Objective : This study aims to verify the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Sensory Processing and Self-Regulation Checklist (SPSRC) for children with and without autism spectrum disorder. Methods : The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was calculated using Short Sensory Profile (SSP) to verify concurrent validity. Construct validity was verified by comparing the sensory processing ability and self-regulation ability of the two groups. Cronbach's α was calculated in the case of internal consistency for reliability verification, and the test-retest reliability was verified through the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results : Based on the verification of the concurrent validity, the Korean version of SPSRC and SSP showed a statistically significant correlation (p < 0.01). The construct validity was found to have a statistically significant difference between the two groups in the area and sub-items of the Korean version of SPSRC (p < 0.001). For the internal consistency, Cronbach's α ranged from 0.700 to 0.975. The test-retest reliability showed that the correlation coefficient ranged from 0.937 to 0.997. Conclusion : The Korean version of SPSRC was confirmed to be an evaluation tool with high validity and reliability. It is expected to be used as an evaluation tool for planning treatment goals in clinical trials and as a meaningful basis for future research.
Diabetes mellitus, a universal and prevalent chronic disease, is projected to be one of the most formidable worldwide health problems in the 21st century. For those living with diabetes, there is a need for self-care skills to manage a complex medical regimen. Self-efficacy which refers to one's belief in his/her capability to monitor and perform the daily activities required to manage diabetes has be found to be related to self-care. The concept of self-efficacy comes from social cognitive theory which maintains that cognitive mechanism mediate the performance of behavior. The literature cites several research studies which show a strong relationship between self-efficacy and self-care behavior. Meta-analysis is a technique that enables systematic review and quantitative integration of the results from multiple primary studies that are relevant to a particular research question. Therefore, this study was done using meta-analysis to quantitatively integrate the results of independent research studies to obtain numerical estimates of the overall effect of a self-efficacy with diabetic patient on self-care behaviors. The research proceeded in three stages : 1) literature search and retrieval of studies in which self-efficacy was related to self-care, 2) coding, and 3) calculation of mean effect size and data analysis. Seventeen studies which met the research criteria included study population of adults with diabetes, measures of self-care and measures of self-efficacy as a predictive variable. Computation of effect size was done on DSTAT which is a statistical computer program specifically designed for meta-analysis. To determine the effect of self-efficacy on self-care practice homogeneity tests were conducted. Pooled effect size estimates, to determine the best subvariable for composite variables, metabolic control variables and component of self-efficacy and self-care, indicated that the effect of self-efficacy composite on self-care composite was moderate to large. The weighted mean effect size of self-efficacy composite and self-care composite were +.76 and the confidence interval was from +.66 to +.86 with the number of subjects being 1,545. The total for this meta-analysis result showed that the weighted mean effect sizes ranged from +.70 to +1.81 which indicates a large effect. But since reliabilities of the instruments in the primary studies were low or not stated, caution must be applied in unconditionally accepting the results from these effect sizes. Meta-analysis is a useful took for clarifying the status of knowledge development and guiding decision making about future research and this study confirmed that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and self-care in patients with diabetes. It, thus, provides support for nurses to promote self-efficacy in their patients. While most of the studies included in this meta-analysis used social cognitive theory as a framework for the study, some studies use Fishbein & Ajzen's attitude model as a model for active self-care. Future research is needed to more fully define the concept of self-care and to determine what it is that makes patients feel competent in their self-care activities. The results of this study showed that self-efficacy can promote self-care. Future research is needed with experimental design to determine nursing interventions that will increase self-efficacy.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the Enneagram personality types, ego-identity, self-efficacy and interpersonal relations among adolescents in high school. Methods: The participants were 322 high school students. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, which were constructed to include demographic-environmental factors, Enneagram personality types, ego-identity, self-efficacy and interpersonal relations. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and pearson correlation coefficients. Results: In the nine Enneagram personality types, type 9 was highly measured. In the triadic center of Enneagram personality types, gut type was highly measured. In the wing, 9W1 was highly measured and the disruption rather than integration was highly measured. The most development level was level 5. The score of ego-identity was 3.25, the score of self-efficacy was 3.32 and the score of interpersonal ralations was 3.50. The correlation of ego-identity, self-efficacy and interpersonal relations showed significantly positive correlation with all. Conclusion: There were correlating relationships among ego-identity, self-efficacy, interpersonal relations in high school students. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to study on the relationship between Enneagram personality types and related variables. Also, We need to develop program that improve ego-identity, self-efficacy and interpersonal relations according to Enneagram personality types.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of recovery from disease in the patients doing a kind of Buddhist meditation, and to develop a grounded theory about meditation. Method: Data was collected by an in-depth interview using tape-recordings from sixteen participants doing meditation. The data was analyzed using the grounded theory method proposed by Strauss and Corbin(1998). Result: The core category was discovering the true self. The participants began to do meditation because of their disease. They experienced obstacles due to incomplete religious acceptance. However, their faith grew gradually based on religious experiences that were indescribable. Finally, they entirely trusted the inner healer, which is emphasized in meditation. The strategies that they used were self reflection and seeking help for accepting deep meditation. They were stabilized in physical, psychological and social daily living. The processes of discovering the true self were identified as entering religious discipline, embodying religious discipline, self-accomplishing religious faith, and recovering mind-body health. Conclusion: This study provided the understanding of mind-body integration. Empirical research may be needed to prove scientifically the effects of meditation.

The merit of fuzzy rule based systems stems from their capability of encoding qualitative knowledge of experts into quantitative rules. Recent advancement in automatic tuning or self-organization of fuzzy rules from experimental data further enhances their power, allowing the integration of the top-down encoding of knowledge with the bottom-up learning of rules. In this paper, methods of self-organizing fuzzy rules and of performing defuzzification and inference is presented based on a multi-resolution radial basis function network. The network learns an arbitrary input-output mapping from sample distribution as the union of hyper-ellipsoidal clusters of various locations, sizes and shapes. The hyper-ellipsoidal clusters, representing fuzzy rules, are self-organized based of global competition in such a way as to ensute uniform mapping errors. The cooperative interpolation among the multiple clusters associated with a mapping allows the network to perform a bidirectional many-to-many mapping, representing a particular from of defuzzification. Finally, an inference engine is constructed for the network to search for an optimal chain of rules or situation transitions under the constraint of transition feasibilities imposed by the learned mapping. Applications of the proposed network to skill acquisition are shown.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the effects of an integrated nursing intervention program on the quality of life, depression and self care agency of community dwelling cancer patients. Methods: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental, one group pre-post test. A total of 25 community dwelling cancer patients in J city were included in this study. An integration intervention was 30 times, 10 weeks program. The data were collected between May and November of 2014. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 through paired t-test. Results: There were significant differences in the quality of life (p=.007) and self-care agency (p=.042) after 10 week's intervention. Conclusion: The results indicate that an integrated intervention program including educational, cognitive, emotional and physical intervention is effective for community dwelling cancer patients. Further attention should be paid to the intensity and period of an integrated intervention program.
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether differentiation of self mediates the relationship between parenting styles (i.e., care and overprotection) and the level of career decision-making among young adults. We separately measured the mother's and the father's parenting styles and five dimensions of differentiation of self that S. Je (1989) suggested. The data came from 387 young adults who were juniors and seniors at universities in Seoul and its surrounding cities. Using Baron and Kenny's (1986) steps based on regression, we found that the relationships between both caring and overprotective parenting styles and young adults' level of career decision-making were mediated by four dimensions of differentiation of self (i.e., intellectual functioning vs. emotional functioning, family projection process, emotional cutoff, and family regression) except for integration of self. The results were consistent for both the mother and the father. Bootstrapping tests showed that all of the mediation effects were statistically significant. This study contributes to the literature by showing that young adults' level of career decision-making is not simply determined by inputs such as parenting styles but is also mediated by differentiation of self. The results of this study are meaningful in that both the mother's and the father's parenting styles could make a difference in young adults' level of career decision-making through differentiation of self.
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of simulation education with problem-based learning (SIM-PBL) on information literacy, self-directed learning ability, and academic self-efficacy of nursing students. The subjects were 81 fourth-year nursing students attending a university in Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. SIM-PBL was provided once per week (150 minutes each) for four weeks, and a structured questionnaire was used to survey information literacy, self-directed learning ability, and academic self-efficacy before and after educational training. After completing the four-week program, abilities in the sub-items of information literacy, such as information integration (${\acute{p}}=.030$), information expression (${\acute{p}}=.003$), and information ethics (${\acute{p}}=.016$) were improved. However, no differences in self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficacy were noted. Findings confirmed that SIM-PBL is an effective teaching method for improving the information literacy of nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to come up with an SIM-PBL education plan for utilizing reliable and useful information ethically.
This paper analyzes a social insurance system that integrates unemployment insurance with a pension program, allowing workers to borrow against their future wage income to finance consumption during an unemployment episode and thus improving their search incentives while reducing risks. This paper identifies the conditions under which the integration improves welfare and the factors which determine the optimal degree of integration. A fully integrated system is one in which no reliance is placed at all on a separate tax-funded unemployment insurance program. We show that when the duration of unemployment is very short compared to the period of employment or retirement, the optimal system involves an exclusive reliance on pension-funded self-insurance. This system imposes a negligible risk burden for workers while avoiding attenuating search incentives. We also argue that a joint integration of several social insurance programs with a pension program through an individual account is desirable unless the risks are perfectly correlated to each other.
