Analysis on Characteristic of Elementary Science-Gifted Education Winner Programs in Gifted Education Database Focusing on Scientific Creativity (과학적 창의성 관점에서 살펴본 영재교육종합 데이터베이스(GED)의 초등 과학영재교육 프로그램 특징 분석)

  • This study analyzes the characteristic of elementary science-gifted education winner programs in Gifted Education Database (GED) focusing on scientific creativity. For this purpose, an analysis framework to analyze the programs was developed and a total of 840 inquiry activities from 55 winner programs were analyzed according to the analysis framework. The analysis of the results reveal that 'scientific inquiry skill' of the five scientific creativity components was most frequently included in the activities. 'Scientific knowledge content' and 'creative thinking' were also frequently included. However, 'problem solving ability' and 'common factor' were a little included. In the aspects of integration, the integrations between two or three components with five or eight types were frequently found. No integrations were also frequently included although less than the previous categories. The integrations among four with four types or five components were also slightly found. 'Scientific knowledge content', 'scientific inquiry skills', and 'creative thinking' with other components were more frequently found. However, the integrations of 'common factor' or 'problem solving ability' with the other components were less frequently found. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

An Analysis of Content and Convergence Method of Scientific Technology and Humanities in Elementary School STEAM Programs (과학기술과 인문학 융합 내용 및 융합 방법 실태 분석 -초등학교 융합인재교육(STEAM) 프로그램 개발 과제를 중심으로-)

  • This study aims to analyze the content and methodological aspects of converging scientific technology and humanities in 233 elementary school STEAM programs developed and publicized from 2012 to 2015, to provide the basic materials and implications for editing and supplementing the development of future STEAM programs or policies, or on-site applications of developed programs. The analysis results show that among the Liberal Arts courses of the STEAM program, including Korean, Social Studies, and Ethics, the level of convergence was lowest in Ethics. This seems to be due to the fact that convergence between scientific technology and humanities tended to emphasize a cross-studies convergence over a content convergence done with a specific purpose. In terms of methodological convergence between scientific technology and humanities, the level of convergence of humanities at a normative level was relatively lower than that at a descriptive level. Although a quantitative comparison of the two methods was not significant, it is rather concerning that due to simply converging descriptive humanities, students may not be so aware of the double-sidedness of scientific technology, despite the discovery of some programs that need re-evaluations of their ethical or normative directions. Moreover, the results showed that the cases of converging scientific technology and humanities at a normative level that were analyzed in the STEAM program can be divided into 'complementation of humanities to utilizing scientific technology' and 'complementation of humanities to research in scientific technology and development.' Based on such research results, the study discusses the development of STEAM programs and policies and directions for editing and supplementing programs on-site.

  • The article is assigned to a prelude to the joke of effective pedagogical technologies in professional education in the minds of її continuity. Analyzed the definitions "innovation", "technology", "pedagogical technology", "Innovation pedagogical technology". Blocks have been added, which are stored in innovation processes in the light. The significant role of innovation in education is stated. Presented warehouses pedagogical technologies: conceptual, conceptual-processual and professional. The purpose of introducing innovative technologies into the educational process of vocational education institutions has been clarified. The reasons for finding and implementing innovative pedagogical technologies in education are analyzed.

Study of the organic and mineral composition of living pupae of the wild silkworm Saturnia pyri for use as food additives

  • The article presents the results of the content of the chemical and biochemical composition of the pupa of the wild silkworm Saturnia pyri belonging to the family Saturniidae, species of Lepidoptera. The nutritional value of silkworm Saturnia pyri pupae was evaluated, which contained 51% dry matter, 52.50% crude protein, 27.89% fat, 10.50% chitin fibers, 2.5% ash and 27 macro- and microelements and 25 mg alpha tocopherols in 100 g oil. The X-ray fluorescence method was used to determine the content of mineral elements in the pupa of the silkworm Saturnia pyri. It was revealed that the pupa of this type of silkworm contains 25 elements, of which the relative amount of K, Mg, Na, Ca, Al is much higher than other elements.

Performance Evaluation of Recommendation Results through Optimization on Content Recommendation Algorithm Applying Personalization in Scientific Information Service Platform (과학 학술정보 서비스 플랫폼에서 개인화를 적용한 콘텐츠 추천 알고리즘 최적화를 통한 추천 결과의 성능 평가)

  • In order to secure the convenience of information retrieval by users of scientific information service platforms and to reduce the time required to acquire the proper information, this study proposes an optimized content recommendation algorithm among the algorithms that currently provide service menus and content information for each service, and conducts comparative evaluation on the results. To enhance the recommendation accuracy, users' major items were added to the original algorithm, and performance evaluations on the recommendation results from the original and optimized algorithms were performed. As a result of this evaluation, we found that the relevance of the content provided to the users through the optimized algorithm was increased by 21.2%. This study proposes a method to shorten the information acquisition time and extend the life cycle of the results as valuable information by automatically computing and providing content suitable for users in the system for each service menu.

Comparative Analysis of the Presentation of the Nature of Science (NOS) in Korea and US Elementary Science Textbooks (한국과 미국 초등학교 교과서에 나타난 과학의 본성 비교 분석)

  • The national reform document, Science for All Americans (AAAS, 1990), and the Next Generation Science Standards (NRC, 2012) emphasize the importance of the nature of science in guiding science educators in accurately portraying science to students. Therefore, it is important that textbook materials convey an accurate conception of the nature of science. This study employs content analysis to examine the content of textbooks in US and Korea elementary science textbooks with regard to the four aspects of the nature of science: (a) nature of scientific knowledge; (b) nature of scientific inquiry; (c) nature of scientific thinking; and (d) nature of interactions among science, technology, and society (Chiappetta, Fillman, & Sethna, 2004). Intercoder reliability was determined by calculating Cohen's kappa (Cohen, 1960). Findings show that while US elementary science textbooks are not balanced in presenting the four aspects of the nature of science regardless of the publishing companies, the presentation of the nature of science in Korean elementary science textbooks have better balanced treatment of the four themes across the grade levels. On the other hand, both US and Korean elementary science textbooks are attempting to convey an idea of what science is by emphasizing scientific knowledge and investigation.

Analysis of Elementary Students' Interlanguage in Science Class about Heat and Temperature (열과 온도 수업에서 나타난 초등학생들의 중간 언어 분석)

  • For effective science learning, teachers need to rearrange scientific language so that students can understand the contents with their incomplete language resources. Interlanguage is the interplay between everyday language and scientific language. The purpose of the study was to analyze the patterns of interlanguage during 4th grade science class to learn "Heat and Temperature" and to find the features of meaning sharing inside classroom in which a teacher and students participated. The data analysis shows that elementary students' interlanguage has different features compared to scientific language that involves passive voice and content-specialized nouns. Students' interlanguage implied the quality of class community's knowledge-sharing, according to the degree of how students can connect scientific language and everyday language in more effective ways. The implication to elementary science education was discussed.

  • Scientific methods for grading urushi lacquer includes general properties (viscosity, pH etc), and quantitative analysis of moisture, urushiol, gum, laccase content etc, and properties of coating layer such as set to touch drying time, gloss, color difference, delamination strength, tensile strength of film. The grading results evaluated by scientific method showed n order with chinese urushi lacquer (E) > domestic urushi lacquer (A) > japanese urushi lacquer (C) > chinese urushi lacquer (D) > domestic urushi lacquer (B). It is different from hose of traditional methods. Therefore, a more accurate grading of urushi lacquer should be ade by combining traditional method with scientific method.

A Study on the Preferable Motivation Types in Science Learning of the Secondary School Students (과학 학습시 중.고등학생들이 선호하는 동기 유형에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the preferable motivation types in science-learning and to find out the relationship between these types and scientific achievement of students in the secondary school. The subjects of the study were the second grade 581 students sampled by random cluster sampling method in three middle schools and three high schools. Three motivation types in science learning were analyzed, and they were named to task-orientation, ego-orientation and work-avoidance. From our results, secondary school students preferred task-orientation and work-avoidance to ego-orientation. In the case of task-orientation, high school students, especially in male group, had much preferable tendency than that of middle school students (p<0.001). It is interpreted that, as the level of scientific content of texts or the cognitive level of students were higher, a preference for the motivation type was focused to the task-orientation, especially in male group. In the case of ego-orientation, the female group showed much preferable tendency than that of male group in middle school (p<0.05). However, the female group in high school students was not different from the other groups in this motivation type. In the case of work-avoidance, there were not only a significant difference between males and females in the middle school (p<0.001), but also difference between middle and high school students in female group (p<0.05). It showed that female group had much preferable tendency than that of male group, and this tendency was decreased to the higher grade students in secondary school. From the analysis of correlation between motivation types and scientific achievement, task-orientation and work-avoidance were correlated to the scientific achievement. Its results were interpreted that the scientific achievement could be accomplished by the external motivation stimulus as well as the scientific content of texts. The task-orientation were comparatively correlated to the intelligence quality. It means that the students having high intelligence quality showed much preferable for the task-orientation.

Determination of Trace Metals in Formula Feed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (원자흡광 분광광도계에 의한 사료중 중김속의 정량)

  • The quantities of chrome, lead, iron, copper and manganese in the formula feed were determined by A.A.S. and the results were summarized as follows 1. The content of chromium in the leather and meat meals(SN-2) were 13-66 times as much as the level of permission. 2. In the meantime, lead content in the meat meal (SN-1) was about 20 times as much as permitted level. 3. The iron which is essential constituent of the formula feed was contained in the meat and leather meals and these values were 2-10 times as much as feeding regulations, on the contrary copper and manganese content in the shaving and flesh were below the feeding regulations.
