  • This study was to investigate the effects of concentration of malt extract in Sikhye manufacture on saccharification time, shapes of saccharified rice(the cooked rice) and sensory evaluation score of Sikhye. The optimum concentration of malt extract to reduce saccharification time and to keep desirable shapes of saccharified rice was 4 times (rice 24g, malt 28g and D.W. 240ml) as suitable as base composition formula(rice 6g, malt 7g and D.W. 240ml). The shapes of saccharified rice were influenced by the concentration of malt extract, the saccharification time and the shapes of steamed rice before saccharification. A good taste(softness) of Sikhye rice and the desirable shapes of saccharified rice were more suitable in the case of a small amount of unsaccharified starch than in the case of finishing saccharification. The optimum saccharification time to keep the desirable shapes of saccharified rice was 240min and also was desirable between 210 and 270min. To keep a good taste(softness) and the desirable shapes of saccharified rice, and to reduce the manufacturing time, it is desirable to in mass production of Sikhye add 3 times more water after making Sikhye in the ratio of rice 24g, malt 28g and water 240ml. In this case the whole amount will become 4 times as much as the original one.

  • The pumb gene encoding a basic amino acid transport protein in Neurospora crassa could be cloned by using a mutant strain defective in pmb gene as a host strain, using a negative selection on the media containing amino acid analogue canavanine. To select positive transformants of the genes for cloning, an auxotrophic marker (his-2) was added to a pmb mutant strain by mating ; a triple mutant (pmn : pmb : his-2) was constructued by crossing a strain defective in basic amino acid transport system (# 1683-bat um 535 "A") to a double mutant strain defective in neutral amino acid transport and histidine production (mitrol : his-2 "a"). Crossing was performed on synthetic crossing (SC) media containing histidine. The pmn : pmb and pmn :pmb : his-2 strains were selected among the progeny colonies from crosses on plates containing 5- .mu.g/ml para-fluoro-phenylalanine (PFPA), 200 .mu.g/ml canavanine, and 500 .mu.g/ml histidine. The selected colonies were cultured on minimal media with or without histidine for discarding pmn : pmb strain, because the pmn : pmb : his -2 strain grows only on histidine containing media. The pmn :pmb : his-2 strain selected can be used as a host strain for the cloning of the pmb and the pmn genes from a Neurospora genomic library by means of positive selections.

  • Background: Epidural opioids are commonly used for postoperative analgesia. However, the side effects of epidural opioids include respiratory depression, sedation, pruritus, nausea, vomiting and urinary retention. Meperidine, due to its intermediate lipid solubility and local anesthetic properties, permits postoperative analgesia. The aim of this study was to compare meperidine alone to meperidine coupled with bupivacaine, and to determine the effects of epidural meperidine without bupivacaine, when used for epidural analgesia following hepatectomy abdominal surgery. Methods: Patients received thoracic epidural analgesia with meperidine alone (3.5 mg/ml in saline) or with additional bupivacaine (0.15%) for 2 days after surgery. Postoperative pain was assessed using a visual analog scale (VAS) pain score 2 days after the operation, with the incidence and dose supplementation also evaluated. Postoperative side effects were assessed using a 3 grade system. Results: No significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of age and weight, or in the pain scores, side effects, incidence and dose supplementation. Conclusions: 3.5 mg/ml epidural meperidine at a dose of 2 ml/hr provides effective postoperative analgesia.

  • Stellate ganglion block is a selective sympathetic blockade affecting the head and neck, and the upper extemity. It is an important method which has been used most frequently in neuro-pain clinic due to its wide range of indications. The authors attermpted to define the minimal volume of local anesthetic which need for successful stellate ganglion block by using 1% mepivacaine HCl mixed with dye. In 40 heathy volunteers, two different volumes, 3 ml in the group 1 (n=20) and 4 ml in the group 2 (n=20), were injected by an anterior paratracheal technique at the sixth cervical vertebral level. We compared the degree in sympathetic blockade by clinical sings and symptoms and also checked the spread range of dye by plain X-ray. With seven criteria for an effective block. mean score was 5.7 in group 2, while 3.4 in group 1. These results suggest that 4 ml of local anesthetic are adequate for a successful stellate ganglion block.

  • Eight 2-yr old bulls from Artificial Breeding Center, NLCF were used to determine the effectof collection frequency on semen characteristics and sexual activity. Two successive ejaculates per day were collected by artificial vagina for 4 weeks on weekly or twice a week. Total ejaculate volume included 2nd ejaculates for one time and two time bulls was 6.8ml and 6.0ml, but there was no significant difference between collection intervals. Sperm concentration of one time and two time bulls averaged 0.79$\times$109/ml and 0.89$\times$109/ml, respectively. Total sperm per ejaculate was 5.14$\times$109 for one time bulls and 5.45$\times$10 for two time bulls. Two time bulls had slight more sperm per ml and ejaculate than one time bulls, but there were no significant differences between two group bulls. Sperm motility and semen pH of two time bulls was slightly better than that of one time bulls. In changes of bulk minerals in semen, solium concentration of two time bulls was similar to that of one time bulls. Potassium and calcium was more concentrated in one time bulls than in two time bulls, but these concentrations did not differ significantly. Libido score for two time bulls was higher than that for one time bulls. However, there was no difference between two groups and these scores did not change for 4 weeks in two goups. Total time to 2nd ejaculation was 16.3 sec for one time bulls and 20.5 sec for two time bulls.

  • Coreference resolution is to identify mentions in documents and is to group co-referred mentions in the documents. It is an essential step for natural language processing applications such as information extraction, event tracking, and question-answering. Recently, various coreference resolution models based on ML (machine learning) have been proposed, As well-known, these ML-based models need large training data that are manually annotated with coreferred mention tags. Unfortunately, we cannot find usable open data for learning ML-based models in Korean. Therefore, we propose an efficient coreference resolution model that needs less training data than other ML-based models. The proposed model identifies co-referred mentions using random forests based on sieve-guided features. In the experiments with baseball news articles, the proposed model showed a better CoNLL F1-score of 0.6678 than other ML-based models.

  • The selection and recommendation of a suitable job applicant from the pool of thousands of applications are often daunting jobs for an employer. The recommendation and selection process significantly increases the workload of the concerned department of an employer. Thus, Resume Classification System using the Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques could automate this tedious process and ease the job of an employer. Moreover, the automation of this process can significantly expedite and transparent the applicants' selection process with mere human involvement. Nevertheless, various Machine Learning approaches have been proposed to develop Resume Classification Systems. However, this study presents an automated NLP and ML-based system that classifies the Resumes according to job categories with performance guarantees. This study employs various ML algorithms and NLP techniques to measure the accuracy of Resume Classification Systems and proposes a solution with better accuracy and reliability in different settings. To demonstrate the significance of NLP & ML techniques for processing & classification of Resumes, the extracted features were tested on nine machine learning models Support Vector Machine - SVM (Linear, SGD, SVC & NuSVC), Naïve Bayes (Bernoulli, Multinomial & Gaussian), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Logistic Regression (LR). The Term-Frequency Inverse Document (TF-IDF) feature representation scheme proven suitable for Resume Classification Task. The developed models were evaluated using F-ScoreM, RecallM, PrecissionM, and overall Accuracy. The experimental results indicate that using the One-Vs-Rest-Classification strategy for this multi-class Resume Classification task, the SVM class of Machine Learning algorithms performed better on the study dataset with over 96% overall accuracy. The promising results suggest that NLP & ML techniques employed in this study could be used for the Resume Classification task.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Sumsu (Bufonis venenum) pharmacopuncture on insomnia and depression. Methods : We investigated 32 patients with a sleep disorder who had been recruited at a Korean medical hospital from March $1^{st}$, 2014 to April $16^{th}$, 2015. We divided subjects into two groups : The control group(N=15) was treated with Normal Saline and the experimental group(N=17) was treated with Sumsu(Bufonis venenum) pharmacopuncture. The subjects were injected with 0.05 ml~0.1 ml, for a total of 0.6 ml on each acupuncture point. These were Pungbu ($GV_{16}$), Pungi ($GB_{20}$), Gyeonjeong ($GB_{21}$), and Anmyun(EX-$HN_{20}$). Both groups were evaluated with the beck depression inventory(BDI) and given an insomnia score before treatment, after one week, two weeks and four weeks from the initial visit. Results : The Insomnia score and BDI decreased significantly in the experimental group. In comparing the control group with the experimental group, there was a more significant improvement of the insomnia score in the experimental group during all periods of this study. However, the difference of change in BDI between the control group and experimental group was only significant in the first week. Conclusions : Sumsu (Bufonis venenum) pharmacopuncture can be used as an effective treatment for patients with insomnia and depression.
