During the last ten years, the need has been increase for reducing maintenance cost for aged equipments are ensuring safety, efficiency and profitability of petrochemical and refinery plants. American Petroleum institute(API) developed a code, API 581 for proposing standard procedures of risk based inspection. Even though the API 581 code covers general RBI procedures, there must be some limitations. In this study, a semi-quantitative assessment algorithm for RBI based on the API 581 code was reconstructed for developing an RBI software. The user-friendly realRBI software is developed with a module for evaluation semi-quantitative risk category using the potential consequence factor and the likelihood factor. Also, inspection planning module for inspection time and inspection method for equipments are included.

Connections are usually designed either as pinned usually associated with simple construction or rigid normally is associated with continuous construction. However, the actual behaviour falls in between these two extreme cases. The use of partial strength or semi-rigid connections has been encouraged by Euro-code 3 and studies on semi-continuous construction have shown substantial savings in steel weight of the overall construction. Composite connections are proposed in this paper as partial or full strength connections. Standardized connection tables are developed based on checking on all possible failure modes as suggested by "component method" for beam-to-column composite connection on major axis. Four experimental tests were carried out to validate the proposed standardised connection table. The test results showed good agreement between experimental and theoretical values with the ratio in the range between 1.06 to 1.50. All tested specimens of the composite connections showed ductile type of failure with the formation of cracks occurred on concrete slab at maximum load. No failure occurred on the Trapezoidal Web Profiled Steel Section as beam and on the British Section as column.

Continuous casting process has been adopted increasingly in recent years to save both energy and labor. It has experienced a rapid development in the production of semi-finished steel products, rep lacing the conventional route of ingot casting and rolling. In order to achieve this merit, however, more studies about the mechanism between roll and slab are needed. In this paper, a dynamic bulging in steel cast slabs was simulated by considering the solidification and heat transfer. This study is to prevent internal cracks of a slab in a bending and unbending zone. The value of moving strand shell bulging between two supporting rollers under the ferrostatic pressure and slab-self weight has been calculated in terms of creep and elasto-plasticity. The strain and strain rate distributions in solidified shell undergoing a series of bulging are calculated with working boundary conditions.
A semi analytical method is employed to analyze free vibration characteristics of uniform and stepped functionally graded circular cylindrical shells under complex boundary conditions. The analytical model is established based on multi-segment partitioning strategy and first-order shear deformation theory. The displacement functions are handled by unified Jacobi polynomials and Fourier series. In order to obtain continuous conditions and satisfy complex boundary conditions, the penalty method about spring technique is adopted. The solutions about free vibration behavior of functionally graded circular cylindrical shells were obtained by approach of Rayleigh-Ritz. To confirm the dependability and validity of present approach, numerical verifications and convergence studies are conducted on functionally graded cylindrical shells under various influencing factors such as boundaries, spring parameters et al. The present method apparently has rapid convergence ability and excellent stability, and the results of the paper are closely agreed with those obtained by FEM and published literatures.

When volume data is visualized by the ray casting method, the color value of each pixel in the image is obtained by composing the color contributions of the sample points that lie on the ray cast from the pixel point. In most ray tracing methods including Levoy's classical method, the color composition is formulated as a summation of the color contributions of the discrete sample points. However, the more precise color composition is formulated as differential equations over the color contributions of the continuous sample points. The discrete formulation is used, because analytical solutions to the continuous formulations are hard to find. In this paper, however, we have discovered a semi-analytical solution to the continuous formulation of a typical ray tracing of volume data. We have applied both Levoy's method and ours to the same set of data, and compared the visual quality of both results. The comparison shows that our method produces a more fine-grained visualization of volume data.
A semi-continuous and automated method for quantifying atmospheric ammonia at the parts per billion level has been developed. The instrument consists of a high efficiency diffusion scrubber, an electrolytic on-line anion exchange device, and a conductivity detector. Water soluble gases in sampled air diffuse through the porous membrane and are absorbed in an absorbing solution. Interferences are eliminated by using an anion exchange devises. The electrical conductivity of the solution is measured without chromatographic separation. The collection efficiency was over 99%. Over the 0-200 ppbv concentration range, the calibration was linear with $r^2$ = 0.99. The lower limit of detection was 0.09 ppbv. A parallel analysis of Seoul air over several days using this method and a diffusion scrubber coupled to an ion chromatography system showed acceptable agreement, $r^2$ = 0.940 (n = 686). This method can be applied for ambient air monitoring of ammonia.
In practice, analysis of laterally loaded piles is carried out using beams on non-linear Winkler springs model (often known as p-y method) due to its simplicity, low computational cost and the ability to model layered soils. In this approach, soil-pile interaction along the depth is characterized by a set of discrete non-linear springs represented by p-y curves where p is the pressure on the soil that causes a relative deformation of y. p-y curves are usually constructed based on semi-empirical correlations. In order to construct API/DNV proposed p-y curve for clay, one needs two values from the monotonic stress-strain test results i.e., undrained strength ($s_u$) and the strain at 50% yield stress (${\varepsilon}_{50}$). This approach may ignore various features for a particular soil which may lead to un-conservative or over-conservative design as not all the data points in the stress-strain relation are used. However, with the increasing ability to simulate soil-structure interaction problems using highly developed computers, the trend has shifted towards a more theoretically sound basis. In this paper, principles of Mobilized Strength Design (MSD) concept is used to construct a continuous p-y curves from experimentally obtained stress-strain relationship of the soil. In the method, the stress-strain graph is scaled by two coefficient $N_C$ (for stress) and $M_C$ (for strain) to obtain the p-y curves. $M_C$ and $N_C$ are derived based on Semi-Analytical Finite Element approach exploiting the axial symmetry where a pile is modelled as a series of embedded discs. An example is considered to show the application of the methodology.
In this paper, transition constrained Hidden Markov Model(HMM) in which the transition between states occur only within prescribed time slot is proposed and the performance is evaluated in the noisy environment. The transition constrained HMM can explicitly limit the state durations and accurately de scribe the temporal structure of speech signal simply and efficiently. The transition constrained HMM is not only superior to the conventional HMM but also require much less computation time. In order to evaluate the performance of the transition constrained HMM, speaker independent isolated word recognition experiments were conducted using semi-continuous HMM with the noisy speech for 20, 10, 0 dB SNR. Experiment results show that the proposed method is robust to the environmental noise. The 81.08% and 75.36% word recognition rates for conventional HMM was increased by 7.31% and 10.35%, respectively, by using transition constrained HMM when two kinds of noises are added with 10dB SNR.
Since land pixels often generate false alarms in ship detection using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), land masking is a necessary step which can be processed by a land area map or water database. However, due to the continuous coastline changes caused by newport, bridge, etc., an updated data should be considered to mask either the land or the oceanic part of SAR. Furthermore, coastal concrete facilities make noise signals, mainly caused by side lobe effect. In this paper, we propose two methods. One is a semi-automatic water body data generation method that consists of terrain correction, thresholding, and median filter. Another is a dynamic land masking method based on water database. Based on water database, it uses a breadth-first search algorithm to find and mask noise signals from coastal concrete facilities. We verified our methods using Sentinel-1 SAR data. The result shows that proposed methods remove maximum 84.42% of false alarms.

The objective of this study is to develop a method to reduce arsenic concentrations in contaminated water. This work is also aimed at increasing the specificity of membrane separation processes. Arsenic in contaminated waters is often present in the form of negatively charged oxyanions. These are relatively small molecules which cannot be separated directly by ultrafiltration. Oxyanions can be captured by polyelectrolytes and separated by ultrafiltration. Results will be presented on the use of two polyelectrolytes; polyethylenimine (PEI) and poly-diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC) at various feed concentrations. A semi-continuous process utilizing PEI in a circulation loop was tested. The restfits indicate that better than 99.6 % recovery (permeate concentration < 0.001 $\mu$g/L) can be achieved based on an initial arsenic concentration of 300 $\mu$g/L. The results indicate that this treatment method is suitable as a main treatment process for drinking water or a polishing step after arsenic precipitation.
