This experiment was conducted at college of Agriculture and Life Science in Chungnam National University from September, 2004 to June, 2007 in order to evaluate the mixture possibility between barley and rye in the area of Daejeon. Rye (cultivar; Koolgrazer) and barley (cultivar; Daeyeon Bori) were set for the experiment. The experiment was arranged in four treatments: R100 (rye 100%), R60 + B40(rye 60% + barley 40%), R50% + B50% (rye 50% + barley 50%), and R40% + B60% (rye 40% + barley 60%). The experiment was repeated three times in the randomized complete block. The average dry matter (DM) yield for three years of R100 weighed 9,282 kg and its DM yield was higher than any other DM yield. The higher the barley seed rates are, the lower the DM yield is (p<0.05). As the barley seed rates increased 40%, 50%, and 60% respectively, its vegetative percentage tended to increase 30%, 41%, and 47%, but the barley vegetative percentage against its seed rates did bring forth somewhat low results. Compared with R100, the contents of crude protein (CP) and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) got higher as the barley seed rates became higher, while the contents of NDF, ADF, cellulose, and lignin were lower (p<0.05). Compared with R100, the yields of crude protein dry matter (CPDM) and digestible dry matter (DDM) showed lower in the any mixed barley (p<0.05). Thus, in case of using barley mixed with rye in the area of Daejeon, it seems to be quite difficult, unless the supply of high-productive barley variety is followed, to enhance the yields of DM, CPDM, and DDM.

This study was conducted to evaluate the dry matter yield and quality of mixture types with Festulolium braunii (Festuca pratensis Huds. ${\times}$ Lolium multiflorum Lam.) as a forage sources. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three mixture types: (1) Festulolium braunii (seeding rate, FB 50%)+orchardgrass (OG 50%), (2) Festulolium braunii (FB 80%)+red clover(RC 20%), and (3) Festulolium braunii (FB 20%)+orchardgrass (OG 50%)+tall fescue(TF 20%)+white clover (WC 10%) and four replications. This study carried out from Sep. 1995 to May 1998 at Chungnam University. Throughout this experiment, the dry matter yields and forage quality were observed. The DM yield of FB+RC mixtures was higher than that of other mixture types, but there were no significant difference among mixture types. The FB+RC mixtures was higher than the other mixture types in the CP content(P<0.05). However, the NDF and ADF content of FB+RC mixtures were significantly lower than those of other mixture types(P<0.05). The CP and DDM yields of FB+RC mixtures were higher than those of other mixture types(P<0.05). In addition, the FB percentage of total herbage was ranged from 51% to 58% in all mixture types at the last cutting time in 1997. Based on the results mentioned above, it appears that FB has enough of possibility in mixture with other grasses, especially good mixed with RC.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of winter forage rye and green manure hairy vetch on soil mineral nitrogen and corn nitrogen uptake. Soil nitrate at corn seeding decreased slightly with cultivation of winter rye, but soil nitrate did not decreased by cultivation of winter hairy vetch. Soil nitrate nitrogen increased 60~70 kgN/ha higher by hairy vetch green manure than winter rye and fallow at 6-leaf and harvest stage of corn, respectively, and much soil nitrate nitrogen such as 85, 125 kgN/ha was remained at N fertilizer 100, 200 kgN/ha of hairy vetch green manure at harvesting time, respectively. Corn yield was not different among treatments of winter crop and N rate, but nitrogen concentration of corn stover increased by hairy vetch green manure. Increase of total corn nitrogen uptake by hairy vetch green manure was 50~60 kgN/ha compared with winter rye and fallow. It is thought that basal fertilizer nitrogen 100 kgN/ha could be reduced by hairy vetch green manure in considering soil nitrate and nitrogen uptake at harvesting time.
Investigation on the water quality of Hwangguji River and experiment on the effects of nitrogen and soil improvements were carried out in the paddy field irrigated with polluted water of the river. The obtained results are as follows: 1) Amount of COD and $NH_4-N$ in water of the river were 54 ppm, 65 ppm, during the seeding time, and were 52 ppm, 512 ppm during the transplanting time respectively. Their concentrations were over the standard levels. It seemed that the water pollution was mainly caused by organic waste matters. 2) It seemed that the effective nitrogen level was $7{\sim}8$kg/10a in the paddy field irrigated with polluted water of the river. 3) The rice yields of potassium twice quantity application plot with N.P.K. fertilizer, the calcium application plot with N.P.K. fertilizer and the combined plot with potassium, wallarstonite, calcium and fresh straw, were increased 4, 5 and 8%, respectively, than that of the N.P.K. fertilizer standard level plot.
This study was conducted to find out the effect of slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, such as latex coated urea(LCU) and Meister10(MS10) on direct seeded rice in dry soil(DS). Junghwabyeo, and early maturity rice cultivar was grown on the plots which were treated with None-nitrogen. urea. LCU and MS10 plot. Growth characteristic, yield and yield components were investigated. Nitrogen uptake-efficiency and physico-chemical properties of soil before-after experiment were analyzed. Plant height and number of tillers $m^{-2}$ in LCU and MS10 plot at early grow stages were higher than those in urea plot. Plant height and number of tillers $m^{-2}$ grown on the plot of Ms10 plot were higher than those of LCU plot. The number of seedling $m^{-2}$ were no significant differences among None-N, urea, and MS10 plot in DS. Heading date and leaf color were higher with Urea than LCU and MS10 plot. Culm length in LCU and MS10 plot were longer compared with urea plot, but panicle length was similar among with Urea, LCU and MS10 plot. Number of panicles $m^{-2}$ was greater in order of MS10 > LCU > Urea plot. Yield were greater in order of MS10 > LCU > Urea plot. Nitrogen uptake and nitrogen efficiency were greater in order of MS10 > LCU > urea plot. After the experiment, total content of nitrogen in soil was not changed at all treatments, but pH, P and Si of soil were lower than those of before experiment at all treatments.
This study was conducted to find out the effect of slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, such as latex coated urea(LCU) and Meister10(MS10) on direct seeded rice in flooded soil(FS). Junghwabyeo, and early maturity rice cultivar grown on the plots which were treated with None-nitrogen, urea, LCU and MS10 plot. Growth characteristic, yield and yield components were investigated. Nitrogen uptake-efficiency and physico-chemical properties of soil before-after experiment were analyzed. Plant height and number of tillers $m^{-2}$ in LCU and MS10 plot at early grow stages were higher than those of Urea plot. MS10 and LCU plot showed similar tendency on the plant height but MS10 plot was higher than LCU plot on the number of tillers $m^{-2}$. The number of seedling $m^{-2}$ were no significant differences among None-N, urea, and MS10 plot. Heading date and leaf color were no significant differences among None-N, urea, and MS10 plot. This study was conducted to investigate effects on the co-situs application of coated urea complex fertilizer in dry seeded rice in Dukpyong series soil. Number of spikelet established in 15 days after seeding, conventional plot was $120ea\;per\;m^2$. and whole layer placement(WLP), co-situs application 70%(CSA70%) plot and co-situs application 50%(CSA50%) plot were 146, 126 and $120ea\;per\;m^2$, respectively. There was not concentration obstacle in co-situs application plot in spite of closing application between seed and coated urea complex fertilizer. The amount of $NH_4-N$ into soil solution in different growth stage was highest in WLP 70% plot compare to other treatment. N uptaken amount was highest in CSA 70% plot as $94kg\;ha^{-1}$ compare to $90kg\;ha^{-1}$ of WLP 79% plot and $82kg\;ha^{-1}$ of CSA 50% plot. However, N use efficiency of CSA 50% plot was highest among treatments as 48%. Rice yield was highest in CSA 70% plot as 102% compared to conventional plot.
Growth and anatomical responses of rice and barnyardgrass(Echinochloa crus-galli) to oxyfluorfen were examined under various growing conditions in a greenhouse. With foliar application at 0.08kg ai/ha 7 days after seeding or transplanting, oxyfluorfen completely reduced the shoot and root growth of barnyardgrass under all growing conditions. However, oxyfluorfen reduced the growth of direct seeded and transplanted rice by 0~64% and 0~12%, respectively. Phytotoxic effect on rice growth, with respect to plant height and shoot fresh weight, was more pronounced under water(53~63%) than under dry-condition(16~33%), and in broadcast-seeded(34~62%) than in drill-seeded rice(16~33%). Anatomical changes of epidermal and vascular bundle sheath cells of rice leaves were not induced by oxyfluorfen, but mesophyll cells were partially ruptured and total leaf thickness was reduced. Oxyfluorfen, however, constricted and ruptured mesophyll and vascular bundle sheath cells and severely reduced leaf thickness of barnyardgrass under all growing conditions examined. These anatomical changes were more severe under dry- than under water-seeded condition.
This study was carried out to provide basic information for mass breeding and cultivating the saplings of Camellia japonica. The germination rates did not show definite tendency according to the changes of seed weight at room temperature and 4℃ dry storage conditions. The germination rate of 4℃ wet sand storage was increased with seed weight, but showed very low germination rate for 120 days of storage. The germination rate was above 80% in 60 days, 90 days and 120 days, respectively, at 4℃ wet filter paper storage conditions. The average days taken for those germinations were about 30 days at room temperature and 4℃ dry storage conditions, but wet storage (sand, filter paper) condition took the shortly nearly 13 days for those germinations. Leaf number, leaf dry weight, stem diameter and root dry weight were higher than total average by more than 1.21 g for seed weight. Stem length was higher than the average by more than 1.01 g, plant dry weight was higher than the average by more than 0.81 g, and stem dry weight was higher than the average by more than 0.61 g. In the case of seed weight becoming heavier, seedling growth was good but T/R ratio tended to decrease. In order to increase the mass production of seedlings using Camellia japonica seeds, we need to specify the weight and size of those seeds. The 4℃ wet filter paper storage condition was evaluated as the most efficient method for the seed storage used for seeding.
In order to get healthy seedling of rice suitable for rice transplanter, the growing characteristics of the seedling grown under different growing days and sowing densities were invesigated and the results obtained were summarized as follows; In the 20 days old seedling, the difference of growing state of seed ling and its characteristics between the two types of nursery bed was not found, but for the 30 days old seedling, both of the crop growth rate and the relative growth rate on the band-type nursery bed appeared higher than those on the mat-type nursery bed. And also, "the dry weight, the content of cardohydrate and the ratio of dry weight to plant height of the seedling grown on the band-type nursery bed were much higher than those on the mat-type nursery bed, however the amount of difference of seedling characteristics between two types of nursery bed was decreased for 40 days old seedling and leaf number was not increased. The amount of the seedling growth was increased with less density of sowing and for the difference between the higher and the less density, the difference getting bigger with the longer nursery days. The maximum density of sowing was approximately 200cc per nursery case on the band-type nursery bed and 250cc per nursery case on the mat-type nursery bed. It was seemed that the growing uniformity of the seedling grown on the mat-type nursery bed was better than that on the band- type nursery bed, As the coefficient of variation of the plant height and the leaf numbers of the seedling grown on the band- type nursery bed was higher than that on the mat-type nursery bed.
