Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigated the dietary habits of students in order to identify risk groups according to their Body Mass Index (BMI), and to compare the eating behavior of students in the normal range (19${\le}$24) and those in risk groups (BMI${\le}$19, 24${\le}$27, BMI>27). Method : 1176 elementary school students, 850 middle school students and 672 high school students in Wonju City, were the participants The instrument for this study was a structured questionnaire that included demographic data as well as dietary habits, and the eating behavior instrument developed by Stunkard & Messick(1985) and revised by Kim & Kim (1997). Result : 1) As students moved up ingrade level their dietary habits became more irregular and the degree that students chewed food was reduced 2) As students moved up in grade level, a greater number of the student did not eat breakfast. The reasons given were that there were not enough time before classes started(40.4%) and a lack of appetite in the morning(10.6%) in high school students. 3) As for supper, from 67.8 to 81.9% of subjects reported having regular supper. However the rest of the subjects did not eat supper because of anorexia and fear of weight gain. 4) The results identified risk groups according to their BMI showed that for elementary school students, 55.9% were in the low weight group, 5.5% in the overweight group, and 0.9% in the obese group. For middle and high school students, 40.6% and 35.5% respectively were in the low weight group, 7.4% and 6.3% in the overweight group, and 4.1% and 2.5% the obese group. 5) Comparisons of the eating behavior of students in the normal weight group with that of those in the three risk groups showed that there significant differences in 'hunger' and cognitive restraint of eating' in elementary school students, and significant differences in 'cognitive restraint of eating' in middle and high school students. Conclusion : The results of this study show that management of diet in school health should be addressed from both the aspect of lack of nutrition and that of excess nutrition. In other words, good diet is as important for students in the low weight group as it is for those in the overweight and obese groups. The establishment of good dietary habits and eating behavior in students, by nurses and dieticians should be done by providing repeated diet education and involvement in diet counseling.
The purpose of this research was to investigate perception, necessity, and satisfaction of a free foodservice in male middle school students. This study was conducted at male middle schools with paid foodservice (PFS group, 250 students) and with free foodservice (FFS group, 250 students) in Chungnam. Average age of students in the PFS group was 13.1 while that of FFS students was 12.8 years. Exactly 88% of PFS students and 94% of FFS students responded that school foodservice is necessary, which was a significant difference (P<0.05). As the reason for participating in foodservice, about 32% of the PFS students answered the school's request while 33.6% of FFS students answered nutrition, showing a significant difference (P<0.001). Exactly 72.8% of PFS and 96.4% of FFS knew about FFS (P<0.001). More PFS students (86.4%) than FFS students (66%) answered they would not participate in foodservice if the FFS would be introduced and the quality of meal service would deteriorate. After initiation to FFS, there were significant differences in assessment of foodservice: 77.6% of PFS students answered expected that the quality of foodservice would degrade, whereas 74.4% of FFS students answered that quality would not degrade (P<0.001). Satisfaction of foodservice was 2.3 points for FFS students, which was significantly lower than the 2.5 points for PFS students (P<0.001). To sum up assessment of foodservice was positive, whereas satisfaction was not significantly different between PFS and FFS. Based on this research, households, schools, and governments should promote FFS in order to diminish financial pressure for students.

Objectives: The purpose of this study analyzes the characteristics of safety education in schools, experience of accidents, and safety awareness level of elementary school students. It also presents realistic guidelines for safety education, which can effectively lead to the safety behavior of students. Methods: We carried out questionnaire survey by convenient sampling method to 6th grade students of 3 elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do area that can understand the questionnaire and express their own opinion for safety awareness from February 15, 2013 to February 1, 2013. We used a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed 266 questionnaires except dishonestly answered 34 questionnaires. Results: 1. For accident occurrence by gender, male students was higher than female students. Male students was also higher than female students among students having an accident(${\chi}^2$=5.142, p=0.029). There was statistical significance in accident occurrence by how they go to school. Students going to school on foot have higher accident rate(${\chi}^2$=11.447, p=0.010). 2. In terms of safety awareness level, students having no accident was higher than students having an accident(F=3.828, p=0.005) and students usually keeping safety rules have higher safety awareness(F=14.285, p=0.000). 3. When parents give safety education to their children as often as possible, the safety awareness level of students was high(F=5.257, p=.006). 4. Students having an accident have no safety education experience than students having no accident(p<0.05). They have never had safety education from a health teacher. There was statistical significance(p<0.01). Conclusions: Accordingly, we need to make students have safety attitude to prevent safety accidents. To achieve it, safety awareness has to be inspired. Systematic and various education programs that can give connected education with local community network to the students and parents is required.

The aim of this study is to survey and analyze the recognition of teachers and students about methods for entering general high school. For this study, firstly current methods for entering general high school of 16 offices of education were compared and analyzed. Secondly recognition of teachers in middle school or high school and of students in middle school about methods for entering general high school were surveyed and analyzed. Major consequences of this study are as follows: Firstly, most teachers preferred the method by both school life records and the entrance test but most students preferred the method by school life records. Secondly, teachers recognized the difference of school life records according to sex and school and the decrese of academic achievement from decrese of motive for studies as serious problems of general high school entrance method by school life records. Thirdly, students recognized competition among students in the same school and the difference of school life records according to sex as serious problems of general high school entrance method by school life records.

The purpose of this study was to examine how school soccer league influenced the school life satisfaction of middle school student in an attempt to help improve their school life and facilitate the universalization of school soccer league. The subjects were 103 students participating in school soccer league at a boy's middle school in Busan and 148 non-participants at the same school as a comparison group. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The students who participated in the school soccer league program expressed better satisfaction with school life than the other who didn't, and the gap between the two was statistically significant. 2. The students who participated in the school soccer league program, the students who showed higher participation frequency expressed better satisfaction with school life than the other who didn't, and the gap between the two was statistically significant. 3. The student who participated in the school soccer league program, the higher level students of soccer ability expressed better satisfaction with school life than the lower level student of that, and the gap between the two was statistically significant.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current conditions and to analysis the needs of health education contents in school nurses and elementary school children. Methods : The survey was conducted through the questionnaire with school nurses and students. Subjects were 60 school nurse and 1483 elementary school children. Data was collected based on the from Mar to Apr. 2004. Finally, data was analyzed using mean, SD, and t-test. Results : The students need the health education related safety, oral hygiene, visual promotion, scoliosis prevention, cyber addiction prevention, anti-bullying and school violence prevention. School nurses suggest the contents of health education such as sex education, drug misuse and overuse prevention. There was also a difference in the need of health education among the school nurse and students. Conclusion:I suggest that health education should be conducted taking students' demand in each grade into consideration. School nurses need to positively improve the priorities of health education based on the students' demand.

The decrease in population of school age is one of major influencing factor of transformative educational environment. After the nineteen eighties, the population of South Korea has increased step by step, but the population of school age has been decreasing rapidly by low birth rate. As a result, closed school by merger and abolition of small school occurred all over the country. The closed school needed effective function as center of local community. Consequently the purpose of this study is to provide basic data for effective policy making of closed school by comparative analysis of educational environment such as number of students, schools, students per class, status of usage of closed school of the east area and the west area divided by The Tae Baek Mountains in the Gangwon-do, which has the least students in the nationwide. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) Gangwon-do has high decreasing rate of population, schools and students compared with other provinces. However it has significantly low number of students per class. 2) The number of students, schools of the west area in Gangwon-do outnumbers that of the east area. However the number of students per class of the east area in Gangwon-do lesser than that of the west area.

Objectives: The study investigated constipation in male and female high school students and in order to provide data base for development of education and intervention programs aimed at preventing and managing constipation in high school students. Methods: The study used a technique of convenience sampling to mobilize the entire students in an academic high school in D region. Of the combined 360 copies of questionnaire distributed, 340 copies were collected and used for the final analysis. The gathered data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and ${\chi}^2-test$ in SPSS 21. Results: The ratio of female students with constipation is significantly higher than that of male students with the condition(${\chi}^2=5.73$, p=0.017), and there were significant differences in exercise habits(${\chi}^2=26.75$, p<0.001), eating habits(${\chi}^2=43.19$, p<0.001), and bowel habits(${\chi}^2=22.96$, p<0.001) between female students and male students. Also there was significant difference in water intake between the normal group and the constipation group(${\chi}^2=10.01$, p=0.040). Significant differences between the two groups were also discovered in the level of perception of constipation(${\chi}^2=98.76$, p<0.001), bowel movement time(${\chi}^2=15.74$, p=0.008), and use of laxatives(${\chi}^2=17.68$, p<0.001) and enema(${\chi}^2=16.97$, p<0.001) for constipation relief. Conclusions: To prevent and manage constipation in high school students, education about healthy dietary, and bowel habits is required. Also there is an urgent need to improve the school toilet environment in order to respect the rights of students to void or defecate when necessary, a process which will require involvement of students, teachers, and other school staff.
The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and correlated factors of sexual behavior among high school students in Seoul A sample of 233 male and 248 female high school students were analyzed using cross-tabulation and logit regression models. Correlated factors examined include type of school, level of mothers education, perceived living status of family, whether family has two parents or not, and whether students have ever lived away from the family, whether students received reproductive health education at school and whether they have friends with sexual experience, whether students have ever smoking and alcohol drinking. The prevalence of alcohol drinking was 73% among boys and 55% among girls and the prevalence of smoking was 64% of boys and 40% of girls, whereas the prevalence of sexual activity was 27% among boys and 15% among girls. Risk taking was more prevalent among boys than among girls. Multiple risk taking behavior was common for both boys and girls. Students who did not have two parents were more likely to engage in risk taking behavior than those who had two parents. For both boys and girls, the factor that affects their own sexual activity most was having a friend who was sexually active and having an experience of living away from their family also increases the odds. For girls, the factor that affects having experience of alcohol drinking and smoking. Receiving reproductive health education at school had no effect on students sexual behavior. Much higher risk taking behavior with sexual behavior among students in Seoul implies that the overall prevalence of risk taking behavior among high school students was likely to rise as South Korea continues its modernization. In-school and community health education programs need to be modified to be effective in protecting students from risk taking sexual behavior.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the influencing factors on alienation among high school students. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 550 students of academic and vocational high schools in G city. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The scores of alienation among students in financially lower middle class and lower class were higher than those of the upper middle class students, resulting in significant differences(F=6.87, p=.00). A sense of alienation showed a significantly negative correlation with the scores of responding parenting style(r=-.32), family cohesion(r=-.33), school attachment(r=-.51), academic performance(r=-.34), peer relationships(r=-.38), self-control(r=-.43), and social skills(r=-.33). The most powerful predictor of alienation among high school students was school attachment and the variance explained was 26%. A combination of school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance account for 40% of the variance in alienation among high school students. Conclusion: This study suggests that school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance are significant influencing factors on alienation in high school students. Therefore, nursing strategy is needed to manage these revealed factors.
