Proposed is an aero-acoustic performance prediction method of axial fan. The fan aerodynamic performance is predicted by combining pitch-averaged quasi 3-D flow analysis with pressure loss models for blade boundary layer and wake, secondary flow, endwall boundary layer and tip leakage flows. Fan noise is assumed to be radiated as dipole distribution type, and its generation is assumed to be mainly due to the vortex street shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex stree shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex street model with thin airfoil theory. The aero-acoustic performance prediction results by the present method are in good agreement with the measured results of several axial fans. With the present prediction method, parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of blade chord length and spacing on the efficiency and the noise level of fan. In the case of lightly loaded fan, both efficiency improvement and noise reduction can be achieved by decreasing chord length or by increasing blade specing. However, when fan is designed at highly loaded condition, the noise reduction by increasing blade spacing penalizes the attaninable efficiency of fan.

Incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $\varepsilon{-SST}$ turbulence model are adopted for the investigation of the flow fields between the square cylinder and the ground. When the grounds moves, the diminish of the shear layer intensity on the ground promotes the interaction between the lower and the upper separated shear layer of the cylinder. Hence vortex shedding occurs at the lower gap height than stationary ground. In the moving ground, the secondary shedding frequency disappears due to the absence of the separation bubble on the ground which exists in the stationary ground. In addition, the shedding frequency and aerodynamic coefficients in the moving ground become higher than those of the stationary ground.

Turbulent jet in a crossflow, issuing from a row of holes on a convex surface of 90 .deg. bend duct, is predicted by a 3-dimensional numerical method. The Cartesian coordinate system in adopted in upstream and downstream tangents and the cylindrical polar coordinate system in curved region. The Reynolds stresses and heat fluxes are obtained from a standard k-e model in the core region and van Driest model in the vicinity of the wall. The governing equations are discretized by a finite volume method and solutions are obtained by a locally elliptic calculation procedure. Pressure and convective terms are treated by SIMPLE algorithm and hybrid scheme respectively. A vortex initially induced by the injected jet has been built up due to the interaction with the secondary flow caused by pressure gradient and centrifugal force. The vortex structure has a strong influence on the wall cooling effectiveness. Another vortex like horseshoe is formed in the vicinity of the injection hole and its strength is getting weak as it moves downward.

The present numerical study is aimed to investigate time-dependent characteristics of a two-dimensional lid-driven square cavity flow of three high Reynolds numbers, $7.5{\times}10^3$, $10^4$ and $3{\times}10^4$. A conservative convection term on irregular grids was adopted by renewing the MAC type difference schemes on regular grids. Relaxation of velocity and pressure is implemented by SOLA algorithm. In case of $Re=7.5{\times}10^3$, flow behavior converges to steady state after a transient period. But for $Re=10^4$, periodic unsteady sinusoidal fluctuation of local velocity and kinetic energy is found and continuous movements of small eddies in the secondary flow regions are also discovered. Random generation of eddies and their active migrating behavior are detected for $Re=3{\times}10^4$, resulting in complete unsteady and non-linear flow characteristics. And, an organized structure similar to a Moffat vortex is also observed from the time-mean flow patterns. Furthermore, a typoon-like vortex(TLV) appears intemittently and rotates along the separation regions and boundary layers.
Leakage flow through turbine blade tip gap causes strong leakage vortex near the blade suction side and induces large aerodynamic losses. In this study, the conventional plane tip and various squealer tip blades were tested in a linear cascade in order to measure the effect of the tip shape on the total pressure loss. Three tip gap clearances of 0.6%, 1.3%, and 2.0% of blade span were tested. Flow measurement was conducted at one chord downstream from the trailing edge with a five-hole probe. Results showed that the leakage vortex was stronger than passage vortex and the mass averaged overall total pressure loss through the cascade was the lowest for suction side blade tip case. For all tested cases, the area averaged overall total pressure loss was increased as the tip clearance increased.
Since a small harbor is often located near surf zone areas which have great influences of sediment transport, there is a great possibility that the sediment will be deposited inside of the harbor. The sediment transport occurring around the harbor entrance can't be explained by the wind wave and wave induced current. In this study, it was investigated the mechanism of the entrainment of sediment into a small harbor with permeable breakwater using hydraulic experiments in 3D wave basin. It is found out that the significant sediment entrainment produced when the mode of oscillation in the harbor became the 1st mode. In the case where the incident wave period was shorter than the period that caused higher mode oscillation in harbor, only a little amount of sediment entrainment took place. The vortex shedding from the top of secondary breakwater played very important roll in the entrainment of sediment into the harbor. It is also found that the small jetty attached at the top of secondary breakwater could effectively prevent the entrainment of sediment into the harbor.

This paper represents the results of the experiments of the three-dimensional flow and the aerodynamic loss caused by the three-dimensional flow within the plane bucket blades. To research the secondary flow and the aerodynamic loss, the large-scale plane bucket blade of lst-stage in the low pressure steam turbine is made of FRP. The detailed investigation of the secondary flow and the aerodynamic loss using 5-hole pressure probe within turbine cascade has been carried out in the low speed wind tunnel. The limiting streamlines of the suction and endwall surface have been visualized by the oil film method. The flow visualization of the secondary flow has been performed by the laser light sheet technique and image processing system. By using the method mentioned above, it is possible to observe the evolution of the pitchwise mass-averaged flow deviation angle and total pressure loss coefficient, the secondary flow, and the aerodynamic loss through the cascade.
The present paper focuses on the analysis of aero-acoustics characteristic by several boundary conditions. In this simulation, a high-order and high-resolution numerical schemes are used for the accurate computation of compressible flow with several boundary conditions including characteristic boundary conditions as well as extrapolation and zonal characteristic boundary condition. These boundary conditions are applied to the computation of two dimensional circular cylinder flows with Mach number of 0.3 and Reynolds number of 400. The computation results are validated with measurement datum and other computation results for the Strouhal frequency of vortex shedding, the mean drag coefficient and root-mean-square lift for the unsteady periodic flow regime. Secondary frequency is predicted by three kinds of boundary conditions characteristic.
In this study, the effect of channel flow in the concave surface on local heat transfer characteristics of array jets was investigated experimentally. A TLC method is employed to determine local heat transfer coefficients on the target plate and also flow visualization has been conducted to investigate the behavior of a row of impinging jets and array of impinging jets. Two different array patterns of impinging array jets devices are tested for Reynolds number(Re=10,000). In a row of impinging jets, secondary vortex is strongly maintained by main vortex at nozzle-to-plate distance of H/d=2. Therefore, the Nusselt number slowly decreased at the mid-way region between adjacent jets. In array jets, the local maximum Nusselt number region move further in the downstream direction due to the increase of channel flow velocity.

Three-dimensional turbulent incompressible flow through the tip clearance of a linear turbine rotor cascade with high turning angle has been analyzed numerically. As a preliminary study to predict the tip clearance loss realistically, a generalized k-.epsilon. model derived by RNG (renormalized group) method is used for the modeling of Reynolds stresses to account for the strain rate of turbulent flow. The effects of the tip clearance flow on the passage vortex, the total pressure loss are considered qualitatively. The existences of vena contract and tip clearance vortex have been confirmed and it has been shown that as the size of the tip clearance increases, the accumulated flow through the tip clearance and the total pressure loss downstream of the cascade increase.
