity and efficiency, and experimental results show that the model has good detection performance and reduces energy consumption.

In this paper, a robust fault detection method for varying temperature based on fuzzy model is proposed. To develop a robust force estimation model, it needs temperature information because the output of force sensor is affected by a temperature variation. The nonlinear dynamic system, such as the parking force of the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) system is necessary to have a higher order equation model. But, because of the calculation time, the higher order equation model is hard to be used in real application. In case of the lower order equation model, the result is not as accurate as acceptable. To solve this problem, the robust fuzzy model-based fault detection is developed. A proposed fault detection method for varying temperature is verified by HILS (hardware in the loop simulation).

EMB (Electro-Mechanical Brake) systems can provide improved braking and stability functions such as ABS, EBD, TCS, ESC, BA, ACC, etc. For the implementation of the EMB systems, reliable and robust fault detection algorithm is required. In this study, a model-based fault detection algorithm is designed based on the analytical redundancy method in order to monitor current and force sensor faults in EMB systems. A state-space model for the EMB is derived including faulty signals. The fault diagnosis algorithm is constructed using the analytical redundancy method. Observer is designed for the EMB and the fault detectability condition is examined based on the residual analysis. The performance of the proposed model-based fault detection algorithm is verified in simulations. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated in various faulty cases.

In this paper, a robust model based fault detection for varying temperature is proposed, To develop a robust force estimation model, it needs temperature information because the force sensor's output is affected by a temperature variation. If an EPB system does not include a temperature sensor, the model has a much larger error than an EPB system with a built-in temperature sensor. Therefore, the temperature is estimated by using Ohm's law. The force model is applied with a motor current, battery voltage, operation mode, and the estimated temperature to detect a force sensor's abnormal signal fault. The residual is calculated by comparing the value of the measured force and the estimated force. Fault information is collected by using the output of the evaluated residual with the adaptive thresholds. A proposed robust model based fault detection for varying temperature was verified by HILS (Hardware in the Loop Simulation).
The structural health monitoring (SHM) benchmark study on optimal sensor placement problem for the instrumented Canton Tower has been launched. It follows the success of the modal identification and model updating for the Canton Tower in the previous benchmark study, and focuses on the optimal placement of vibration sensors (accelerometers) in the interest of bettering the SHM system. In this paper, the sensor placement problem for the Canton Tower and the benchmark model for this study are first detailed. Then an information entropy based sensor placement method with the purpose of damage detection is proposed and applied to the benchmark problem. The procedure that will be implemented for structural damage detection using the data obtained from the optimal sensor placement strategy is introduced and the information on structural damage is specified. The information entropy based method is applied to measure the uncertainties throughout the damage detection process with the use of the obtained data. Accordingly, a multi-objective optimal problem in terms of sensor placement is formulated. The optimal solution is determined as the one that provides equally most informative data for all objectives, and thus the data obtained is most informative for structural damage detection. To validate the effectiveness of the optimally determined sensor placement, damage detection is performed on different damage scenarios of the benchmark model using the noise-free and noise-corrupted measured information, respectively. The results show that in comparison with the existing in-service sensor deployment on the structure, the optimally determined one is capable of further enhancing the capability of damage detection.
Limited, noisy data in vibration testing is a hindrance to the development of structural damage detection. This paper presents a method for optimizing sensor placement and performing damage detection using finite element model updating. Sensitivity analysis of the modal flexibility matrix determines the optimal sensor locations for collecting information on structural damage. The optimal sensor locations require the instrumentation of only a limited number of degrees of freedom. Using noisy modal data from only these limited sensor locations, a method based on model updating and changes in the flexibility matrix successfully determines the location and severity of the imposed damage in numerical simulations. In addition, a steel cantilever beam experiment performed in the laboratory that considered the effects of model error and noise tested the validity of the method. The results show that the proposed approach effectively and robustly detects structural damage using limited, optimal sensor information.
Sensor faults in nuclear power plant instrumentation have the potential to spread negative effects from wrong signals that can cause an accident misdiagnosis by plant operators. To detect sensor faults and make accurate accident diagnoses, prior studies have developed a supervised learning-based sensor fault detection model and an accident diagnosis model with faulty sensor isolation. Even though the developed neural network models demonstrated satisfactory performance, their diagnosis performance should be reevaluated considering real-time connection. When operating in real-time, the diagnosis model is expected to indiscriminately accept fault data before receiving delayed fault information transferred from the previous fault detection model. The uncertainty of neural networks can also have a significant impact following the sensor fault features. In the present work, a pilot study was conducted to connect two models and observe actual outcomes from a real-time application with an integrated system. While the initial results showed an overall successful diagnosis, some issues were observed. To recover the diagnosis performance degradations, additive logics were applied to minimize the diagnosis failures that were not observed in the previous validations of the separate models. The results of a case study were then analyzed in terms of the real-time diagnosis outputs that plant operators would actually face in an emergency situation.

A sensor fault detection scheme(SFDS) for a class of nonlinear systems that can be represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is proposed. Basically, the SFDS may be considered as a multiple observer scheme(MOS) in which the bank of state observers and the detection & isolation logic are included. However, the proposed scheme has two great differences from the conventional MOSs. First, the proposed scheme includes fuzzy fault detection observers(FFDO) that are constructed based on the T-S fuzzy model that provides very good approximation to nonlinear dynamic systems. Secondly, unlike the conventional MOS, the FFDOS are driven not parallelly but sequentially according to the predetermined sequence to avoid the massive computational burden, which is known to be the biggest obstacle to the practical application of the multiple observer based FDI schemes. During the operating time, each FFDO generates the residuals carrying the information of a specified fault, and the corresponding fault detection logic unit performs the logical operations to detect and isolate the fault of interest. The proposed scheme is applied to an inverted pendulum control system for sensor fault detection/isolation. Simulation study shows the practical feasibility of the proposed scheme.

A model based SOC estimation scheme using parameter identification is described and applied to a Lithium-ion battery module that can be installed in electric vehicles. Simulation studies are performed to verify the effect of sensor faults on the SOC estimation results for terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor. The sensor faults should be detected and isolated as soon as possible because the SOC estimation error due to any sensor fault seriously affects the overall performance of the BMS. A new fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme by which the fault of terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor can be detected and isolated is proposed to improve the reliability of the BMS. The proposed FDI scheme utilizes the parameter estimation of an input-output model and two fuzzy predictors for residual generation; one for terminal voltage and the other for load current. Recently developed dual polarization(DP) model is taken to develope and evaluate the performance of the proposed FDI scheme. Simulation results show the practical feasibility of the proposed FDI scheme.
