Purposes: This study was to examine the effects of empowerment education programs on empowerment and mental health in high school students. Methods: This study involved a nonequivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects for this study consisted of 421 high school students who attended two general high schools in Busan. The 211 students in the experimental group received empowerment education training, while the 210 students in the control group did not. The data were collected from March 2, 2004 to July 20, 2004. The empowerment education program consisted of 17 separate 50-minute sessions. The questionnire was developedby authors and revised it based on experts' advice. SPSS 11.0 program was used to analyze the data. Chi-square test and t-test were used to test the homogeneity of general characteristics and dependent variables. Student's t-test was used to evaluate the differences between the experimental group and control group after the treatment. Results: Just as we hypothesized, the experimental group exhibited higher empowerment scores than the control group. For subcategory, Score of self-efficacy and self-esteem increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group. However, the score of decision-making ability did not increase significantly. The data failed to support our second hypothesis that the experimental group would have higher mental health scores than the control group. Although the score of self-scale increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group, the score of social-support and psychopathology did not. Conclusions: Empowerment education programs are effective for empowerment of high school students. However, such training is effective only for promoting the self scale but not overall mental health. Thus, we suggest the application of the empowerment education program to make high school students aware of their abilities. Furthermore, we suggest the implementation of mental health programs to supplement such empowerment education programs.
The purpose of this study was to explore logical thinking abilities and metacognitive characteristics by student's giftedness and grade level. Furthermore, this study sought to present the practical basis for the promotion of students' abilities in self-driven learning as well as cognition. Average-ability students(n=199), economically disadvantage gifted students(n=133), and gifted students(n=111), who were sampled by two-step sampling procedures, responded the logical thinking ability test(Cho et al, 2006) and the questionnaire asking self-perception for 'metacognitive knowledge' and 'metacognitive control' abilities(Cho & Han, 2004). As the results, average-ability students showed less logical thinking abilities(in language, mathematics, and space) than gifted students. The logical thinking abilities had affected by giftedness, grade level and these interaction. And gifted students showed higher metacognitive control abilities in planning, monitoring, priority, and strategies of learning than average-ability students. However, there were no significant differences in metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive control abilities between economically disadvantaged gifted students and gifted students.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the radial bone strength, sitting balance ability and global self-esteem of wheelchair martial arts practitioners and healthy control participants. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Nine wheelchair martial art practitioners with physical disabilities and 28 able-bodied healthy individuals participated in the study. The bone strength of the distal radius was assessed using the Sunlight Mini-Omni Ultrasound Bone Sonometer; sitting balance was quantified using the modified functional reach test (with reference to a scale marked on the wall); and the self-administered Rosenberg self-esteem (RSE) scale was used to measure the global self-esteem of the participants. The velocity of the ultrasound wave (speed of sound, m/s) traveling through the outer surface of the radial bone was measured and was then converted into a T-score and a Z-score. These ultrasound T-score and Z-score that represent bone strength; the maximum forward reaching distance in sitting (cm) that represents sitting balance; and the RSE total self-esteem score that indicates global self-esteem were used for analysis. Results: The results revealed that there were no statistically significant between-group differences for radial bone-strength, maximum forward reaching distance, or self-esteem outcomes. Conclusions: The wheelchair martial arts practitioners had similar radial bone strength, sitting balance performance and self-esteem to able-bodied healthy persons. Our results imply that wheelchair martial arts might improve bone strength, postural control and self-esteem in adult wheelchair users. This new sport-wheelchair martial arts-might be an exercise option for people with physical disabilities.
Bowlby has proposed that child-mother attachment is important in the child's representation of self. In this study, the child's emotional intelligence was examined in connection with child-mother attachment with a sample of 5-year-olds. The quality of attachment was assessed based on the child's behavior on reunion following a separation, using a SSP (Strange Situation Procedure) system devised by Main and Solomon. The emotional intelligence was assessed with Lee's Scale for young children. The results show significant connections between child-mother attachment and the emotional intelligence. Specific areas of emotional intelligence are related to particular patterns of attachment. Namely, securely attached children are assessed significantly higher than the unsecurely attached, not only in the ability to identify and control their own emotions, but also in the ability to control others' emotional state. Also, securely attached children perceive their social competence significantly higher.

In this paper, a hybrid neural network is proposed to improve the learning ability of a neural network. The union of the characteristics of a Self-Organizing Neural Network model and of multi-layer perceptron model using the backpropagation learning method gives us the advantage of reduction of the learning error and the learning time. In learning process, the proposed hybrid neural network reduces the number of nodes in hidden layers to reduce the calculation time. And this proposed neural network uses the fuzzy feedback values, when it updates the responding region of each node in the hidden layer. To show the effectiveness of this proposed hybrid neural network, the boolean function(XOR, 3Bit Parity) and the solution of inverse kinematics are used. Finally, this proposed hybrid neural network is applied to the visual tracking control of a PUMA560 robot, and the result data is presented.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Mindfulness-based concentration qigong for children (MBCQ-C) in healthy children with subjective poor attention. Methods : This study examined the effects of MBCQ-C on healthy children with subjective poor attention, who vistied Korean medicine hospital neuropsychiatry outpatient clinic. The MBCQ-C was practiced with 11 participants, 2 of them quit in the middle of the program, and hence, they were excluded for data analysis. MBCQ-C consisted of 8 sessions, and each session took about 60 minutes. The outcome measurement was Frankfurter Aufmerksamkeits-Inventar (FAIR), which measured selective attention, self-control and sustained attention. Results : The results of this study showed that selective attention, and sustained attention were significantly improved. Self-control also improved, but without any statistical significance. These results indicate MBCQ-C was effective for the improvement of attention abilities, but self-control, including upper cognition area needs more consistent exercise. Conclusions : The MBCQ-C consisting of 8 sessions were shown to be an effective intervention in improving the attention abilities of healthy children with subjective poor attention.
This study explores the feasibility of granite waste aggregate (GWA) as a partial replacement of natural fine aggregate (NFA) in binary blend self-compacting concrete (SCC) prepared with fly ash. Total of nine SCC mixtures were prepared wherein one was Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) based control SCC mixture and remaining were fly ash based binary blend SCC mixtures which included the various percentages of GWA. Fresh properties tests such as slump flow, T500, V-funnel, J-ring, L-box, U-box, segregation resistance, bleeding, fresh density, and loss of slump flow (with time) were conducted. Compressive strength and percentage of permeable voids were evaluated in the hardened state. All the SCC mixtures exhibited sufficient flowability, passing ability, and resistance to segregation. Besides, all the binary blend SCC mixtures exhibited lower fresh density and bleeding, and better residual slump (up to 50% of GWA) compared to the OPC based control SCC mixture. Binary blend SCC mixture incorporating up to 40% GWA provided higher compressive strength than binary blend control SCC mixture. The findings of this study encourage the utilization of GWA in the development of binary blend SCC mixtures with satisfactory workability characteristics as a replacement of NFA.

Today, the problem of interrational competition has been strongly appeared and as the deflation is deep occasionally, it is sure that granting autonomous motivation of businessman or importance of self development is proposed especially. Then, which subject is included in granting autonomous motivation as that\ulcorner We must study about that subject first. First, we should study about essence of granting autonomous motivation. Granting autonomous motivation is the course of accompli¬shment of ideal human individually. Secondly, we will divide that into goal, desire and positive attitude subjectly and will study about those respectively. Contents of this theory are as below. 1. Proposal of problem 2. Basic structure of granting autonomous motivation and ability 2-1 Consideration of granting autonomous motivation 2-2 Basic structure of ability 3. The method of granting autonomous motivation 3-1 Simulation of granting autonomous motivation 3-2 Establishment of subject on granting autonomous motivation 4. Granting autonomous motivation by utilization of opportunity 4-1 Utilization of opportunity 4-2 Self-development by reading 4-3 Self development by writing 4-4 Self-development by discussion 4-5 Self development by control of health 4-6 Self-development by making the time 5. Conclusion This theory will be developed by classification as above. Reflecting many times and experiencing a skill for himself, he should teach his men the skill. There are some men not to be able to talk with, but a businessman should make his surroundings cheerful with granting autonomous motivation. If he understands the men of his surroundings with his positive attitude, all tasks of him will be achieved. Formation of question consciousness that he can study always, is needed on which is the important task in himself.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to know the effect of visual feedback self exercise (VFSE) on postural control in stroke patients. METHODS: 26 CVA patients were participated. The experimental group (EG) 12 (46.2%) and the control group (CG) 14 (53.8%), 17 males and 9 females. The subjects preformed VFSE on training instrument 10 minutes for 20 times in 2-3 weeks. The test was done 3 times. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences of the general characteristics of subjects between EG and CG by sex, affected site, muscle tone, sensory deficit, unilateral neglects, and vestibular dysfunction. The postural control effects of VFSE, in the EG showed that there were statistically significant differences among the tests during VFSE. However in the CG there were no statistically significant differences among the tests during VFSE. Also there was statistically significant difference between EG and CG after VFSE (p<.05). On the right hemiplegic EG showed that there was statistically significant difference between premid test and pre-post test after VFSE. But, the left hemiplegic EG showed that there was no statistically significant difference between before and after VFSE with all of tests. CONCLUSION: CVA patients had significant different of body weight ratio between hemiplegic side and the other side. This research suggested that CVA patients need self exercise with visual feedback for the improvement postural control ability. Therefore Physical therapist should not only prescribe hand-on exercise but also need to teach them self sensory feedback exercise to help them improve their postural control.
