An advanced direct torque control (DTC) with pulse width modulation (PWM) method is presented in this paper. The duty ratio calculation of the selected voltage vector is based on the voltage functions of the selected voltage vector according to the sector angle. The proposed DTC uses a conventional DTC scheme with six sector divisions and switching rules. However, the winding voltages are supplied by the PWM approach. Furthermore, the duty ratio of the switching voltage vector is determined by the flux, torque error, and motor speed. The base voltage that shall determine the duty ratio can be calculated by approximate voltage functions according to the voltage angle. For the calculation of base voltages, second-order quadratic functions are used to express the output voltage of the selected voltage vector according to voltage angle. The coefficients for the second-order quadratic functions are selected by the voltage vector, which is determined by the switching rules of the DTC. In addition, the voltage functions are calculated by the coefficients and voltage angle between the voltage vector and rotor position. The switching voltages from the calculated duty ratio can supply the proper torque and flux to reduce the ripple and error. The proposed control scheme is verified through practical experimental comparisons.
A new dual-slope ramp (DSR) reset waveform is proposed to improve the dark room contrast ratio in AC-PDPs. The proposed reset waveform has two different voltage slopes during a ramp-up period. The first voltage slope is lower than the conventional ramp voltage slope, causing a reduction in the background luminance, whereas the second voltage slope is higher than the conventional ramp voltage slope, causing an increase in the background luminance. Thus, a bias voltage is also applied during the second voltage-slope period to adjust the background luminance and address discharge characteristics. As a result, the proposed dual-slope reset waveform can lower the background luminance, thereby improving the high dark room contrast ratio of an AC-PDP without reducing the address voltage margin

This paper represents the detection method of voltage disturbance for high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape using electromagnetically coupled coils. In order to detect the voltage as the superconductor transits from the superconducting state to the normal conduction state, voltage taps are widely used to get the voltage signal. And voltage taps are connected to data acquisition device via signal wires. However this new suggested method can detect the superconducting transition voltage without signal wires between voltage taps and data acquisition device by using electromagnetically coupled coils. This system consists of two electromagnetically coupled coils, the first coil to detect and transmit the voltage of HTS tape and the second coil to pick up the transmitted voltage from the first coil. By using this new suggested method, we can build the 'separated voltage-detection system'. HTS tape and first coil are located under liquid nitrogen vessel and the second coil is located under room temperature condition. In this paper, experiments are performed to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. As the result of the experiment, the separated voltage-detection system using electromagnetically coupled coils can successfully observe superconducting-normal transition of HTS tapes.
Objectives: In this paper, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor was investigated for degrading the dye Rhodamine B (RhB) in aqueous solutions. Methods: The DBD plasma reactor system in this study consisted of a plasma component [titanium discharge (inner), ground (outer) electrode and quartz dielectric tube], power source, and gas supply. The effects of various parameters such as first voltage (input power), gas flow rate, second voltage (output power), conductivity and pH were investigated. Results: Experimental results showed that a 99% aqueous solution of 20 mg/l Rhodamine B is decolorized following an eleven minute plasma treatment. When comparing the performance of electrolysis and plasma treatment, the RhB degradation of the plasma process was higher that of the electrolysis. The optimum first voltage and air flow rate were 160 V (voltage of trans is 15 kV) and 3 l/min, respectively. With increased second voltage (4 kV to 15 kV), RhB degradation was increased. The higher the pH and the lower conductivity, the more Rhodamine B degradation was observed. Conclusions: OH radical generation of dielectric plasma process was identified by degradation of N, N-dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, indicator of OH radical generation). It was observed that the effect of UV light, which was generated as streamer discharge, on Rhodamine B degradation was not high. Rhodamine B removal was influenced by real second voltage regardless of initial first and second voltage. The effects of pH and conductivity were not high on the Rhodamine B degradation.
Detailed pulse shape analysis of a Geiger-$M{\ddot{u}}ller$ counter is performed to understand the pulse shape dependence on operating voltage. New data is presented to demonstrate that not all pulses generated in a GM counter are identical. In fact, there is a strong correlation between the operating voltage and the pulse shape. Similar to detector deadtime, pulse shapes fall in three distinct regions. For low voltage region, where deadtime was reported to reduce with increasing voltage, pulse generated in this region was observed to have a fixed pulse width with a variable tail. The pulse width and fall time of the tail was observed to be a function of applied voltage; exponentially reducing with increasing voltage with an exponent of negative 6E-04 and 2E-03 respectively. The second region showed a pulse without any significant tail. During this time the detector deadtime was earlier reported to be at its minimum. The highest voltage region demonstrated a different deadtime mechanism where the second pulse was reduced in width. During this time the deadtime seemed to be increasing with increasing voltage. This data allows us to gain some unique insight into the phenomenon of GM detector deadtime not reported thus far.
Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have been receiving extensive research interest in high/medium-voltage applications due to its modularity, scalability, reliability, high-voltage capability, and excellent harmonic performance. Submodule capacitors are usually rather bulky because they have to withstand fundamental frequency voltage fluctuations. To reduce the capacitance of these capacitors, this study proposes a modified MMC with an active power decoupling circuit within each submodule. The modified submodule contains an auxiliary half bridge, with its capacitor split in two. Also, the midpoints of the half bridge and the split capacitors are connected by an inductor. With this modified submodule, the fundamental frequency voltage fluctuation can be suppressed to a great extent. The second-order voltage fluctuation, which is the second most significant component in submodule voltage fluctuations, is removed by the proper control of the second-order circulating current. Consequently, the submodule capacitance is significantly reduced. The viability and effectiveness of the proposed new MMC are confirmed by the simulation and experimental results. The proposed MMC is best suited for medium-voltage applications where power density is given a high priority.

We have measured terahertz electromagnetic pulses when DC voltage from V up to 90V is applied to the transmitter chip excited by femto-second laser pulse. The femto-second excitation laser pulse was injected to transmitter chip. Finally, we are observed the amplitude of electromagnetic pulse and variation of spectrum. Consequently, the amplitude of spectrum was increased to high frequency according to increase of voltage. At that time, the signal-to-noise rate(SNR) is increased from 250:1 to 10, 000:1.
This work presents a high efficiency phase shifted full bridge (PSFB) DC-DC converter for use in the second stage of a battery charger for neighborhood electrical vehicle (EV) applications. In the design of the converter, Lithium-ion battery cells are preferred due to their high voltage and current rates, which provide a high power density. This requires wide range output voltage regulation for PSFB converter operation. In addition, the battery charger works with a light load when the battery charge voltage reaches its maximum value. The soft switching of the PSFB converter depends on the dead time optimization and load condition. As a result, the converter has to work with soft switching at a wide range output voltage and under light conditions to reach high efficiency. The operation principles of the PSFB converter for the continuous current mode (CCM) and the discontinuous current mode (DCM) are defined. The performance of the PSFB converter is analyzed in detail based on wide range output voltage and load conditions in terms of high efficiency. In order to validate performance analysis, a prototype is built with 42-54 V / 15 A output values at a 200 kHz switching frequency. The measured maximum efficiency values are obtained as 94.4% and 76.6% at full and at 2% load conditions, respectively.
A offset compensated class A bipolar second-generation current conveyor (CCII) for high-accuracy current-mode signal processing was proposed. The CCII adopts two diode-connection transistor between voltage input and voltage output to reduce offset voltage. Experiments show that the proposed CCII has offset voltage of 0.05 ㎷, input impedance of 2 Ω and the 3-㏈ cutoff frequency of 30 MHz when used a voltage amplifier. The power dissipation is 6 ㎷.
The present work is concerned with the switching conduction characteristics of PI LB films in metal insulator metal sandwiches. By applying various DC voltage bias to MIM junctions, conduction characteristics of junctions can be changed between the high-voltage low-current(off) condition, the low-voltage high-current (on) condition and the medium(mid) condition. Switching conduction characteristics can be also observed in MIM junctions employing some aromatic compounds as insulators. Switching conduction characteristics is assumed to be owing to the existence of aromatic rings, space charge in films, impurities on metal-insulator interface, and difference in work functions of base and top electrodes metal. To study the conduction process of on, off, and mid conductions, we measured I-V, d$^{2}$V/d I$^{2}$-V characteristics of junctions with several different top electrodes under various temperatures. Small conductance changes of junctions can be measured by observing the second derivative, d$^{2}$V/dI$^{2}$, of I-V curve. A dynamical technique is used to get the second derivatives. That is, a finite modulation of the current is applied to the junctions and the second harmonic of the voltage is detected.
