YBCO coated conductor with a single $Y_2$O$_3$ buffer layer on biaxially textured Ni and NiW substrates

  • A study regarding the epitaxial growth of single $Y_2O_3$ buffer layer on biaxially textured Ni and NiW substrates using pulsed laser deposition is presented. Different deposition conditions were employed and compared in order to obtain good epitaxial $Y_2O_3$ film, furthermore importantly, to obtain good YBCO superconducting films. Following YBCO film deposited by PLD on the top of $Y_2O_3$ films have a good structure and superconducting properties. The J$_{c}$ of YBCO films on $Y_2O_3$ /Ni and $Y_2O_3$ /NiW were $1.0{\times}10^6 A/cm^2 and 1.1\times}10^6 A/cm^2$<.TEX> at 77K and self-field respectively, which indicated that $Y_2O_3$ is a suitable candidate as a single buffer layer for the fabrication of YBCO coated conductor.r.

The C-terminal Region of Human Tau Protein with Ability of Filament Formation

  • Tau protein is one of the microtubule-associated proteins in the mammalian brain. In Alzheimer's disease, tau protein is immobilized in the somatodendritic compartment of certain nerve cells, where it forms a part of the paired helical filament (PHF). To understand the role of tau protein in the formation of PHF, a recombinant human tau protein expressed in Escherichia coli and five synthetic peptide fragments (peptide 1 to peptide 5), corresponding to the C-terminal region of tau protein, were prepared and their ability in self-assembly to form filamentous structures was examined. The recombinant human tau protein formed short rod-like structures in 0.1M MES buffer containing 1 mM $MgCI_2$, while a synthetic peptide fragment 1 containing 55 amino acid residues could assemble into a lot of long filamentous structures in water and particularly twisted helical structures in 0.1M MES buffer containing 1 mM $MgCI_2$. This suggests that the C-terminal region possesses a filament-forming ability and may be related to the formation of the helical structure by providing a powerful filament-forming driving force.

Optimization of Quartz Crystal Microbalance-Precipitation Sensor Measuring Acetylcholinesterase Activity

  • The optimization of a batch-type quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-precipitation sensor measuring acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was conducted. To covalently bind AChE onto the gold electrode of a QCM surface, glutaraldehyde cross-linking to a cystamine self-assembled monolayer was tried at different cystamine concentrations. At the optimum conditions of the QCM-precipitation sensor, 0.1 M potassium phosphate buffer (pH 8.0), containing 0.01% Tween 80, was used as the reaction buffer, with the enzyme amount of 5 units for immobilization and the substrate concentration of 50 mg/ml. The current biosensor might find a future applicability to the sum parameter detection on organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides.

  • In this paper, we have been proposed a new method of multichannel biosensor using random fluidic self-assembly. A metal particle and an array was fabricated. Biomaterials were immobilized on the metal particle. The array and the particles were mixed in a buffer solution, and were arranged by self-assembly. A quarter of total Ni dots were covered by the particles. The binding direction of the particles was controllable, and condition of particles was almost with Au surface on top. The particles were successfully arranged on the array. The biomaterial activities were detected by chemiluminescence.

  • In this study, the applications of the block copolymer thin films are introduced. For this purpose, we first obtained cylindrical nanodomains in polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer perpendicularly oriented to a substrate. Then, nanoporous templates were prepared after removing the PMMA nanodomains by UV treatment. By using electropolymerization, high density nanowire arrays of conducting polymer of poly(pyrrole) and poly( 3-hexyl thiopene) were obtained and their electric properties were measured. Also, these nanoporous thin films were found to be very useful for the separation of human Rhinovirus type 14 (HRV 14), major pathogen of a common cold in humans, from the buffer solution.

A Capillary Electrochromatographic Microchip Packed with Self-Assembly Colloidal Carboxylic Silica Beads

  • An electrochromatographic microchip with carboxyl-group-derivatized mono-disperse silica packing was prepared from the corresponding colloidal silica solution by utilizing capillary action and self-assembly behavior. The silica beads in water were primed by the capillary action toward the ends of cross-patterned microchannel on a cyclic olefinic copolymer (COC) substrate. Slow evaporation of water at the front of packing promoted the self-assembled packing of the beads. After thermally binding a cover plate on the chip substrate, reservoirs for sample solutions were fabricated at the ends of the microchannel. The packing at the entrances of the microchannel was silver coated to fix utilizing an electroless silver-plating technique to prevent the erosion of the packed structure caused by the sudden switching of a high voltage DC power source. The electrochromatographic behavior of the microchip was explored and compared to that of the microchip with bare silica packing in basic borate buffer. Electrophoretic migration of Rhodamine B was dominant in the microchip with the carboxyl-derivatized silica packing that resulted in a migration approximated twice as fast, while the reversible adsorption was dominant in the bare silica-packed microchip. Not only the faster migration rates of the negatively charged FITC-derivatives of amino acids but also the different migration due to the charge interaction at the packing surface were observed. The electrochromatographic characteristics were studied in detail and compared with those of the bare silica packed microchip in terms of the packing material, the separation potential, pH of the running buffer, and also the separation channel length.

(Glycine+Urea) 혼합연료를 이요한 자발착화 연소반응법에 의한 우수한 소결성의 초미분체 LaAlO$_3$ 분말 합성 (Synthesis of Ultrafine LaAlO$_3$ Powders with Good Sinterability by Self-Sustaining Combustion Method Using (Glycine+Urea) Fuel)

  • Si 기판위에 Ba2YCu3O7-$\delta$ 고온초전도체를 응용하기 위해 요구되는 buffer층으로 유망한 재료인 LaAlO3 단일상 분말을 고상반응법과 자발착한 연소반응법으로 제조하였다. 제조된 LaAlO3 분말의 입자형태와 결정상태는 scanning electron microscope (SEM)과 X-ray diffractometer (XRD)를 이용하여 분석하였다. 분말의 비표면적과 소결특성은 각각 Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) 방법과 dilatometer를 측정하였다. 고상반응법으로 LaAlO3 분말을 제조할 때에는 하소온도를 150$0^{\circ}C$까지 높게 하여도 단일상을 얻는 것이 어려웠으나 자발착한 연소반응법에 의한 분말제조는 $650^{\circ}C$의 저온에서 하소하여도 쉽게 얻을 수 있었다. Dilatometer 측정을 통하여 분석해 보면, 고상반응법에 의한 분말보다 자발착한 연소반응법에 의한 분말로 제조된 소결체가 고상반응법에 의한 소결체에 비해 1.4배나 큰 소멸밀도(98.87%)를 가졌다. 이렇게 소결밀도에서 큰 차이가 나는 것은 자발착한 연소방법에 의한 분말의 평균 입자크기가 nano crystal size이고 비표면적 값(56.54 $m^2$/g)이 매우 크기 때문이다. 두가지 방법으로 제조된 분말을 이용, LaAlO3 layer를 스크린 프린팅과 소결법으로 Si 기판상에 제조하였으며 자발착한 연소합성법으로 제조된 분말은 110$0^{\circ}C$에서 우수한 소결특성을 나타내었다.

도파민으로 수식된 SAMs 전극에서 NADH의 전기촉매에 의한 산화 (Electrocatalytic Oxidation of NADH at Electrodes of Self-assembled Monolayers Modified with Dopamine)

  • 금 전극 표면을 시스테인으로 수식한 자기조립 단층막(self-assembled monolayers; SAMs)을 만들고 이를 퀴논 작용기를 갖고 있는 도파민과 반응시킨 수식전극을 제작하였다. 이 전극을 에탄올 내에서 6시간 정도 정치하면 SAMs가 잘 정돈 되어서 보다 개선된 형태의 순환전압전류법(cyclic voltammetry; CV)의 결과를 얻게 되었다. 그 결과 SAMs 말단에 o-퀴논의 산화-환원특성은 0.1 M 인산염 완충용액(pH=7.10)에서 형식전위 값이 0.28 V이고 피크 전위차이가 없는 가역성이 뛰어난 전극이 제작되었다. 이 전극으로 NADH의 정량을 위한 검정선을 제작하였으며, 5.0 ${\times}\;10^{-4}$ M농도까지 정량이 가능한 0.993의 뛰어난 상관관계를 보였다.
