  • In this paper, we proposed a dictionary extension and a ternary decomposition technique to improve the effectiveness of Khmer word segmentation. Most word segmentation approaches depend on a dictionary. However, the dictionary being used is not fully reliable and cannot cover all the words of the Khmer language. This causes an issue of unknown words or out-of-vocabulary words. Our approach is to extend the original dictionary to be more reliable with new words. In addition, we use ternary decomposition for the segmentation process. In this research, we also introduced the invisible space of the Khmer Unicode (char\u200B) in order to segment our training corpus. With our segmentation algorithm, based on ternary decomposition and invisible space, we can extract new words from our training text and then input the new words into the dictionary. We used an extended wordlist and a segmentation algorithm regardless of the invisible space to test an unannotated text. Our results remarkably outperformed other approaches. We have achieved 88.8%, 91.8% and 90.6% rates of precision, recall and F-measurement.

  • As the size and the diversity of the beauty industry grow, the need for systematic marketing strategy in beauty shop also increases. This study aims at finding 1)how to segment the market of beauty industry based on lifestyle variable and 2)how to set up the corresponding mix strategy on target market. The case of 'B beauty shop' shows that the validity of lifestyle-based segementation model is verified as the shop has posted a drastic financial outcome during last 5 years. In addition, this study implies that the corelation research between lifestyle variables and marketing mix strategy should be included as an important factor in launching a beauty-related business in segmented market.

  • As to many conventional segmentation approaches , spatial autocorrelation, perhaps being the first law of geography, is always overlooked. Thus, the corresponding segmentation results are always not so satisfying, which will further affect the subsequent image processing or analyses. In order to improve segmentation results, a geostatistic based segmentation approach with the consideration of spatial autocorrelation hidden in remote-sensing images is proposed in this article. First, by calculating the mean variance between each pair of pixels at given different lag distances, information like the size of typical targets in the scene can be obtained, and segmentation thresholds are calculated accordingly. Second, an initial region growing segmentation approach is implemented. Finally, based on the segmentation thresholds obtained at the first step and the initial segmentation results, the final segmentation results are obtained using the same region growing approach by taking the local mutual best fitting strategy. From the experiment results, we found the approach is rather promising. However, there still exists some problems to be settled, and further researches should be conducted in the future.

  • Since 2008 when IPTV service entered the broadcasting market, the competition among interactive broadcasting media has been growing more and more fierce. To make a market strategy under the harsh competition, this study tried to make an IPTV customer segmentation based on the characteristics of interactive broadcasting media. From previous literature, this study drew five characteristics of interactive broadcasting media : ease of use, two-way communications, active control, variety of content, and economic efficiency. Two-step clustering based on these characteristics identified four customer segments. There were statistically significant differences in the five characteristics among the customer segments. This study profiled the customer segments and proposed competitive strategies for each customer segment.

  • In this article, we present a new grey scale image segmentation method based on Fuzzy logic and bitplane techniques which combines the bits of different bitplanes of a pixel inorder to increase the segmentation quality and to get a more reliable and accurate segmentation result. The proposed segmentation approach is conceptually different and explores a new strategy. Infact, our technique consists in combining many realizations of the image together inorder to increase the information quality and to get an optimal segmented image. For segmentation, we proceed in two steps. In the first step, we begin by identifying the bitplanes that represent the lungs clearly. For this purpose, the intensity value of a pixel is separated into bitplanes. In the second step, segmentation values are assigned for each bitplane based on membership table. The segmented values of foreground are combined and the segmentation values of background are combined. The algorithm is demonstrated through the medical computed tomography (CT) images. The segmentation accuracy of the proposed method is compared with two existing techniques. Satisfactory segmentation results have been obtained showing the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

  • Crack is the most common typical feature of concrete deterioration, so routine monitoring and health assessment become essential for identifying failures and to set up an appropriate rehabilitation strategy in order to extend the service life of concrete structures. At present, image segmentation algorithms have been applied to crack analysis based on inspection images of concrete structures. The results of crack segmentation offering crack information, including length, width, and area is helpful to assist inspectors in surface inspection of concrete structures. This study proposed an algorithm of image segmentation enhancement, named morphological segmentation based on edge detection-II (MSED-II), to concrete crack segmentation. Several concrete pavement and building surfaces were imaged as the study materials. In addition, morphological operations followed by cross-curvature evaluation (CCE), an image segmentation technique of linear patterns, were also tested to evaluate their performance in concrete crack segmentation. The result indicates that MSED-II compared to CCE can lead to better quality of concrete crack segmentation. The least area, length, and width measurement errors of the concrete cracks are 5.68%, 0.23%, and 0.00%, respectively, that proves MSED-II effective for automatic measurement of concrete cracks.

  • An efficient and effective unsupervised single moving object detection framework is presented in this paper. Given the sparsely labelled trajectory points, we adopt a coarse-to-fine strategy to detect and segment the foreground from the background. The superpixel level coarse segmentation reduces the complexity of subsequent processing, and the pixel level refinement improves the segmentation accuracy. A distance measurement is devised in the coarse segmentation stage to measure the similarities between generated superpixels, which can then be used for clustering. Moreover, a Quadmap is introduced to facilitate the refinement in the fine segmentation stage. According to the experiments, our algorithm is effective and efficient, and favorable results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods.

  • Segmentation, targeting, and positioning are marketing tools used by a company to gain competitive advantage in the market. For an accurate segmentation, various statistics models or datamining techniques are used. Especially, datamining techniques are introduced in the beginning of the 1980s and solved several marketing problems effectively. In this paper, we research about datamining technique for segmentation and analyze customer's transaction data of Department Store using Decision Tree Analysis, one of the dataming technique. After that, we discuss effects and advantages of segmentation using Decision Tree.
