  • As regulatory bodies require full implementation of security controls in nuclear power plants (NPPs), security functions for critical digital assets are currently being developed. For the ultimate introduction of security controls, not alternative measures, it is important to understand the relationship between possible cyber threats to NPPs and security controls to prevent them. To address the effectiveness of the security control implementation, this study investigated the types of cyber threats that can be prevented when the security controls are implemented through the mapping of the reorganized security controls in RS-015 to cyber threats on NPPs. Through this work, the cyber threat that each security control can prevent was confirmed, and the effectiveness of several strategies for implementing the security controls were compared. This study will be a useful reference for utilities or researchers who cannot use design basis threat (DBT) directly and be helpful when introducing security controls to NPPs that do not have actual security functions.

  • Recent massive data breaches or major security incidents show that threats posed by insiders have greatly increased over time. Especially, authorized insiders can cause more serious problems than external hackers can. Therefore there is a growing need to introduce a system that can monitor the insider threats in real time and prevent data breaches or security incidents in early-stage. In this paper, we propose a EITMS(Enterprise Insider-Threats Management System). EITMS detects the abnormal behaviors of authorized insiders based on the normal patterns made from their roles, duties and private activities. And, in order to prevent breaches and incidents in early-stage, a scoring system that can visualize the insider threats is also included.

  • South Korean national security strategy should be developed to effectively handle and counter increasing maritime threats and challenges. There are three major maritime threats South Korea faces today; maritime disputes on the EEZ boundary and Dokdo islet issues, North Korean threats, and international maritime security. Maritime disputes in the region are getting intensified and turned into a military confrontation after 2010. Now regional countries confront each other with military and police forces and use economic leverage to coerce the others. They are very eager to create advantageous de facto situations to legitimize their territorial claims. North Korean threat is also increasing in the sea as we witnessed in the Cheonan incident and Yeonpyoung shelling in 2010. North Korea resorts to local provocations and nuclear threats to coerce South Korea in which it may enjoy asymmetric advantages. The NLL area of the west sea would be a main hot spot that North Korea may continue to make a local provocation. Also, South Korean national economy is heavily dependent upon foreign trade and national strategic resources such as oil are all imported. Without an assurance on the safety of sea routes, these economic activities cannot be maintained and expanded. This paper argues that South Korea should make national maritime strategy and enhance the strength of naval forces. As a middle power, its national security strategy needs to consider all the threats and challenges not only from North Korea but also to maritime security. This is not a matter of choice but a mandate for national survival and prosperity. This paper discusses the importance of maritime security, changing characteristics of maritime threats and challenges, regional maritime disputes and its threat to South Korea's security, and South Korea's future security strategy and ways to enhance the role of naval forces. Our national maritime strategy needs to show middle and long term policy directions on how we will protect our maritime interests. Especially, it is important to build proper naval might to carry out all the roles and missions required to the military.

  • The stability and security management of IT data becomes more important because information security threats increases rapidly in Big Data era. The operational policy of the data backup considering information security threats is required because the backup policy is the fundamental method that prevents the damage of security threats. We present an economic approach for a data backup system with information security threats which damage the system. The backup operation consists of the differential backup and the batch backup. We present a stochastic model considering the occurrence of information security threats and their damage. We analyze the stochastic model to derive the performance measures for the cost analysis. Finally we analyze the average cost of the system and give numerical examples.

  • Present many organizations are introduced to smartwork for reducing the operational cost and getting the labor's flexibility. The smartwork is the future-oriented worker's environment in which they can engage in their task, anytime and anywhere conveniently and efficiently. In spite of many smartwork advantages, the security problems are major issues and prevent to introducing and spreading of smartwork for organizations. Therefore, the success of the organization for smartwork environment is put in place appropriate security control model. This study is about security threats for smartwork security control model. We apply the exploratory method for this research, which are reviewing, analyzing of literature for extracting the security threats and clustering of the extracted security threats. Finally we define the 16's security threats according to the aspect of smartwork service layers.

  • Recently, the Internet of Things is an important technology with a Cloud computing services and a Big data in the IT fields. and The Internet of Things is widely used in various industries. This trend may be referred to as the emergence of significant based technologies for realizing a ubiquitous times. But the security problems of Internet of things are expected to increase with being realized in a variety of industries. and it will be have to provide a corresponding technology to the security threat for this. Therefore, this paper will be analyzed to the security threats of the Internet of Things by the cases. Thereby this is expected to be utilized as a basis for the countermeasure of Internet of Things in a future.

  • With response to the critical issue of global warming, Smart Grid system has been extensively investigated as next efficient power grid system. Domestically, Korean is trying to expand the usage of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and the charging infrastructure in order to replace the current transportation using fossil fuels holding 20% of overall CO2 emission. The EVs charging infrastructures are combined with IT technologies to build intelligent environments but have considerable number of cyber security issues because of its inherent nature of the technologies. This work not only provides logical architecture of EV charging infrastructures with security threats based on them but also analyses security requirements against security threats in order to overcome the adversarial activities to Smart Grid.

  • Cybersecurity has been vital for decades and will remain vital with upcoming ages with new technological developments. Every new day brings advancement in technology, which leads to new horizons, and at the same time, it brings new security challenges. Numerous researchers around the globe are continuously striving hard to provide better solutions for the daily basis of new arising security issues. However, the challenges are always there. These challenges become new norms during the current Covid pandemic, where most industries, small industrial enterprises, education, finance, public sectors, etc. were under several attacks and threats globally. The hacker has more opportunities during the pandemic period by shifting most of the operations live. This research enlightened the several cybersecurity attacks and threats during this pandemic time globally. It provided the best possible recommendations to avoid them using the cyber awareness and with appropriately linked training. This research can provide a guideline to the above stated sector by identifying the related attacks.

  • Chatbot services are used in various fields in connection with AI services. Security research on AI is also in its infancy, but research on practical security in the service implementation stage using it is more insufficient. This paper analyzes the security requirements for chatbot services linked to AI services. First, the paper analyzes the recently published papers and articles on AI security. A general implementation model is established by investigating chatbot services provided in the market. The implementation model includes five components including a chatbot management system and an AI engine Based on the established model, the protection assets and threats specialized in Chatbot services are summarized. Threats are organized around threats specialized in chatbot services through a survey of chatbot service managers in operation. Ten major threats were drawn. It derived the necessary security areas to cope with the organized threats and analyzed the necessary security requirements for each area. This will be used as a security evaluation criterion in the process of reviewing and improving the security level of chatbot service.
