Climatic characteristic and changes of snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere, Eurasian, North America and the Tibet Plateau are studied based on data of the Northern Hemisphere snow cover area observed by Satellite remote sensing from 1966 to 2003. Meanwhile, the seasons' distribution charts of the Asian snow cover are made, they provide the climatic background of snow cover. In addition, the influences of snow cover on the climate, especially on the monsoon are analysed briefly, and some significance results are concluded.
We made a hazard map using GIS and remote sensing for he greatest inundation damage that happened for the 20th century. We calculated the land cover classification using Landsat from 1983 to 2000. We calculated it from a damage report and an aerial photo for a flood. We considered relation of both land cover classification and the damage. We expected the inundation damage in the future and made a hazard map.
Force/torque sensors are now providing widespread practical solutions to manufacturing problems, particularly in the area of automated assembly. The current state of the industry is discussed, including the evolution of transducer and controller design, and the trend of robot manufacturers to integrate force/torque sensors into their robot systems thereby greatly improving cycle time and simplifying the application development task for the end-user. Current and future application areas are discussed as well as the benefits of force/torque sensing.
Forest fire is a critical disaster that causes massive destruction of forest ecosystem and economic loss. Hence, accurate estimation of the burned area is important for evaluation of the degree of damage and for preparing baseline data for recovery. Since most of the area size damaged by wildfires in Korea is less than 1 ha, it is necessary to use satellite or drone images with a resolution of less than 10m for detecting the damage area. This paper aims to detect wildfire-damaged area from a Kompsat-3 image using the indices such as NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) and FBI (fire burn index) and to examine the classification characteristics according to the methods such as Otsu thresholding and ISODATA(iterative self-organizing data analysis technique). To mitigate the salt-and-pepper phenomenon of the pixel-based classification, a gaussian filter was applied to the images of NDVI and FBI. Otsu thresholding and ISODATA could distinguish the burned forest from normal forest appropriately, and the salt-and-pepper phenomenon at the boundaries of burned forest was reduced by the gaussian filter. The result from ISODATA with gaussian filter using NDVI was closest to the official record of damage area (56.9 ha) published by the Korea Forest Service. Unlike Otsu thresholding for binary classification, since the ISODATA categorizes the images into multiple classes such as(1)severely burned area, (2) moderately burned area, (3) mixture of burned and unburned areas, and (4) unburned area, the characteristics of the boundaries consisting of burned and normal forests can be better expressed. It is expected that our approach can be utilized for the high-resolution images obtained from other satellites and drones.

The study for detecting suspended sediment distribution in Lake Sihwa, which has a large surface area and coastal area, using remote sensing technique was carried out with development of satellite data collected since 1970. The research, however, analysis of spatial distribution and quantity, is not common in domestic study and useful algorithms have not been proposed. In this study, a suspended sediment algorithm was composed with in-situ data obtained in study area and remote sensing reflectance obtained in-water optical instrument, which has SeaWiFS wavelength bands. However, when the algorithm was applied to Landsat TM data, including an in-situ data set, and some problems arose. The composition of the algorithm which was structured with band difference and band ratio showed the correlation of $R^2$=0.7649 with concentration of suspended sediments. And, between calculated and observed concentration of suspended sediments there was a correlation of $R^2$=0.6959. However, remote sensing reflectance obtained from Landsat TM is not good for the estimation of concentration of suspended sediments, because of high concentration of chlorophyll and CDOM(colored dissolved organic matter).
In this study, DEMs (Digital elevation model) based on LIDAR, TanDEM-X and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) are used to analyze topographic change of Gomso tidal flat during a few years. DEM from LIDAR data was observed at 2011 by KHOA (Korean hydrographic and oceanographic agency) and DEM based on TanDEM-X data was generated at Lee and Ryu (2017). UAV data was observed at KM and KH area of Gomso tidal flat. KM area was surveyed at MAY and AUG 2019, and KH area was surveyed at APR 2018 and MAY 2019. During research period, 2011 to AUG 2019, elevation of KM area is decreased 0.24 m in average, and Chenier is retreat to landward about 130 m. In KH area, elevation is increased 0.16 m in average during research period, 2011 to MAY 2019. It is expected that multi-platform remotely sensed data can help to study accurate topographic change of tidal flat.

The domestic Remote Sensing field uses mainly Landsat TM image that is used to the monitoring of the wide area. In this study, it is analyzed the land cover change of rural and urban area by time series using satellite images and is proposed the vision for a urban balanced development. It execute an analysis for urban change which is a fundamental data of city planning through the integration of the spatial analysis technique of GIS and Remote Sensing using satellite data
The main objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of newly available high spatial resolution satellite images, in evaluating vegetation environment of the urban areas. In doing so, we have used satellite images from QuickBird and selected some areas of Fukuoka City, Kyushu Japan, as study area. The results of the study revealed that, high resolution images are more effective in close monitoring of the vegetation status and green plants should be planted in open spaces and roofs of urban areas to increase vegetation, which will in turn act as a remedy to reduce heat island phenomenon.
Vector-borne diseases have been the most important worldwide health problem for many years and still represent a constant and serious risk to a large part of the world’s population. GIS and RS is used to evaluate and model the relationships between environmental factors/indicators and the incidences of viral diseases. The aim of the study is to identify the risk factors in Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever DHF) from the highest prevalence area and lowest prevalence area in Sukhothai province, Thailand using statistical, spatial and GIS Modeling. Results obtained in the study of the Dengue show that it is now possible to identify and localize precisely environmental indicators and factors of viral diseases.
An efficient method for the unsupervised classification of high resolution imagery is suggested in this paper. It employs pixel-linking and merging based on the adjacency graph. The proposed algorithm uses the neighbor lines of 8 directions to include information in spatial proximity. Two approaches are suggested to employ neighbor lines in the linking. One is to compute the dissimilarity measure for the pixel-linking using information from the best lines with the smallest non. The other is to select the best directions for the dissimilarity measure by comparing the non-homogeneity of each line in the same direction of two adjacent pixels. The resultant partition of pixel-linking is segmented and classified by the merging based on the regional and spectral adjacency graphs. This study performed extensive experiments using simulation data and a real high resolution data of IKONOS. The experimental results show that the new approach proposed in this study is quite effective to provide segments of high quality for object-based analysis and proper land-cover map for high resolution imagery of urban area.
