유사운동과 유사량에 관한 연구 (Study on the Bed-Materials movement and Sedimentation.)

  • The observation and Studies on the two stations in the Ansung river are included that were justified types of Bed-materials movement and were estimated loads volume of sediment applied by sediment rating curve and/or drivel formulars according to both stream conditions. The results of evaluation for above purpose are given as follows 1) Drived formulas for sediment computation in accordance with river situations are given as follows. -Suspended load Yu-chun Ts=135H4.55 Hye-hwa Ts=454H3.71 -Bed load Yu-chun Tb=75.4H191 Hye-hwa Tb=134.5H1.82 2) Annual volume of surface erosion in the catchment area were obtained at yu-chun of 0.236mm Hye-hwa of 0.200mm and mean depth of 0.22mm 3) The Bed-materials movement with water depth were represented that ripple is bellow than 0.067 meter at yu-chun and bellow than 0.096 meter at Hye-hwa stream, Dunes is 0.067-0.22 at yu-chun and 0.096-0.23 at Hye-hwa, Transition is 0.22-0.46 at yu-chun and 0.23-0.58 at Hye-hwa and Antidunes is higher than 0.46 at yu-chun and 0.58 of water depth at Hye-hwa stream

  • In urban environments, the surface land impermeability fundamentally related to urban growth emphasizes the environmental problems such as the storm water peak flow (so-called the urban flooding) and the pollution. The conventional urban drainage system provides a number of temporary reservoirs intercepting and retaining surface-derived pollutants following their introduction to and deposition upon the impermeable surface. Gully-pots are common features in urban drainage systems in Korea, which were installed for draining rainwater to prevent regurgitation in rainy season and retaining larger particles, hence minimizing pipe blockage problems. When the road runoff conveying sediment enters a gully-pot, the sediment mixes with the gully liquor causing direct pollution of receiving waters. The characteristics of local sediment contamination are usually related to the types of land use activities that take place or have taken place within the area., This study was undertaken to evaluate the spatial and temporal variations of the contamination of gully-pot sediments in Seoul with respect to heavy metals such as As, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, Cu and Zn. The heavy metal data were examined according to the land use type. In this paper, sampling sites in Seoul were divided into six groups (commercial area, industrial area, residental area, motor way, rural area, and local pollution).

Distribution of Phytolacca americana in a coastal sand dune

  • This study examined the main factors affecting the distribution of Phytolacca americana, an exotic plant species in Korea, in coastal sand dunes. The areas examined from June 2004 to February 2006 were in Sindusagu where was located on Sindu-ri, Wonbuk-myen, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. The vegetation, sediment properties, sizes and ages of Robinia pseudoacacia, P. americana and Pinus thnunbergii and spatial distribution of P. americana were assessed. Firstly, correlation coefficients (CC) between P. americana's root biomass and sediment properties were not significant. Secondly, of the four community types, P. americana was not in the mixed herbaceous community and its density was the highest in the P. thunbergii-R. pseudoacacia and R. pseudoacacia community The Poisson distribution analysis revealed the distribution of P. americana to be severely clumped. The root biomass of P. americana and the basal area of R. pseudoacacia were significantly correlated, but the CCs between P. thunbergii and other two species were not significant. The ages of P. americana and R. pseudoacacia in a quadrat were significantly correlated. Thirdly, P. americana's ages in a quadrat were mostly similar to each other. Therefore, the spatial distribution of P. americana was largely influenced by R. pseudoacacia but not by the sediment properties, and plants in a narrow area were concurrently germinated.

Organic Carbon, Calcium Carbonate, and Clay Mineral Distributions in the Korea Strait Region, the Southern Part of the East Sea

  • This study presents results from a detailed sedimentological investigation of surface sediments obtained from the Korea Strait region, the southern part of the East Sea (Sea of Japan). The distribution of different types of bottom sediments is controlled by the recent fine-grained sediment transport and deposition combined with the lowerings of sea level during the last glacial period, forming a diverse mixture of organic-rich fine-grained and shelly coarse-grained sediments. In comparison to high organic concentration of fine-grained sediments in the inner continental shelf and slope areas, the shell-rich coarse-grained sediments on the outer shelf are discernible being further modified. These coarse-grained sediments are confirmed as relict resulting from the sediment dynamics during the lower sea levels of the last glacial period. Clay mineral distribution of the fine-grained sediments gives information about the transport mechanism. Presence of present-day current system (the Tsushima Warm Current) is most probable source for the fine-grained particles into the open East Sea from the East China Sea, indicating that Holocene sediment dynamics may be used to explain the observed distribution of surface coarse-grained shell-rich sediments.

마산만 퇴적층서 발달 특성 (Development of Sedimentary Sequence in the Masan Bay, South Sea of Korea)

  • We studied the bottom morphology and sedimentary environments of the Masan Bay using high-resolution Chirp seismic profiles and sediments data. According to deep-drilled core samples (up to 20 m thick) penetrated into the weathered rock basement, the sediments consist largely of three sediment types: the lower sandy gravel facies (Unit I) of 1-4 m in thickness, the middle sandy mud and/or muddy sand facies(Unit II) of 1-2 m thick and the upper mudfacies (Unit III) of over 10 m in thickness. The sedimentary column above the acoustic basement can be divided into two major sequences by a relatively strong mid-reflector, which show the lower sedimentary sequenc e(T) with parallel to subparallel internal reflectors and the upper sedimentary sequence(H) with free acoustic patterns. Acoustic basement, the lower sedimentary sequence (T), and the upper sequence (H) are well correlated with poorly sorted massive sandy gravels (Unit I), the sand/mud-mixed sediment (Unit II), and the muddy facies(Unit III), respectively. The acoustic facies and sediment data suggest that the Masan bay is one of the most typical semi-enclosed coastal embayments developed during the Holocene sea-level changes. The area of the Masan Bay reduced from about $19\;km^2$ in 1964 to about $13\;km^2$ in 2005 by reclamation, and its bottom morphology changed as a result of dredging of about $2{\times}10^7\;m^3$.

KATSTIC SINKHOLE SEDIMENTS OF DOLOSTONE IN THE UPPER MIDWEST'S DRIFTLESS AREA, USA

  • Analysis of one sinkhole, the Dodgeville sinkhole, developed in Ordovician dolostones in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin in the Upper Midwest'd Driftless Area reveals homogenous clayey sediment fills reflecting a range of dissolutional processes during the Quaternary or Pre-Quaternary. Granulometric analysis, graphical moments statistics, carbonate minerals, ana sand grain lithology were used to differentiate sinkhole sediment sources and modes of accumulation. Sediments in the dolostone sinkholes developed by dissolution. Sediments contain two major types of sediments : residual redish clay( autogenic sediments) and aeolian silt (allogenic sediments). The massive clay is generated from the weathered dolostone bedrocks as a in situ materials. The loessial silt is mostly derived from transportation of the surrounding surface materials, with some evidences of penetrated deposition. Unlike the collapsed sandstone sinkholes (Oh et al., 1993), dolostone sinkholes reveal homogenous, autogenic clay materials, and a geochemical composition indicative of in situ autogenic karstification. Dolostone sinkhole si1ts (26.9%) and sands (34.9%) are derived from weathered Plattevi1le-Galena dolostones, and contain high carbonate(37.5%), chert (57.2%) and lead ore (3%). Graphical moments statistics for sorting, skewness, and kurtosis indicate that sand grains from dolostones were derived entirely from local bedrock by in situ dissolution. Upper sinkhole sediments are pedagogically very young as carbonate is unleashed. Materials of the sinkhole sediment are definitely inherited from internal dolostones by dissolution and weathering, because not only a granulomatric comparison of dolostone and sandstone sediments demonstrates that they have heterogeneous paticle size distributions, but also 1ithologic analyses displays they differ completely.

서태평양 마샬제도 북서쪽에 위치한 세 해저산에 대한 음향상 연구 (Acoustic Characterization of Three Seamounts Located in the Northwest of Marshall Islands, Western Pacific)

  • 서태평양 마샬제도 북서쪽 오가사와라 균열대(Ogasawara Fracture, OFZ) 내에 위치하는 세 해저산들에 대해 2003년 망간각 탐사의 일환으로 고해상(3~7kHz) 천부퇴적탐사 자료를 포함한 지구물리 자료를 획득하였다. OFZ은 600 km의 우측방 이동(right lateral movement)을 보이고 축방향에 수직으로 150 km의 폭을 가지며 동 마리아나분지와 피가페타 분지를 분리한다. OFZ은 다른 균열대와는 달리 내부에 다량의 해저산들을 포함한다. OFZ 주변 해저산에서 획득한 음향상의 명확성 연속성 구조 지형 및 위치에 따라 총 가지로 분류하였다: 음향상Ⅰ-1 원양성 퇴적층(뚜렷한 표층반사파와 평행한 지층내 반사파를 갖음), 음향상Ⅰ-2 원양성 퇴적층(뚜렷한 표층반사파와 지층내 투명한 음향층이 존재), 음향상Ⅱ-1 화산 기저암(약한 표층반사파가 존재하고 지층내 반사파가 없음), 음향 상Ⅱ-2 debrite(불분명한 표층반사파와 지층내 투명한 음향층이 존재), 음향상 Ⅱ-3 원양성 퇴적층 혹은 저탁암 (불분명한 표층반사파와 연속적인 지층내 반사파가 존재함), 음향상 Ⅱ-4 저탁암(확산된 형태의 지층내 반사층이 존재함), 음향상 Ⅲ-1 reef build-up complex(작은 규모의 쌍곡선 형태의 표층반사파가 연결되어 나타남), 음향상Ⅲ-2 화산 기저암(큰 쌍곡선의 표층반사파가 다양한 수심에서 연결되어 나타남), 음향상Ⅲ-3 슬럼프(작은 규모의 블록형태나 쌍곡선 형태의 반사파들이 불규칙하게 보임). 해저산의 정상부는 음향상 Ⅰ-1,Ⅰ-2,Ⅲ-1이, 경사면을 따라 음향상 Ⅱ-1,Ⅱ-2,Ⅲ-3이, 분지에는 음향상Ⅱ-3,Ⅱ-4가 우세하게 분포한다 연구지역에서 음향상Ⅱ-2와 Ⅲ-3이 복합적으로 나타나는 사태의 원인은 (1) OFZ 내부에 존재하는 강한 장력에 의해 발생한 균열이나 단층, (2) 정상부에 발생한 단층과 급한 상부경사면일 것으로 추정된다. 해저산 정상부는 음향상 Ⅰ-1과Ⅰ-2가 구분되어 나타나는데, 음향상Ⅰ-2는 해류가 강하여 해류로부터 안정된 암초나 장애물 주위에만 간헐적으로 쌓인 형태이고, 음향상 Ⅰ-1은 해류가 약해지고 활발한 퇴적률을 보이는 시기에 쌓인 형태로 구분된다.

Plant Cells on Earth and in Space

  • Two quite different types of plant cells are analysed with regard to transduction of the gravity stimulus: (i) Unicellular rhizoids and protonemata of characean green algae; these are tube-like, tip-growing cells which respond to the direction of gravity. (ii) Columella cells located in the center of the root cap of higher plants; these cells (statocytes) perceive gravity. The two cell types contain heavy particles or organelles (sataoliths) which sediment in the field of gravity, thereby inducing the graviresponse. Both cell types were studied under microgravity conditions ($10^{-4}$/ g) in sounding rockets or spacelabs. From video microscopy of living Chara cells and different experiments with both cell types it was concluded that the position of statoliths depends on the balance of two forces, i.e. the gravitational force and the counteracting force mediated by actin microfilaments. The actomyosin system may be the missing link between the gravity-dependent movement of statoliths and the gravity receptor(s); it may also function as an amplifier.

주파수에 따른 감쇠계수 변화량을 이용한 해저 퇴적물 특징 추출 알고리즘 (Seabed Sediment Feature Extraction Algorithm using Attenuation Coefficient Variation According to Frequency)

  • 본 논문에서는 해저 퇴적물 분류를 위한 특징 추출 기법을 제안하고 검증한다. 기존 연구에서는 주파수의 영향이 없는 반사계수를 이용하여 퇴적물을 분류해 왔다. 그러나 해저 퇴적물의 음향 감쇠계수는 주파수의 함수이며 퇴적 성분에 따라 서로 다른 특성을 나타낸다. 따라서 주파수에 따른 감쇠계수 변화량을 이용하여 특징벡터를 생성하였다. 감쇠계수 변화량은 Chirp 신호에 의해 생성된 두 번째 층 반사신호를 이용하여 추정한다. Chirp 신호의 다중대역 특징이 다차원 벡터를 형성하기 때문에 기존의 방법에 비해 우수한 특성을 갖는다. 반사계수에 의한 분류 성능과 비교하기 위해 선형 판별 분석법 (LDA, Linear Discriminant Analysis)를 이용하여 차원을 축소하였다. Biot 모델을 이용하여 모의실험 환경을 구축하고 Fisher score와 MLD(Maximum Likelihood Decision)를 기반의 분류 정확도를 이용해 제안된 특징을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 제안된 특징은 반사계수에 비해 높은 변별력을 보이며, 측정 및 깊이 추정오차에도 강인한 특성을 보였다.

한국 서남해역 시아해의 조하대 저서동물 군집 (Subtidal Macrobenthic Community in Shia Sea, Southwest Coast of Korea)

  • 해남반도와 신안 및 진도 사이에 위치한 시아해에서 저서동물 주요 우점종, 군집 구조 및 분포 특성을 파악하고자 49개 정점을 설정하고 2001년 11월, 2002년 2월, 5월, 8월에 van Veen grab(채집 면적 $0.1m^2$)을 사용하여 각 정점당 2회씩 저서동물을 채집하였다. 퇴적상은 목포구와 인접한 내측해역은 muddy sandy gravel 퇴적상이, 조류가 강한 명랑수도와 인접한 지역은 gravel의 퇴적상이, 우이도 남측 해역에서는 sand muddy의 퇴적상이었다. 퇴적물내의 유기물 함량은 0.5~1.5%의 범위로서 평균 약 0.6%였다. 전 조사기간 동안 총 271종의 저서동물이 출현하였으며 다모류가 전체의 34%를 점유하여 가장 우점하였으며, 갑각류가 28%, 연체동물이 21%를 점유하였다. 평균 밀도는 $166ind.\;m^{-2}$였으며, 다모류가 약 40%, 갑각류가 26%를 차지하였다. 생체량은 평균 $29.2g\;m^{-2}$로서 연체동물이 44%였다. 입도가 세립한 신안군 압해도에서 입도가 조립한 진도군 외측 해역으로 갈수록 출현 종 수, 밀도 및 생체량이 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며 Bio-env 분석 결과 군집은 입도 조성과 유기물 함량에 따라 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 주요 우점종으로는 세립질 퇴적상에서는 Photis longicaudata, Septifer keenae, Maldane cristata, Lumbrineris longifolia, Heteromastus filiformis, Coptothyris grayi 등이었다. 집괴 분석 결과 4개의 정점군으로 구분되었으며 SIMPER 분석 결과 정점군 A에서는 Striarca symmetrica, 정점군 B에서는 Glycera chirori, 정점군 C에서는 Heteromastus filiformis, 정점군 D에서는 Latreutes planirostris가 유사도에 영향을 미쳤다. 이 연구결과로부터 시아해의 대형 저서동물 군집은 퇴적상과 이에 수반된 유기물 함량에 따라 영향을 받는 양호한 군집 특성을 보였다.
