  • We propose a new expression of the near-field gain correction to calculate the on-axis far-field gain from the onaxis near-field gain for a directive antenna. The new expression is represented by transversal vectorial transmitting characteristics of two antennas that are measured by planar near-field equipment. Due to the advantages of the photonic sensor, the utilization of the new expression realizes the measurements of the on-axis far-field gains for two kinds of double ridged waveguide horn antennas within 0.1 dB deviation from 1 GHz to 6 GHz without calibrating the photonic sensor system.

  • For the measurement of time-varying electric fields and related quantities, a field sensor should be sensitive to the field to be measured, and also designed having an accurate transfer function. In this paper, a theoretical model which adequately describes the operation principle and design of the sensor is presented. A calibration and/or correction technique of the sensor is also studied which enables a precise determination of the response of the sensor to an electric field. As a result, the developed electric field sensor and measuring system are known to be accurate within a bandwidth from a few Hz to 200 MHz. It is found that the sensor can be used directly in the measurement of very fast transient voltages and time-varying electric fields occurring during disconnector operations in a gas-insulated substation. It may be useful also for the study on the electromagnetic environmental parameters.

  • This paper describes design and construction results of the measurement system developed on the purpose of measuring properties of AC magnetic field sensors used in the weapon system. The system for measuring the properties of AC magnetic field sensors consist of 3-axis helmholtz coil, signal generator, signal amplifier, sensor data acquisition unit and AC magnetic field sensor property measurement & analysis equipment including the operating software. By using this system, we can measure various properties of AC magnetic field sensor such as sensitivity, linearity and dynamic response in the frequency from 1 Hz to 10 kHz. Finally we also verified its performance by measuring the property of a MAG 639, standard magnetic field sensor of bartington instruments, with the developed measurement system.

  • This paper is about the design of 3-axis magnetic sensor module which detects parking and moving vehicle. For the sensor module, MR Sensor from Honeywell of which maximum measurement range is ${\pm}2$[G] is used. It also consisted of amplifier and sensor filter and fabricated $30{\times}50$[mm] PCB. Fabricated sensor module produced helmholtz coil of which the length is 1.2[m] of 3-axis to know the performance. It installed sensor module at the center and measured the detected magnetic field. In result, 3-axis were detected as 0.2~0.3[mG] and the drift of the fluctuation of magnetic field was stabilized at 0.03[mG] unit. For the performance evaluation of the vehicle detection, after the entry and parking of the vehicle, variation of magnetic field was measured as 0.323~0.695[G] which the average 0.5[G] of the earth magnetic field was the center and the range of variation was confirmed as 0.37[G]. Therefore, the designed magnetic sensor can be used as the vehicle detection sensor module.

  • To ensure high quality data being used for data mining or feature extraction in the bridge structural health monitoring (SHM) system, a practical sensor fault diagnosis methodology has been developed based on the similarity of symmetric structure responses. First, the similarity of symmetric response is discussed using field monitoring data from different sensor types. All the sensors are initially paired and sensor faults are then detected pair by pair to achieve the multi-fault diagnosis of sensor systems. To resolve the coupling response issue between structural damage and sensor fault, the similarity for the target zone (where the studied sensor pair is located) is assessed to determine whether the localized structural damage or sensor fault results in the dissimilarity of the studied sensor pair. If the suspected sensor pair is detected with at least one sensor being faulty, field test could be implemented to support the regression analysis based on the monitoring and field test data for sensor fault isolation and reconstruction. Finally, a case study is adopted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. As a result, Dasarathy's information fusion model is adopted for multi-sensor information fusion. Euclidean distance is selected as the index to assess the similarity. In conclusion, the proposed method is practical for actual engineering which ensures the reliability of further analysis based on monitoring data.

  • Inter-turn short circuits can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. The Inter-turn short circuits sensor for synchronous generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a shorted- turn test was performed at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator and stim turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of Inter-turn short circuits for synchronous generator's field winding.

  • It is very difficult and dangerous to measure PD(Partial Discharges) from high voltage equipments in outdoor situation. But that is very important thing for preventing them from more serious accident by defects made by insulating degradation. This paper provides useful method to detect PD signals easily without any dangerous situation. Electric field sensor by the principle of capacitor can detect PD signals without direct connection between sensor and high voltage equipment and has very wide frequency range suitable for noise rejection. Electric field sensor and related circuit for processing PD signal show good performance as a PD sensor when it is applied to simulated high power equipment generating PD pulses.

  • The relationship between electrical properties of superconductor and externally allied magnetic field was studied to develop a magnetic field polarity sensor. The behavior was related to the magnetic flux trapped in the superconductor, which penetrates through the material by the external magnetic field. Electrical characteristics of the superconductor with trapped magnetic flux were extremely sensitive ta the external magnetic field and showed different responses depending on the direction of the magnetic field. Considering the observed properties of the superconductor with trapped magnetic flux, a magnetic sensor was fabricated to detect simultaneously both the intensity and the direction of the magnetic field.

  • A time-coded giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) magnetic field sensor was investigated and designed. The successfully constructed and tested laboratory model demonstrated a sensitivity of 5 ${\mu}s/{\mu}T$ in the field range of $\pm200{\mu}T$. The sensing element in the form of an amorphous thin wire, 100 mm in diameter $\times50$ mm long, was fit into a small field modulation coil of 60 mm length. At a magnetic field modulation in the range of hundreds of Hz, the change in time interval of two adjacent GMI voltage peaks was linearly related to the external magnetic field to be measured. This mechanism improved the sensor linearity to better than 0.3% in the measuring range of $\pm200{\mu}T$.

  • A magnetic field sensor is fabricated with superconducting ceramics of Y-Ba-Cu-O system. The prepared material shows the superconductivity at about 95K. The sensor at liquid nitrogen temperature shows the increase in electrical resistance by applying magnetic field. Actually, the voltage drop across the sensor is changed from zero to a value. more than $100{\mu}V$ by the applied magnetic field. The change in electrical resistance depends on magnetic field. The sensitivity of this sensor is 2.9 ohm/T. The sensing limit is about $1.5{\times}10^{-5}T(=1.5{\times}10^{-1}G)$. The increase in electrical resistance by the magnetic field is ascribed to a modification of the Josephson junctions due to the penetrating magnetic flux into the superconducting material.
