Controlling effect of several surfactants on barley powdery mildew (pathogen : Erysiphae graminis) and those influence on fungicidal activity by tank-mixing with commercialized fungicides were investigated in greenhouse test with barley seedlings. While protective activity of PNPP showed 90% at $1,000{\mu}g/mL$, that of LN 13.0 91.2%, tile best among 8 surfactants used in curative test. With $500{\mu}g/mL$, LN 13.0 showed 4% of disease percentage on the first leaf of narley continuously 4 days after the curative application. Excent for PNPP, the other surfactants, including NP 13.0, LN 13.0, and PAS, showed good inhibitory activity against spore germination in water agar medium amended with those surfactants. PAS, which showed very poor effect against barley powdery mildew in greenhouse test, strongly inhibited spore germination. Fungicide of triadimefon and triforine showed no controlling activity against Erysiphae graminis in narley seedlings, but they highly controlled powdery mildew in case of addition with $500{\mu}g/mL$ of LN 13.0 and Tween 20. SP 13.0, NP 13.0, LN 13.0 and DBC showed severe phytotoxicity in first leaf of barley seedlings, but Tween 20, SLIS, PAS, and PNPP not at $1,000{\mu}g/mL$.

Background : To control ginseng gray mold, farmers have mainly used inorganic chemical based fungicides. The recent emergence of fungicide resistance has reduced the effectiveness of such control methods. Such pesticides also carry additional problems, such as diffuse pollution. Methods and Results : Six treatments of organic agricultural materials were tested for control of ginseng gray mold, CAPW (Chrysophanic acid + Phytoncide + Wood vinegar), EmEWV (Emodin + Ethanol + Wood vinegar), CEWV (Curcumin + Eugenol + Wood vinegar), Bacillus subtilis, soybean oil and sulfur. The control effect for gray mold by a single application of the agrochemical fungicide industrial Fenhexamid wettable powder (WP) was 84.4%. The control effect by CAPW, EmEWV and CEWV varied between 52.7 - 64.9%. The control effect by B. subtilis, soybean oil, and sulfur were 32.9 - 59.2%. Conclusions : In the field tests, CAPW showed the highest control effects when used before, and at first stage of disease incidence, against ginseng gray mold.

The main purpose of this study was to treat pica in a 2.8 year old child with severe mental retardation along with autistic tendencies. His developmental age ranged from 12 to 15 month on the DDST and he had no means of communication. He was on Tegretol 200mg for seizure control. His pica involved thumb sucking, putting toys into his mouth, and licking furniture wherever he went Besides pica, he had a rumination problem. The treatment strategies for his pica consisted of two phases : In phase 1, The child was taught toy play through a 3-step guided compliance training, while his pica and rumination behaviors were recorded to investigate whether active toy play could effect any change in the untreated pica and rumination behaviors of this child. In phase 2, a facial screening was used as a means to control his pica, while his rumination was recorded to see whether controlling his pica could bring any change in the untreated ruminating behavior. The results showed that the facial screening was very effective in decreasing his pica from an average of 18.6 times per 15 minute in the baseline to 2.3 times post-treatment. Response covariation was observed across pica and rumination while toy play compliance training alone was being conducted, and covariation across rumination was observed while pica alone was being treated with facial screening.

The importance of aviation safety has been emphasized recently due to the development of aviation industry. Despite the efforts of each country and the improvement of screening equipment, screening tasks are still difficult and detection failures are frequent. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of feedback on improving signal detection performance applying a Simulated Baggage Screening Program(SBSP) for improving aviation safety. SBSP consists of three parts: image combination, option setting and experiment. The experimental images were color-coded to reflect the items' transmittance of the x-rays and could be combined as researchers' need. In the option, the researcher could set up the information, incentive, and comments needed for training to be delivered on a number of tasks and times. Experiment was conducted using SBSP and participant's performance information (hit, missed, false alarms, correct rejection, reaction time, etc.) was automatically calculated and stored. A total of 50 participants participated and each participant was randomly assigned to feedback and non-feedback group. Participants performed a total of 200 tasks and 20(10%) contained target object(gun and knife). The results showed that when the feedback was provided, the hit, correct rejection ratio and d′ were increased, however, the false alarms and miss decreased. However, there was no significant difference in response criteria(${\beta}$). In addition, implications, limitations of this study and future research were discussed.

Low temperature is one of the most severe abiotic stress factors limiting growth, productivity and distribution of winter cereals. Reliable field screening method, which can detect small differences in winter survival, is important for the effective selection and development of plants to identity superior cold tolerant winter cereal genotypes. This study was undertaken to provide improved screening method of winter hardiness in the field by increasing the accuracy in evaluating winter hardiness of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). We introduced furrow in field screening of winter survival. By sowing the plants at the ridge and base, we could minimize the effect of topographic variation in a field by giving higher and lower level of stress at the same time. This method could be used by breeders to conduct accurate evaluation of winter hardiness by selecting the better treatment, which shows close to normal distribution, among the winter survival rate from the ridge, base and mean survival rate of the two in a screening field.

Objectives: To review the status of newborn hearing screening (NHS) and to investigate the effect of the examiners on NHS tests to help the quality control of NHS at a general hospital in a city. Methods: The charts of newborns from January 2015 to March 2016 and from August 2016 to October 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. We compared the results of tests performed by several examiners(group 1) with those performed by one audiologist (group 2) using the same automated auditory brainstem response test. Results: The screening rate and referral rate were not significantly different between group 1 and group 2. The confirmatory test rate was higher in the group 2, but it was not significant. In group 1, the number of tests performed 3 or more times in one ear at one time was significantly higher. The number of tests performed in only one ear at one time was higher in group 2. The screening rate within one month after birth was 64.21%, referral rate was 7.32%, confirmatory test rate within 3 months after birth was 21.74%, and the prevalence of hearing loss was 1.46%. Conclusions: There was no significant difference of results depending on the examiners. In order to make proper screening test, it is necessary to periodically educate the examiner and to instruct the examiner by the supervisor doctors.

Piping failures due to thermal fatigue have been widely reported in normally stagnant non-isolable reactor coolant branch lines. Since the thermal fatigue due to thermal stratification was not considered in the piping fatigue design in old NPPs, it is important to evaluate the effect of thermal stratification on the integrity of branch lines. In this study, geometrical screening criteria for Up-horizontal branch lines in MRP-132 were applied to SI(Safety Injection) lines of KSNP 2-loop and WH 3-loop. Some computational fluid dynamic(CFD) analyses on the Reactor Coolant System(RCS) branch lines were also performed to develop the regulatory guidelines for screening criteria. As a result of applying MRP-132 screening criteria, KSNP 2-loop and WH 3-loop SI lines are determined to need further detailed evaluation. Results of CFD analyses show that both valve isolation and amount of leakage through valve can be used as technical bases for the screening criteria on the thermal fatigue analysis.
Despite the impressive antitumor activity of cisplatin, two major limitations of the drug, that is severe side effects and drug-resistance of cancer cells, make its use difficult of r cancer therapy. These limitations have resulted in a greate deal of effort having been expended into structural modifications of cisplatin. In this study, we tested two novel cisplatin analogues, (CPA)2 Pt[DOLYM] (COMP-I) and (DACH)Pt[DOLYM] (CoMP-II), for the mode of cytotoxic action against human tumor cells comparing with cisplatin and carboplatin in vitro. These two novel analogues had considerable cytotoxic activities against five kinds of human solid tumor cells, and especially COMP-II was more effective on HCT15 colon cancer cells than other compounds. In addition, COMP-II had cytostatic activity at low concentrations (10~0.3${\mu}g/ml$), but other compounds revealed little effect on tumor growth at the low concentration.

Background: Breast cancer incidence is increasing among South Asian migrants to the United States (US). However, their utilization of cancer screening services is poor. This study characterizes attitudes of South Asians towards breast health and screening in a community sample. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) was conducted among South Asians (n=124) in New Jersey and Chicago. The following beliefs and attitudes towards breast cancer screening were assessed-health motivation, breast self-examination confidence, breast cancer susceptibility and fear, and mammogram benefits and barriers. Descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation coefficients were computed for HBM subscales. Findings: Mean age of participants was 36 years with an average 10 years stay in the US. Most women strived to care for their health ($3.82{\pm}1.18$) and perceived high benefits of screening mammography ($3.94{\pm}0.95$). However, they perceived lower susceptibility to breast cancer in the future ($2.30{\pm}0.94$). Conclusions: Increasing awareness of breast cancer risk for South Asian women may have a beneficial effect on cancer incidence because of their positive attitudes towards health and breast cancer screening. This is especially relevant because South Asians now constitute one of the largest minority populations in the US and their incidence of breast cancer is steadily increasing.
Chlorinated phenols are widely used by the chemical industry as intermediate products in synthesis and previously were frequently applied to various industry fields. Peroxidases catalyze the peroxide-dependent oxidation of a range of inorganic and organic compounds. Peroxidase was shown to mineralize a variety of recalcitrant aromatic compounds and to oxidize a number of polycyclic aromatic and phenolic compounds. Among monomeric phenolic and nonphenolic compounds, peroxidase is known to oxidize its compounds. In this study, a colorimetric assay was developed to quantitatively evaluate the peroxidase activity for rapid screening. Color products of different intensity were developed proportionally to the peroxidase activity on agar plate and 96-well plate. This method correlates well with the RP-HPLC result. Using this screening method, 12 colonies of strain was screened which survived at high concentration of 2,4-DCP (1000 ppm) and with peroxidase activity for the $7^{th}$ round screening step on agar plate. These strains were utilized 2,4-DCP as a sole carbon source and produced peroxidase. After the screening test, four of the bacteria have significant better effect of COD removal on dye waste-water. COD removal of these was from 44% to 61%, respectively.
