A fully CMOS-integrated carbon nanotube (CNT) sensor array is proposed. After the sensor chip is fabricated in commercial CMOS process, the CNTs network is formed on the top of the fabricated sensor chip through the room-temperature post-CMOS processes. When the resistance of the CNT is changed by the chemical reaction, the read-out circuit in the chip measures the charging time of the $R_{CNT}$-Capacitor. finally the information of measured frequency is converted to a digital code. The CMOS sensor chip was fabricated by standard 0.18um technology and the size of the $8{\times}8$ sensor array is $2mm{\times}2mn$. We have carried out an experiment detecting the biochemical material, glutamate, using this sensor chip. From the experiment the CMOS sensor chip shows the feasibility of sensor for the simultaneous detection of the various target materials.
Ultrasonic sensors are widely used in mobile robot applications to recognize external environments, because they are cheap, easy to use, and robust under varying lighting conditions. However, the recognition of objects using a ultrasonic sensor is not so easy due to its characteristics such as narrow beam width and no reflected signal from a inclined object. As one of the alternatives to resolve these problems, use of multiple sensors has been studied. A sequential driving system needs a long measurement time and does not take advantage of multiple sensors. Simultaneous and pulse coding driving system of ultrasonic sensor array cannot measure short distance as the length of the code becomes long. This problem can be resolved by multi-frequency driving of ultrasonic sensors, which allows multi-sensors to be fired simultaneously and adjacent objects to be distinguished. Accordingly, this paper presents a simultaneous and multi-frequency driving system for an ultrasonic sensor array for object recognition. The proposed system is designed and implemented using a DSP and FPGA. A micro-controller board is made using a DSP, Polaroid 6500 ranging modules are modified for firing the multi-frequency signals, and a 5-channel frequency modulated signal generating board is made using a FPGA. To verify the proposed method, experiments were conducted in an environment with overlapping signals, and the flight distances for each sensor were obtained from filtering of the received overlapping signals and calculation of the time-of-flights.
The Minimum-Norm Least-Square(MNLS) approach based on lead field theory is an useful method to find an unique inverse solution for the measured magnetic field. The lead field depends on head geometry and location of sources and sensors. So, optimization of sensor array location is important issue for MNLS estimation. In this paper, we present an investigation for the optimization of sensor array location in computer simulation.

This Paper deals with a design, making a prtotype and test methods of Real-time towed Line Array Sensor Data processing board for fast data communication and long range data transmission with SFM(Serial FPDP Module) through Optic-fiber channel. Towed line array sensors are installed in Frigate and the each LAS A, B, C group data from LAS is packed a previously agreed protocol and transmitted to the signal processing unit. Considering the limited space of VME 6U size, LAS Data processing board is designed with MPC8265 PowerPC Controller of Freescale for main system control and Altera's CycloneIII FPGA for sensor data packing, self-test simulation data generation, S/W FIFO et cetera. LAS Data processing board have VxWorks, the RTOS(Real Time Operating System) that present many device drivers, peripheral control libraries on board for real-time data processing.
This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.
Optimizing the performance of a composite sensor array is necessary when the number of sensors to choose from is large. In this paper, we present a chemical sensors array optimization method using Wilks Lamda algorithm applicable a device to detect low concentration of alcohol from driver's exhale breath for interlocking engine ignition preventing drink-driving. More than 20 chemical sensors fabricated different synthetic stuffs and heater temperatures by collaborators were nominated, 5 sensors were selected for optimal sensors array using the method, and alcohol samples were well discriminated from the interference gases inside the vehicle. It has been confirmed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA).
We studied the improved detecting method on Partial Discharge occurred in EHV power cable. In this field, we usually applied the several sensor for partial discharge. This is metal foil employed with the capacity foil-sensor. We detected the partial discharge through regularly array standard foil-sensor for the better improvement of existed foil-sensor in this research. This test is progressed in real EHV liveline, we analyzed that compare existed foil-sensor to detect character of FSA(Foil Sensor Array) for this test. From this result, detective character of fabricated FSA showed better result than existed foil-sensor.
In this paper the tactile sensor system based on the bending loss of optical fiber sensor is presented. The sensor array was designed with fabric structure. The optical measuring system was composed of LED for light source and CCD camera for the signal light detector. Performance of this tactile sensor system was evaluated in various environments and compared with Harmon's design criteria. The result shows that load range is 3 g$\sim$100 g, resolution is 1.5 g, hysteresis error is 1.5%. The response linearity is good and flexibility of sensor array is excellent.
In this paper, we propose a method to obtain a linear characteristic using soft computing for systems which have array sensors of nonlinear characteristics. Also a procedure utilizing the pattern information of array sensors without additional sensors is proposed to reduce disturbance effects. For a typical example, even a single CdS cell for CdS array has nonlinear characteristics. Overall linear characteristic for CdS array is obtained using fuzzy logic for each cell and overlapped portion. In addition, further improvement for linearization is obtained applying genetic algorithms for the parameters of membership functions. Also the effect of disturbing external light changes to the CdS array can be reduced without using any additional sensors for calibration. The proposed method based on fuzzy logic shows improvements for position measurements and disturbance reduction to external light changes due to the fuzziness of the shadow boundary as well as the inherent nonlinearity of the CdS array. This improvement is shown by applying the proposed method to the ball position measurements of a magnetic levitation system.
The use of a chemical sensor array can help discriminate between chemicals when comparing one sample with another. The ability to classify pattern characteristics from relatively small pieces of information has led to growing interest in methods of sensor recognition. A variety of pattern recognition algorithms, including the adaptive radial basis function network (RBFN), may be applicable to gas and/ or odor classification. In this paper, we provide a broad review of approaches for various types of gas and/or odor identification techniques based on RBFN and drift compensation techniques caused by sensor poisoning and aging.
