An Improved Secondary Path Modeling Method by Modified Kuo Model

  • Kuo et al proposed an on-line method for an adaptive prediction error filter for improving secondary path modeling performance in the modeling method of the secondary path. This method have some disadvantages, namely having to use additive noise with the result that noise control performance is not good since it is focused on the estimated performance of the secondary path. In this paper, we proposes a modified Kuo model using gain control parameter and delay. It uses a reference signal for additive noise to improve the problems in the existing Kuo model.

  • In active noise control (ANC) systems, the error-reduction performance of the conventional Filtered-X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortions in the secondary path such as in the power amplifiers, loudspeakers and transducers. In this paper, a nonlinear FXLMS algorithm with high error-reduction performance is proposed to compensate for undesirable nonlinearities in the secondary-path of ANC systems by employing the inverse Volterra filtering approach. In particular, the proposed approach is based on the utilization of the conventional P-th order inverse approach to nonlinearity compensation in the secondary path of ANC systems. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields a better nonlinearity compensation performance for the ANC systems with a nonlinear secondary path than the conventional FXLMS.

  • In applications of adaptive noise control or active noise control, the presence of a transfer function in the secondary path following the adaptive controller and the error path, been shown to generally degrade the performance of the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm. Thus, the convergence rate is lowered, the residual power is increased, and the algorithm can become unstable. In general, in order to solve these problems, the filtered-x LMS (FX-LMS) type algorithms can be used. But these algorithms have slow convergence speed and weakness in the environment that the secondary path and error path are varied. Therefore, I present the new algorithm called the "Bi-directional Filtered-x (BFX) LMS" algorithm with nearly equal computation complexity. Through experimental study, the proposed BFX-LMS algorithm has better convergence speed and better performance than the conventional FX-LMS algorithm, especially when the secondary path or error path is varied and the impulsive disturbance is flow in.

  • In active noise control (ANC) systems, the convergence behavior of the conventional Filtered-X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortions in the secondary path (e.g., in the power amplifiers, loudspeakers, transducers, etc.), which may lead to degradation of the error-reduction performance of the ANC systems. In this paper, a stable FXLMS algorithm with fast convergence is proposed to compensate for undesirable nonlinear distortions in the secondary-path of ANC systems by employing the Volterra filtering approach. In particular, the proposed approach is based on the utilization of the conventional P-th order inverse approach to nonlinearity compensation in the secondary path of ANC systems. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields a better convergence behavior In the nonlinear ANC systems than the conventional FXLMS.

  • In an active noise control(ANC) system using the Filtered-X least mean square(LMS) algorithm, the online secondary path modeling method by exploiting a random noise generator is applied. This method is suitable for secondary path modeling. However, it is increased the residual error of the ANC system. In this paper, we presents an ANC system improved online secondary path modeling method which is modified Kuo and Zhang model that is the secondary path estimation by the additive noise. In addition, our proposed model is used that additive noise is transformed into the signal multiplied reference signal by gain control parameter and delayed.

  • 본 논문에서는 신경망을 이용한 새로운 비선형 능동소음제어 시스템(ANC; active noise control system) 을 제안하였다. 제안한 시스템에서는 2개의 다층신경망을 사용하여 제어기와 2차 경로의 모델을 구성하였으며, 특히 기존의 비선형 ANC와는 달리 2차 경로의 모델링이 온라인으로 수행되기 때문에 2차경로가 시변 시스템인 경우에도 적용이 가능하다. 제안한 방범을 비선형 시변 시스템에 대해서 모의 실험한 결과 좋은 소음감소 효과를 보여주었다.

  • In active noise control (ANC) system, the convergence behavior of the Filtered- X Least Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm may be affected by nonlinear distortion in the secondary path as in the power amplifiers (e.g., saturation), loudspeakers and transducers. This distortion may yields degrading the error reduction performance of the ANC systems. In this paper, the authors of this paper propose a more improved and stable FXLMS algorithm to compensate for the undesirable nonlinearity of the secondary-path, whereby the third-order Volterra model was employed for the identification of the nonlinear secondary-path. In particular, the proposed approach was based on the modification of the conventional FXLMS algorithm. Finally, the simulation results showed that the proposed approach yields better convergence property and more stable performance in the ANC systems.

  • Conjugate heat analysis on a high pressure turbine stage including secondary flow paths has been carried out. The secondary flow paths were designed to be located in front of the nozzle and between the nozzle and rotor domains. Thermal boundary conditions such as empirical based temperature or heat transfer coefficient were specified at nozzle and rotor solid domains. To create heat transfer interface between the nozzle solid domain and the rotor fluid domain, frozen rotor with automatic pitch control was used assuming that there is little temperature variation along the circumferential direction at the nozzle solid and rotor fluid domain interface. The simulation results showed that secondary flow injected from the secondary flow path not only prevents main flow from penetrating into the secondary flow path, but also effectively cools down the nozzle and rotor surfaces. Also thermal barrier coating with different thickness was numerically implemented on the nozzle surface. The thermal barrier coating further reduces temperature gradient over the entire nozzle surface as well as the overall temperature level.

  • The exhaust noise reduction of automobile with the active muffler is experimentally investigated. The control algorithm is the filtered-x LMS algorithm and the inverse algorithm with the adaptive line enhancer. Also, the control efficiency is increased with synthesized second harmonic engine frequency. In the experiment, the active muffler is applied to the end of exhaust system in automobile and the control with on-line secondary path modeling method(inverse algorithm) is compared the control of off-line secondary path modeling method. As secondary path transfer functions are changed, the experimental results show that the control performance with on-line method is more efficient than that with off-line method in the exhaust noise reduction of automobile.

  • In this paper, IIR structures are proposed to reduce the computation complexity of the secondary-pass estimation in active noise control(ANC) systems. However, there are stability problems of using IIR models to reduce the computation complexity in ANC systems. To overcome these problems, we propose a stabilizing procedure of recursive least mean squares (RLMS) algorithms for eatimating the parameters of IIR models of the secondary path transfer functions. The multichannel ANC systems are implemented by using the TMS320C6713 DSP board to test the performance of computation complexity and stability of the proposed methods. Comparing the IIR filters with the FIR filters, the IIR filters can reduce 50[%] of the computation and obtain similar noise reduction result.
