  • The automatic equipment for three-dimensional electron microscopy (3DEM) can acquire serial sections of a large sample in a relatively short time, and is especially suitable for the connectomics, which is a field related to understanding the brain structure as a whole. As many results obtained through 3DEM using automatic serial sections have been published in the field of brain research, many researchers continue to apply this technique to various samples. We reviewed the equipment for automatic serial sectioning, the block preparation method, the limitations of 3DEM, and future directions.

  • Purpose: Due to the change of demography, the ratio of senior drivers has increased and the transition to a super-aged society is expected to make more seniors drive in the future. Method: In this research, we analyzed medical characteristics of the driver's age-specific decline in body function and saw that both the function of the physical as well as mental capacities deteriorates as people age. Among them, various functions are precipitously weakened after reaching 70, implying that those over the age of 70 are classified as seniors in a medical sense. In this context, we also could identify that based on such age criteria, various safety policies for senior drivers should be developed and set up in Korea. Result: We could find a steep fall in the physical function of body after reaching 70 from the chronological change of cognitive function and judgment ability. In particular, it is revealed that the driving license institution and aptitude test for drivers over 70 should be thoroughly examined, as physical functions necessary for driving such as eyesight and hearing ability is not strong enough in many drivers over 70. Conclusion: Focusing on the physical capacity to drive, we tried to find the hazardous age bracket of senior drivers which might influence driving behaviors. Going forward, we expect this work would help to understand the policies for senior drivers and drivers' physical differences.

  • With the continuous rise of elderly population and rapid progression of aging in our society, greater emphasis is placed on the importance of local seniors welfare centers as representative service space that meets the diverse needs of local residents. In addition, there is a growing tendency among current users to seek high-quality service as their educational level, economic ability and lifestyle have changed for the better compared to past generations. Accordingly, this study analyzed the satisfaction of senior welfare centers according to life-style type of the elderly, using a lifestyle measurement tool which incorporates indicators of gerontographics. A survey was conducted with users of seven senior welfare centers located in Seoul. Analysis results are as follows: First, four types of lifestyle were derived through cluster analysis; independent activity type, protective activity type, active challenge type, and passive challenge type. Second, it was found that the overall satisfaction of seniors welfare centers by the life-style of the elderly is highest for the protective activity type followed by the passive challenge type, the active challenge type, and the independent activity type. Third, upon examining the effect of spatial characteristics of welfare centers on the satisfaction of elderly users by type of lifestyle, it was found that the independent activity type and the passive challenge type users are most influenced by intimacy, the protective activity type users by comfort, and the active challenge type users by convenience.

  • This study surveyed the variables associated with tailored user interfaces (UIs) to identify and apply to. healthcare web services. A total of 308 elderly people of age 50 and above), living in Incheon, South Korea, were surveyed through one-on-one interviews. The survey results of these 300 subjects were analyzed and used to demonstrate that younger subjects higher EQ-5D and TAM indices. The technology acceptance model showed the greatest effect on the perceived need for web services.

To achieve this study used final analysis with 470 questionnaires which did a questionnaire survey after gathering purposeful sampling method of 500 person who were visiting on Senior Club and Senior Welfare Center. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS statistical program. The methods of analysis were frequency, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, characteristic factors such as the family relation, health and economic of the elderly have significant impacts on their life satisfaction. Secondly, it was seen that social support regulated the effects of family relation and economic on characteristic factors. The implications of this study are, above all, to build a human network for training, education and social support for career development while participating in the labor market. • The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of senior welfare centers and the cause of differences among senior welfare centers in that regard, and to investigate influential factors for the differences in efficiency and the size of the influence of the factors. What methods would be effective at assessing the efficiency of senior welfare centers by taking into account their circumstances was reviewed, andpost-hoc analyses were made by using data envelopment analysis(DEA) and DAE/AP Modified prosthetic which were useful tools to evaluate relative efficiency. After 20 senior welfare centers located in Gyeonggi-do were selected, their yearly operating data of 2009 were utilized. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of senior welfare centers. The evaluation data released by the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation were analyzed by DEA, which is one of nonparametric statistics, and it was possible to obtain significant results on the regional operating efficiency of social welfare centers in 14 metropolitan cities and provinces, the causes and degree of their inefficiency and what areas one could refer to. As the data for the counties were utilized in this study, it's not quite possible to produce accurate results on the relative efficiency of senior welfare centers, but this study could be said to be of significance in that it suggested how to evaluate the overall operating efficiency of senior welfare centers in the counties involving the degree of their operating inefficiency, what improvements should be made and what reference groups there might be and provided information on the usefulness of the DEA model.

  • Two receiving systems were established at the Asian Center for Research on Remote Sensing (ACRoRS) to receive remote sensing data from NOAA AVHRR and Terra/Aqua MODIS sensors in October 1997 and May 2001, respectively. The data, which has been received in the research center, are very important to support and promote the remote sensing research activities for global environmental issues in Asia. Since the day of the establishment, many research and applications, which used these data, have been conducted. The data sets have been provided to researchers and users in many countries in the region to conduct research, to strengthen the research collaboration and education.
