In this study, the writer explained what have been the problems of school education and of school library media center in our country In the problems of school library media center, the writer point out especially poor quantity of teacher-librarians at the field of school education in our country. And then explained how school library media center can be developed. Finally the writer suggested how the problems of school education can be resolved by the school library media center.

This paper starts by exploring the problems of public education under knowledge based society. It then analyzes the questionnaire about the function of school library media center as a culture space. The results show that school library media center should take a role as repertory appreciation center of various arts, recreation center, and interactive community.

Information technology is affecting most areas of society in information society, schools are facing with the change of learning methods by computer and internet. The purpose of this study is to apply internet technology to school library, for maximizing the function of school library in information age. This study designed and implemented th ISLMC(Internet School Library Media Center) using the WWW, that gathers, processes and stores the useful information resources on the internet and effectively provides these to teachers, students and their parents of the learning activities.

According to the new multi-media appeared as a result of rapid growth of the information and science technique, the school library must be changed to the integration of the teach-study media resource from the existing print media. It means that the school library has to play a role of the study center with a different media from the existing teaching material, teaching instrument, facility and opportunity. The Information education must be conducted in the way of an integrated education course and able to do both information transaction and problem settlement. The education facility to solve this problem is the school library. Therefore, the school library becomes important more and more. It means that the school library is the center of entire study and education material for the teacher and student is focused on it. It is urgent to make the standard of the school library In order to cope with the new education and information environments. And especially it is very important to make a plan about the location and scale of the school library to improve the quality of the children's studying activity. The location of the school library is decided under consideration of the relationship with other room of school house and the proper scale of it is between 2.5units and 7.0units of classroom based on the number of class.

I identified constructivism's teaching-learning theory as a modern ideal method of education on this paper. And I explained how school media center relate with constructivism on educational method and educational environment. I suggested what is the points of development of school media center under the educational method of constructivism. And then by doing so I strived for contribution to the solution of problems of school education in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the principles of school library media center program and to finds out present level and future outlook of the program implementation in primary and middle school. The fundamental objective of school is learning and school library functions as a link to support this objective. Therefore quality of education must always be linked to the library media programs. A questionaire which consists of 13 questions covering school library media center operation was designed to final out how learning-teaching media program is being practiced in Korea. Based on this study, it is concluded that there is significant difference between present practice level and desired future-oriented practice. It is hoped that this study will help planners in formulating school library policy to achieve educational goal of the school.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between media richness, media usefulness, media experience and media decision in order to identify factors that determine the media of school library in solving performance evaluation tasks. For this purpose, 132 primary and middle school students were surveyed and their structural equation was set up by hypothesis setting, validity test, and causal model. As a result, it was confirmed that media experience of school library is a major factor in media decision. Also, media richness and media experience appeared to influence media decision through media usefulness. The analysis implies that school library is centered on teaching - learning process and evaluation, so information literacy education should be carried out in school curriculum and school library is required to provide students experience on media as the center of school education.

This study is about special programs for elementary school library media centers in Texas in the United States, that can be used as a way of activating the school library media center programs. Various special programs of the seven elementary school library media centers in Texas were selected for case studies and the types, purposes. frameworks, effects of the programs and the subjects were analyzed. Special programs were provided for exhibits and displays, featured speakers or entertainers, learning centers, demonstrations, and media in conjunction with book fair and curriculum. And the purposes of the programs were to support and enhance the curriculum. to provide personal enrichment and to provide professional development for teachers. The frameworks for the program were the special target group, curriculum needs, special theme. interest and entertainment within available time periods. The benefits of the programs were the highlights of the media center and the media specialist, increasing of the school library media center usage. classroom support and enrichment, broadening students' and teachers' interests. encouragement of the development of lifelong learners and the establishment of the good public relations. Therefore, we have to consider the development of the special programs as a method of activating the school library in Korea and it should be brought with the concern and support from the principals, teachers, parents, and community members.

The school library media specialists offer the users assistance in using information resources and instructional media by assessing, evaluating and selecting the most appropriate materials for the present educational situation in school. The format of the information media and the scope of the media center collection have constantly been changed by information technology. Media specialist has to know the selection criteria to be capable of providing any media format in the technological society, particularly of providing instruction software(courseware), multimedia, hypermedia and digital reference service to maintain the school library media center as one of the user oriented educational information centers. This paper presents the selection criteria for the instruction media by media format as one of the useful guidelines to the media specialist.
