The Effects of the Small Group Collaborative Learning Strategy using Smart Devices in Elementary School Science Classes (초등 과학 수업에서 스마트 기기를 활용한 소집단 협력 학습의 효과)

  • In this study, the effects of the small group collaborative learning on students' achievement, the retention of the achievement, communication anxiety, and science learning motivation were investigated. The aptitude-treatment interaction between the level of students' self-directed learning ability and the intervention was also examined. Two classes (38 students) from an elementary school were respectively assigned to a control group and a treatment group. A self-directed learning ability test, a communication anxiety test, and a science learning motivation test were administered as pretests. The intervention lasted for 8 class periods. After instruction, an achievement test, the communication anxiety test, and the science learning motivation test were administered. An achievement retention test were also administered after four weeks. The results indicated that there were significant treatmentaptitude interaction effects in the achievement test scores and the achievement retention test scores. In the communication anxiety and the science learning motivation, however, any significant difference was not found between the scores of the treatment group and the control group. Educational implications are discussed.

Effects of Resilience on Academic Burnout of University students Majoring in Public Health: for group with Low Resilience (보건학 전공 대학생의 회복탄력성이 학업소진에 미치는 영향: 회복탄력성이 낮은 군 대상)

  • Objectives: This study is to examine the influences of three sub-factors of resilience on academic burn out among a group of university students, with low resilience, majored in public health. Methods: The survey was made during January 1 to 13, 2017 and after checking the resilience scores of 166 respondents and the questionnaires of 115 respondents, whose scores were less than 195, an average score of Korea, were selected and analyzed using AMOS. Results: The average resilience and academic burn-out scores were 173 and 2.96, respectively. The goodness-of-fit of proposed model showed RMSEA=0.068, GFI=0.916, NFI=0.901, IFI=0.963, CFI=0.962 so, final measurement model was selected. The analysis of the suggested model showed that among three sub-factors of resilience, only self-control ability had a negative(-) effect on academic burnout and two others were shown to have no effects. Conclusion: By researching and introducing a education method that could enhance self-control ability, it would effectively reduce academic burnout in university students with low resilience and majored in public health.

  • Extract of Japanese red pine needles has been used in Asia pacific regions since long periods believing its valuable properties as tonic and ability of curing diseases of unidentified symptoms. Some selective compounds present in the extract and their effects were analyzed. Carbohydrates and vitamin c were identified using HPLC; terpenoid compounds by GC-MS; anti-bacterial analysis by paper discs, plates count and gastrointestinal motility by whole cell patch clamp. The extract is a mixture of compounds therefore its diverse effect was expected. Self-fermentation in extract proceeds after spontaneous appearance of yeast strains without inoculation. Effects and composition of the extract vary with varying period of self-fermentation. Extract inhibits the growth of bacteria dose dependently exhibiting its antibacterial properties however effectiveness increases with increase in fermentation period. The extract also can modulate gastrointestinal motility in murine small intestine by modulating pace maker currents in ICC mediated through ATP sensitive potassium channel.

The Effects of the Drinking-Reduction Program Adopting Transtheoretical and Leisure Models on Problem Drinking Behavior and Cognition (범이론과 여가모형을 적용한 절주프로그램이 문제음주행위와 인지에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study is to examine the effects of the drinking-reduction program that utilizes transtheoretical model and leisure ability model on the problem drinking behavior, alcohol outcome expectancy, and abstinence self-efficacy of. problem drinkers at workplaces. Method: The subjects consisted of 54 male problem drinkers who scored over 12 points in the AUDIT-K with 23 persons in the experimental group and 31 persons in the control group. The research results were analyzed using the SAS program with Chi-square test, t-test, repeated ANOVA, and post-hoc comparison. Results: 1) The experimental group showed a significantly lower score in problem drinking behavior than the control group. 2) The experimental group showed a significantly lower score in alcohol outcome expectancy than the control group. 3) The experimental group showed a significantly higher score in abstinence self-efficacy than the control group. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the drinking-reduction program effectively reduces the drinking behavior of problem drinkers at workplaces, reduces alcohol outcome expectancy, and enhances abstinence self-efficacy. Accordingly, it is considered that a drinking-reduction program can be a useful nursing intervention method for problem drinkers at workplaces to reduce drinking and improve the quality of life.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of cooperative control(T-cell modeling) and selection of group behavior strategy(B-cell modeling) based on immune system in distributed autonomous robotic system(DARS). Immune system is living body's self-protection and self-maintenance system. Thus these features can be applied to decision making of optimal swarm behavior in dynamically changing environment. For the purpose of applying immune system to DARS, a robot is regarded as a B cell, each environmental condition as an antigen, a behavior strategy as an antibody and control parameter as a T-call respectively. The executing process of proposed method is as follows. When the environmental condition changes, a robot selects an appropriate behavior strategy. And its behavior strategy is stimulated and suppressed by other robot using communication. Finally much stimulated strategy is adopted as a swarm behavior strategy. This control scheme is based of clonal selection and idiotopic network hypothesis. And it is used for decision making of optimal swarm strategy. By T-cell modeling, adaptation ability of robot is enhanced in dynamic environments.

An Application of Web-Based Learning Focused on Environment Education of Elementary School Science (초등학교 과학과 환경교육을 위한 웹기반 학습의 적용)

  • The aims of this study are to develop web-based learning materials for science and environmental education of elementary school. The effect of environmental education was divided into eight to measure: the awareness of using web as environmental material, the ability to use web as environmental material. the awareness of environmental problems, the satisfaction for environmental education using web, the awareness of preserving local environment, self-leading ability to learn environment, the effect of using environment homepage, and the internalization of environmental awareness. This study obtained the following results; First, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 1.29 points higher than the control group having traditional learning in the awareness of using web as environmental material, showing a statistically significant difference. Second, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 2.80 points higher than the control group in the ability to use web as environmental material, showing a statistically significant difference. Third, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 1.10 points higher than the control group in the awareness of environmental problems, showing a statistically significant difference. Fourth, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based teaming was 0.89 points higher than the control group in the satisfaction for environmental education using web, showing a statistically significant difference. Fifth, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 1.70 points higher than the control group in the self-leading ability to learn environment, showing a statistically significant difference. Sixth, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 1.21 points higher than the control group in the effect of using environment homepage, showing a statistically significant difference. Finally, as a result of post-test, the average of the test group of web-based learning was 1.39 points higher than the control group in the internalization of environmental awareness, showing a statistically significant difference. Based on these results, it is assumed that the teaching method which applied web-based teaming to science and environmental education in elementary school is a effective strategy for elementary science and on environmental education.

  • Autonomous mobile robot has an ability to navigate using both map in known environment and sensors for detecting obstacles in unknown environment. In general, autonomous mobile robot navigates by global path planning on the basis of already made map and local path planning on the basis of various kinds of sensors to avoid abrupt obstacles. This paper provides a global path planning method using self-organizing feature map which is a method among a number of neural network. The self-organizing feature map uses a randomized small valued initial weight vectors, selects the neuron whose weight vector best matches input as the winning neuron, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. On the other hand, the modified method in this research uses a predetermined initial weight vectors, gives the systematic input vector whose position best matches obstacles, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. According to simulation results one can conclude that the modified neural network is useful tool for the global path planning problem of a mobile robot.

The Effects of the Presentation of Self-Made Problems on the Enhancement of Scholastic Achievement in Mathematics and Logicial Thinking (자작문제 발표방식이 수학과 학력신장에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to check out whether the method that students make problems and anouence them to both students and teacher in the next class influence on the students' intersts, attitudes, logical thinking ability and lerning achievement in mathematics. The following is the experimental design and procedure. First, the author divided students into two groups. One is the experimental group and the other is the control group. These two groups' students consist of the advanced level, the intermediate level and the elementary level according to the students' learning proficiency Second, the author used the different teaching method between the experimental group and the control group. The author gave the experimental group's students the learning assignment problems according to their three levels and made students present the problems to the instructor and classmates in the next class. On the other hand, the author gave the control group's students learning assignment problems according to their three levels, and made them only submit their assingment to the instructor. The results of this study are as follows : 1)The method of solving and presenting the self-made problems on the basis of the informations to solve the given preceding model learning problems according to students' levels made students' learning attitudes more positive even though the method couldn't enhance the students' interests in mathematics. 2)The method of solving and presenting the self-made problems was effective to improve the logical thinking ability for especially the intermediate level's students among the three levels. In addition, the intermediate level's students showed great positive changes in their improvements of the learning achievment. It is assumed that this result is caused by two major factors(reasons). One is students' confidence that they can solve the fundamental problems without difficulty. And the other is students' desire to solve the problems of the intermediate level or more advanced level.

Effectiveness of Tobacco Education for Pharmacy Students in Indonesia

  • Background: Smoking remains the major preventable cause of death worldwide, especially cancer-related death. Evidence clearly indicates that tobacco-related morbidity and mortality is reduced by smoking cessation. Pharmacists are well-positioned to provide tobacco cessation services an involvement of pharmacists in smoking cessation is encouraged by several organizations. While Indonesia's prevalence of smoking is in the first rank in Asian countries, none of the pharmacy schools in Indonesia are currently offering tobacco-related courses in their existing curricula at present. Our study aimed to develop and to evaluate the effectiveness of tobacco education (TE) for pharmacy students in Indonesia. Materials and Methods: A 6-hour TE was developed and evaluated using pre-test/post-test with control group design. A total of 137 fifth-year pharmacy students at Gadjah Mada University (GMU), Yogyakarta, were chosen as an intervention group while a total of 105 fifth-year students of Islamic University of Indonesia, (UII) served as the control group. Knowledge, perceived-role, self-efficacy, and ability to perform counseling using the 5A's framework were evaluated. Results: A significant improvement (P < 0.001) in knowledge, perceived-role, and self-efficacy was found in the intervention group but not in the control group. In addition, we revealed that 89.7% of the intervention group were able to perform counseling using 5A's. Conclusions: The developed TE significantly improved student knowledge, perceived-rolse, self-efficacy, and created an ability to perform cessation counseling. Integration of TE education in curricula of Indonesian pharmacy schools nation-wide should be encouraged.

The development and effects of a nursing education program for hyperglycemia patient care using standardized patients for nursing students (간호대학생을 대상으로 표준화 환자를 활용한 고혈당 대상자 간호 교육프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a nursing education program for hyperglycemia patient care using standardized patients. Methods: This study used a nonequivalent control group pre-test and post-test non-synchronized design. A total of 50 senior university nursing students who had completed an adult nursing course participated in this study (experimental group, n=24; control group, n=26). This nursing education program was developed according to the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The collected data were analyzed using χ2 -test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, paired t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. Results: Significant differences were shown between the experimental and control groups in clinical performance ability (F=277.41, p<.001), communication skills (F=47.18, p<.001), self-efficacy (F=3.81, p=.031), and learning satisfaction (t=2.25, p=.033). Problem-solving ability was not statistically significant between the groups. Conclusion: The nursing education program for hyperglycemia patient care using standardized patients was effective in improving nursing students' clinical performance ability, communication skills, and learning satisfaction. Therefore, it is proposed that the education program developed in this study be used as part of an education program to enhance nursing students' abilities in caring for hyperglycemia patients.
