  • e-Science is a new paradigm to increase the research efficiency by applying the state-of-the-art information technology to the classical research methodology. Among the research fields influenced by e-Science, Biology and Bioinformatics are the fields that are using IT very actively. And virtual screening, a procedure for the drug discovery, is one of the bioinformatics applications which requires a large amount of computing resources. In this paper, WISDOM, which is a e-Science project to design a new drug for Malaria and Avian flu, and related projects are introduced and the joint research between KISTI and Chun-nam university planned for the virtual screening research is explained.

A Semantic Content Retrieval and Browsing System Based on Associative Relation in Video Databases

  • In this paper, we propose new semantic contents modeling using individual features, associative relations and visual features for efficiently supporting browsing and retrieval of video semantic contents. And we implement and design a browsing and retrieval system based on the semantic contents modeling. The browsing system supports annotation based information, keyframe based visual information, associative relations, and text based semantic information using a tree based browsing technique. The retrieval system supports text based retrieval, visual feature and associative relations according to the retrieval types of semantic contents.

  • KISTI collects the scientific and technical articles published in Korea and builds the Korean STI database for scientists. The number of papers exceeds one million. To improve the search efficiency of the database additional processing is required. Abstracting, classification, indexing and extracting is a traditional processing method adding value to information. Indexing and classification are useful tool to assist efficient retrieval. In this paper, authors propose a method to improve information retrieval efficiency by assigning classification code and index terms to records of Korean STI database.

  • 신기술 정보를 모니터링하고 신규 아이템을 탐색하는 활동은 R&BD 활동 중에서 가장 중요한 활동이다. KISTI는 신기술 모니터링 및 탐색을 지원하기 위한 정보포털 '미리안'을 운영 및 서비스하고 있다. 미리안은 과학기술 전 분야에 대해 글로벌동향모니터링 정보, 최신기술에 대한 심층분석정보, 과학기술정책정보 등의 콘텐츠를 서비스하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 1) 미래유망기술발표 및 해당 기술의 서비스 탑재, 2) 정보 수요조사를 통한 서비스 기획 및 구현, 3) 개인화 맞춤형 신기술 모니터링 체제로 이어지는 미리안 서비스 체제에서 두 번째 단계에 해당하는 '신기술 정보 수요조사' 결과와 이의 서비스 적용 사례를 제공함으로써, 수요자 맞춤형 신기술 정보제공 체제 구축 사례를 제시하고자 한다. 신기술 정보 수요자의 특성을 심층분석하여 개인화 서비스 기획에 활용하기 위한 후행 연구가 추진중이며, 이를 통해 이용자 니즈를 파악하여 서비스를 선제안하는 인텔리전트 서비스가 가능할 것으로 보인다.

  • Assuring that the integrity of digital contents is reliably maintained is an important component of long-term digital preservation. The purpose of this study was to examine and analysis the best practices of digital preservation policy and provide the basis theory for establishing a preservation policy for maintaining the integrity of digital contents. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we examined the digital archiving practices for maintaining the integrity of digital contents. Especially, we focused on the storage media and file formats, the media and format conversion, disaster prevention and recovery, management and handling, inspection and monitoring, and security policies.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 과학기술정보서비스에 대한 고객만족도를 기반으로 하여 충성고객을 예측할 수 있는 모델을 구축하는 것이다. 이를 위해 정보서비스를 경험한 최근 1년이내 한국가과학기술전자도서관(NDSL : National Digital Science Library)사이트를 이용한 회원을 대상을 조사를 하였으며, 조사목적은 NDSL 서비스의 추천지수 측정을 통하여 추천, 비추천 사유를 파악하기 위함이다. 조사방법은 전화조사(Telephone Interview)로 진행하고 표본 수는 500명의 의사결정자를 대상으로 측정하였다. 고객충성도는 NPS(Net Promoter Score, 순고객추천지수) 이론에 근거하여 하였다. 연구결과 고객만족도 수준에 따라 비추천고객, 추천고객을 예측할 수 있는 모델을 구축하였다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 인터넷 등 정보의 발달로 고객의 긍정적 또는 부정적인 구전이 급속도로 노출되는 환경에서 고객의 만족도를 관리함으로써 충성고객을 확보하는데 사전 예측자료로 활용될 수 있다.

  • Recently, as diffusing knowledge-based information society, creation and information literacy of knowledge information is being important factor. Specifically, with increasing of science-technology information and information needs of science-technology information users are becoming segment and specialization. Also, study results of science-technology being used instantly in industry field and because of impact on industry development, science-technology information is growing rapidly. Therefore, customer-oriented system building is important. So, The purpose of this paper is to analyze and describe the characteristics of information needs and using behavior of science-technology information users of the KISTI.

Study of Dark Matter at e+e- Collider using KISTI-5 Supercomputer

  • Dark matter is barely known because it cannot be explained using the Standard Model. In addition, dark matter has not been detected yet. It is currently being explored through various ways. In this paper, we studied dark matter in an electron-positron collider using MadGraph5. The signal channel is e+e- → 𝜇+𝜇-A' where A' decays to dimuon. We studied the cross-section by increasing the center-of-mass energy. Central processing unit (CPU) time of simulation was compared with that using a local Linux machine and a KISTI-5 supercomputer (Knight Landing and Skylake). Furthermore, one or more cores were used for comparing CPU time among machines. Results of this study will enable the exploration of dark matter in electron-positron experiments. This study also serves as a reference for optimizing high-energy physics simulation toolkits.

  • With the development of information communication technology, the demands for various, profound and advanced information on science and technology and the necessity for establishing science and technology information infrastructure with the aim of future oriented industry are ever increasing. Advanced countries are providing material property DB as well as bibliographic DB though the Internet. Establishment and dissemination of bibliographic DB at domestic is properly settled but research on material property DB is much to be desired. Accordingly, development and research on material property DB to construct the information infrastructure in science and technology are highly necessary. In this study, we have developed superconducting materials property DB which is highly advanced industry field in future. We provide the thermal and mechanical, and superconducting property data for oxide superconductors, and the database is designed by bibliographic information, material information and material property information section.
