Rule-based Semantic Search Techniques for Knowledge Commerce Services (지식 거래 서비스를 위한 규칙기반 시맨틱 검색 기법)

  • This paper introduces efficient rule-based semantic search techniques to ontology-based knowledge commerce services. Primarily, the search techniques presented in this paper define rules of reasoning that are required for users to search using the concept of ontology, multiple characteristics, relations among concepts and data type. In addition, based on the defined rules, the rule-based reasoning techniques search ontology for knowledge commerce services. This paper explains the conversion rules of query which convert user's query language into semantic search words, and transitivity rules which enable users to search related tags, knowledge products and users. Rule-based sematic search techniques are also presented; these techniques comprise knowledge search modules that search ontology using validity examination of queries, query conversion modules for standardization and expansion of search words and rule-based reasoning. The techniques described in this paper can be applied to sematic knowledge search systems using tags, since transitivity reasoning, which uses tags, knowledge products, and relations among people, is possible. In addition, as related users can be searched using related tags, the techniques can also be employed to establish collaboration models or semantic communities.

Effect of Caching and Prefetching Techniques to Accelerate Channel Search Latency in IPTVs

  • Due to the recent advances in high-speed communication technologies as well as the easy production of high-quality video contents, IPTV is becoming increasingly popular. Meanwhile, as the number of IPTV channels increases, channel search time to find the desired channel keeps increasing. In this paper, we discuss how to improve the channel search latency in IPTV, and introduce caching and prefetching techniques that are widely used in memory management systems. Specifically, we adopt memory replacement, prefetching, and caching techniques in IPTV channel search interfaces and show the effectiveness of these techniques as the number of channels are varied.

  • When the volume of data grows big, some simple tasks could become a significant concern. Nearest neighbor search is such a task which finds from a data set the k nearest data points to queries. Locality-sensitive hashing techniques have been developed for approximate but fast nearest neighbor search. This paper introduces the notion of locality-sensitive hashing and surveys the locality-sensitive hashing techniques. It categories them based on several criteria, presents their characteristics, and compares their performance.

  • Various techniques have been applied to solve the maximal covering problem. Tabu search is also one of them. But, existing researches were lacking of the synthetic analysis and the effort for performance improvement about neighborhood search techniques such as hill-climbing search and simulated annealing including tabu search. In this paper, I introduce the way to improve performance of neighborhood search techniques through various experiments and analyses. Basically, all neighborhood search algorithms use the k-exchange neighborhood generation method. And I analyzed how the performance of each algorithm changes according to various parameter settings. Experimental results have shown that simple hill-climbing search and simulated annealing can produce better results than any other techniques. And I confirmed that simple hill-climbing search can produce similar results as simulated annealing unlike general case.

  • Job shop scheduling with m different machines and n different jobs is a NP-hard problem of combinatorial optimization. The purpose of the paper is to develop the heuristic method using tabu search for job shop scheduling to minimize makespan or mean flowtime. To apply tabu search to job shop scheduling problem, in this paper we propose the several move methods that employ insert moves in order to generate the neighbor solutions, and present the efficient rescheduling procedure that yields active schedule for a changed operation sequence by a move of operations. We also discuss the tabu search techniques of diversifying the search of solution space as well as the simple tabu search. By experiments, we find the appropriate tabu list size and tabu attributes, and analyze the proposed tabu search techniques with respect to the quality of solutions and the efforts of computation. The experimental results show that the proposed tabu search techniques using long-term memory function have the ability to search a good solution, and are more efficient in the mean flowtime minimization problem than in the makespan minimization.

  • This study is to suggest the usefulness of visualization techniques to display web retrieval results. We described the concept of visualization techniques and evaluated the usability for the SearchCrystal and KartOO search engines which provide visualization techniques for displaying the retrieval results. As a result, Searchcrystal search engine had higher score than KartOO system in terms of usability check lists.

  • In the Web 2.0, besides more gaining information on the web, the number of web sites that take advantage of RSS increases explosively. Commonly each users search RSS channels through the web search engine before registering RSS channel's url to the RSS reader. Users judge whether the site is RSS channel or not and register an RSS channel's url through theirs interests. Because accomplished by users themselves, those processes conflict to user's convenience and quick consumption of information. Techniques of current search engines can't provide users with reliable RSS feed information as search results. In this paper, we analysis appropriateness of current search engines' techniques that offer users RSS feed search service and discuss their limitations. Also, we make up RSS feed database through classification of RSS tag being possible to search RSS feed information effectively and apply update rate of each RSS channel's feed to ranking algorithm providing more reliable search results.

Binary Visual Word Generation Techniques for A Fast Image Search (고속 이미지 검색을 위한 2진 시각 단어 생성 기법)

  • Aggregating local features in a single vector is a fundamental problem in an image search. In this process, the image search process can be speeded up if binary features which are extracted almost two order of magnitude faster than gradient-based features are utilized. However, in order to utilize the binary features in an image search, it is necessary to study the techniques for clustering binary features to generate binary visual words. This investigation is necessary because traditional clustering techniques for gradient-based features are not compatible with binary features. To this end, this paper studies the techniques for clustering binary features for the purpose of generating binary visual words. Through experiments, we analyze the trade-off between the accuracy and computational efficiency of an image search using binary features, and we then compare the proposed techniques. This research is expected to be applied to mobile applications, real-time applications, and web scale applications that require a fast image search.

Effective Web Crawling Orderings from Graph Search Techniques (그래프 탐색 기법을 이용한 효율적인 웹 크롤링 방법들)

  • Web crawlers are fundamental programs which iteratively download web pages by following links of web pages starting from a small set of initial URLs. Previously several web crawling orderings have been proposed to crawl popular web pages in preference to other pages, but some graph search techniques whose characteristics and efficient implementations had been studied in graph theory community have not been applied yet for web crawling orderings. In this paper we consider various graph search techniques including lexicographic breadth-first search, lexicographic depth-first search and maximum cardinality search as well as well-known breadth-first search and depth-first search, and then choose effective web crawling orderings which have linear time complexity and crawl popular pages early. Especially, for maximum cardinality search and lexicographic breadth-first search whose implementations are non-trivial, we propose linear-time web crawling orderings by applying the partition refinement method. Experimental results show that maximum cardinality search has desirable properties in both time complexity and the quality of crawled pages.

  • This Paper Presents a efficient algorithm for loss reduction of distribution system by automatic sectionalizing switch operation in distribution systems of radial type. To apply tabu search to reconfiguration of distribution system, in this Paper we Propose the several move methods and efficient reconfiguration procedure. We also discuss the tabu search techniques of diversifying the search of solution space as well as the simple tabu search. The experimental results show that the proposed tabu search techniques have the ability to search a good solution.
