In this paper, the similarity criterion and dimensionless conversion method combined with the elasticity condition and Hooke's law are used to derive the functional relationship of the maximum effective value of the vibration velocity between the prototype pump and the model pump. The seawater circulation pump of a nuclear power plant is used as the prototype pump, and the model pump is obtained by performance conversion and choosing the appropriate scale, and the vibration state of the model pump under different flow rates is measured and analyzed. The vibration data of the model pump through the function relationship to find out the vibration parameters of the prototype model pump, and compare with the vibration data of the seawater circulation pump in reality. It can be seen that with the increase of flow rate, the maximum effective value of the vibration velocity of both model and prototype decreases and then increases, and the relative error is small, the maximum value is 7.7757%. Therefore, it can be considered that the functional relationship of model pump converted to prototype pump derived in this paper can be used to analyze the vibration of the actual seawater circulation pump of coastal nuclear power plant.

The performance characteristics of heating and cooling operation for a heat pump system using seawater heat source and exhaust energy are presented. The heat pump system is made of a waste heat recovery system and a vapor compression refrigeration system. The working fluid is R-22. The heat pump system COPs are measured during heating and cooling operation modes, and the resultant COPs were 9.7 and 7.9, respectively, which are three times higher than those of the heat pump itself. Therefore, the performance of the heat pump system using exhaust energy is excellent compared to that of a general heat pump. The experimental data can be effectively used for the design of the high efficient heat pump using a seawater heat source.

A seawater pumps in the nuclear power plant is responsible for providing cooling water to other components all the time. Because of the depreciation, the seawater pump with current impeller consumes too much power for maintaining the total head. Therefore the objective of this study is to reduce power with maintaining certain the total head by cutting the current impeller. By using a commercial CFD code, FLUENT, the overall performance of seawater pump with current and modified impeller was simulated. Also Affinity law was applied at pumps with various impeller diameter and evaluated the validity of the affinity law. The numerical results show that the pump efficiency is quite irrelevant to the diameters of the impellers and the pump efficiency becomes worse over the designed flow rate. And affinity law result and numerical one show good agreements at small change of impeller diameter. One of the impeller diameters was decided to modify and was applied to the nuclear power plant with the numerical study above.
In this study, the seawater Heat Pump System using seawater with temperature of annual domestic conditions ($0^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$) is designed in order to compare its performance against the Heat Pump using unused heat of seawater. As a potential replacement for current refrigerants that exacerbate global warming and ozone delpetion, a Low GWP refrigerant's performance is analyzed. The basic water to water Heat Pump system is chosen and three commercial refrigerants - R134a, R410a, R32 - are used to compare against new Low GWP refrigerant R1234ze. When seawater with temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ is used, the performance change showed maximal increase in COP, 38.3%. low GWP refrigerant R1234ze, showed great performance characteristics reach to 5.242 and Existing commercial refrigerant, R134a showed only less than 0.03 performance difference against R1234ze. The study confirms notable performance of R1234ze refrigerant through simulation as environmentally friendly refrigerant for domestic seawater Heat Pump.

The freeze desalination cycle with seawater heat pump system is simulated and designed for the basic data for the design of freeze desalination system. The basic model of seawater heat pump system is refrigeration cycle and indirect freeze desalination method is used for seawater desalination. The cycle performance of seawater heat pump such as COP, compressor work, condensing capacity was analyzed and the desalination performance such as fresh water productivity and energy per unit fresh water productivity was compared with respect to the seawater temperature of condenser inlet and ice ratio in the evaporator. The compressor work and condensing capacity decreased with respect to the decrease of seawater inlet temperature. The energy per unit fresh water productivity in case of $8^{\circ}C$ seawater inlet temperature showed 28.9% lower than that of $20^{\circ}C$.

Seawater lift pump systems are responsible for maintaining open canal levels to provide the suction flow of circulating water pumps at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump (for seawater lifting), investigate the new impeller modeling method, and performance improvements of the impeller by using a commercial CFD code. The rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with a flow rate of 2,700 m3/h. A finite volume method with a structured mesh and realized k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guarantee a more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The performance variables such as the static head, brake horsepower, and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared based on changes in the impeller blade shape.

The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump(for seawater lifting) by inverse design and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3/h$. Finite volume method with structured mesh and Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the reference data. Also, the periodic condition calculation method for the mixed flow pump was carried out in order to investigate the pump performance characteristics with the modification of impeller geometry.
The fresh water and sea water in present ships is used as cooling water for marine engine. Therefore, corrosion damage in seawater system is frequently occurred. In particular, in the impeller of pump, the performance and material span due to the corrosion and cavitation erosion has adverse effects. Most of the pump impellers in vessels are used Cu-Al alloy. Cu-Al alloy which having the excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance is widely used in marine environments. However, despite the excellent characteristics, the periodic replacement parts due to the cavitation damage in seawater is vulnerable to economic viewpoint. In this study, Cu-Al alloy used with impeller for centrifugal pump were conducted various experiments to evaluate its characteristics in seawater and fresh water solutions. As an electrochemical result, the dynamic conditions that exposed to the cavitation environment presented high corrosion current density with collapse of the cavity compared with the static conditions. Cavitation test results, the weightloss and weightloss rate in fresh water are observed more than those of seawater.
In this study, in order to utilize the seawater as a heat source at Gangneung city near the East Sea in Korea, an annual heating performance of a screw heat pump was simulated. For a simulation, the maximum heating capacity of heat pump was assumed at 3.5 MW. An ambient temperature at Gangneung city was calculated from the TMY2 weather data, while the seawater temperature was calculated from the regression equation based on the measurement by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute of Korea. The heating load was assumed linearly dependent on the ambient temperature, while the maximum heating load was assumed to appear when the ambient temperature is below $-2.4^{\circ}C$, which is the temperature of TAC 2.5% for heating at Gangneung city. A heat pump performance at full-load was calculated from the regression equation, which involves refrigerant's evaporating and condensing temperatures, based on a commercial screw compressor performance map. A heating supply temperature which determines refrigerant's condensing temperature was assumed linearly dependent on the heating load. A performance degradation due to the part-load operation of heat pump was also considered. Simulation results show that an annual heating coefficient of performance ($COP_H$) of a seawater-source screw heat pump is approximately 2.8 and that it is necessary to improve part-load performance to increase an annual performance of the heat pump.
