  • The growth of Bacteroides fragilis was inhibited by combination of natural products bearing antioxidative capacity and combined two, three and four kinds of them. Bacteroides fragilis was controlled by Paeonia Japonica, Corni Fructus, Theae Folium, Coptidis Rhizoma alone, and two mixed combinations of Paeonia japonica and Scutellaria Baicalensis George, Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Schizandrae Fructus, Schizandrae Fructus and Theae Folium, Schizandrae Fructus and Corni Fructus, Schizandrae Fructus and Crataegi Fructus, Paeonia japonica and Schizandrae Fructus, and three mixed combinations of Paeonia Japonica and Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Schizandrae Fructus, Paeonia Japonica and Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Crataegi Fructus, Paeonia Japonica and Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Corni Fructus, and four mixed combinations of Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Crataegi Fructus and Corni Fructus and Schizandrae Fructus, Scutellaria Baicalensis George and Crataegi Fructus and Corni Fructus and Theae Folium. As these combinations of natural products will activate some parts of body, theymay be applied to pharmaceutical applications, functional foods, antiaging tea, alsoexpected to control bacterial growth for fermentative beverage bearing multifunction.

  • Compositions of four kinds of products inhibit aging and protect many kinds of disease through eliminating. These compositions inhibit growth of harmful bacteria. such as Bacteroides fragilis. Clostridium perfringens. Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes. Vibrio parahaemolyticus etc. Bacteroides fragilis was controlled by mixing SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+CRATAEGI FRUCTUS+PAEONIA JAPONICA+SCHIZANDRAE FRUCTUS. SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+CRATAEGI FRUCTUS+PAEONIA JAPONICA+CORNI FRUCTUS. etc. and Clostridium perfringens was SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+PHELLODENDRI CORTEX+EPIMEDII HERBA+ASTRAGALI RADIX. SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+EPIMEDII HERBA +ASTRAGALI RADIX+GLYCYRRHIZAE RADIX.ste. Listeria monocytogenes was NELUMBO NUCLFERA GAERTNER+SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+COPTIDIS RHIZOMA+PAEONIA JAPONICA, NELUMBO NUCLFERA GAERTNER+SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS GEORGE+COPTIDIS RHIZOMAtSOPHORAE FLOS. etc. and Vibrio parahaemolyticus was ACANTHODANACIS CORTEX +ASTRAGALI RADIX+PHELLODENDRI CORTEX+COPTIDIS RHIZOMA ACANTHODANACIS CORTEX +ASTRAGALI RADIX + PHELLODENDRI CORTEX+PAEONIA JAPONICA. We expected it as a functional food economical and easy type of taking.

  • Methanol extract (1.0 wt%) of Scutellaria baicalensis George satisfied preservation standard of CTFA (The Cosmetics, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association) against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans and Escherichia coli which were inoculated in skin lotion. Even at a low concentration (0.01 wt%) the extract showed high superoxide dismutase-like activity. The CTFA standard could also be satisfied for the above four strains when methanol extract of Liriope platyphylla were combined with the 1.0 wt% extract of S. baicalensis George. This result suggests that extract of L. platyphylla does not hinder the preservation activity of S. baicalensis George. Moreover, skin moisture content could be maintained for 6 hours after the application of a cream containing the extract of L. platyphylla.

  • This study was investigated to find out the optimum planting densities of Scutellaria baicalensis GEORGE about growth characters, yield components and yield at 3 planting densities by direct sowing cultivated after barley Stem length was long In dense planting of 20$\times$10cm and short in spacious planting of 30$\times$10cm and 40$\times$10cm by direct sowing cultivated after barley. Stem diameter was thick in spacious planting of 30$\times$10cm and 40$\times$10cm and was thin in dense planting of 20$\times$cm by direct sewing cultivated after barley. Length and dry weight of root per plant were decreased in dense planting of 20$\times$10cm and were increased in spacious planting of 30$\times$10cm and 40$\times$10cm by direct sowing cultivated after barley. Yield of dry root was highest in optimum planting density(30$\times$10cm:33 plants/$m^2$) by direct sowing cultivated after barley. The correlation coefficient between number of planting plant and stem length showed highly positive correlation. These characters of stem diameter, number of branches, main root length and yield of dry root mentioned above showed negative correlations with planting plants.

  • This study was carried out to find out favorable soil conditions to give good quality of Scutellaria baicalensis George for Korean medicine. The samples were collected from the 7 fields of An-dong gun and Eui-sung gun. The plants were grown under soils of different physicochemical properties and the available constituents from their roots were analyzed by HPLC. The average N, P, K contents in roots was determined to be 0.28-1.26%, 0.17-0.46% and 1.00-1.49%, respectively. The baicalin contents of root was determined to be 11.41-14.76% (An-dong gun) and 13.67-16.31% (Eui-sung gun). The contents of N, P in root were negatively correlated with the contents of exchangeable cations (K, Ca, Mg), clay and organic matter in soil, whereas it was not significant with the contents of total nitrogen and available phosphorus of surface soils. The baicalin contents was positively correlated with the exchangeable potassium contents in soil, but negatively correlated with nitrogen and phosphorus contents in the root of Scutellaria baicalensis George.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effects of fertilizer application amounts on the root yield and the available constituents contents in root of Scutellaria baicalensis George. The baicalin contents decreased when nitrogen was applied at 18Kg/10a, but were not effected by P and K application. The contents of fructose, glucose and sucrose increased as applying P nutrient, but decreased with N application. The contents of ash, ethanol extract were not effected by fertilizer application, but acid-insoluble ash contents decreased as the N and P application increased. The root yield increased when nitrogen and potassium were applied at 12Kg/10a and 6Kg/10a, respectively.
