Configuration of Actuator and Sensor Interface Bus Network using PLC

  • A kind of field bus called Actuator and Sensor interface bus(AS-i) was designed in this paper. The configuration of AS-i network system used Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) SAP5S chip and PLC S7-200 station, which included CPU 224 and AS-i master module CP 243-2. We also created an example program for PLC S7-200 to control AS-i network. The fire and smoke detection system was made with AS-i network system that was designed. This system had got more advantages than other system such as number of stations, easy installation, wide working area, etc. And designed system can be used as a partner network for higher level field bus networks.

  • This study aims at discussing the future trend of the community bus and attempted to route selection by using GIS for the welfare-type community bus, which satisfies the need of elderly and physically handicapped persons in Nagasaki City. In doing so, we have conducted field survey in some sample cities of Kyushu, Japan for taking lessons from the present state analysis of community bus already operating there. As a result of the study, we have been able to identify some best possible routes for the community bus operation in Nagasaki City, which meets the requirement of the welfare community as well as of the general passengers.

Adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for safety bus in nuclear power plants

  • In the event of a short-circuit accident on a 4.16 kV non-safety bus, the voltage is temporarily lowered as backflow occurs on the safety bus. In such cases, the undervoltage relay of the safety bus shall not pick up the undervoltage so as not to interfere with the operation of the safety motors. The aim of this study is to develop an adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for the 4.16 kV safety bus considering the faults on the 13.8 kV and 4.16 kV non-safety buses connected to secondary windings of the three winding transformers, UAT and SAT. The result of this study will be the adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for the safety bus of nuclear power plants satisfying functional requirements of the safety related medium voltage motors. The adaptive undervoltage protection scheme can be implemented into an integrated digital protective relay to make user friendly and reliable protection scheme.

  • An autonomous demand-responsive bus with mobility-on-demand service is an innovative transport compensating for the disadvantages of an autonomous bus and a demand-responsive bus with mobility-on-demand service. However, less attention has been paid to the quantitative impact assessment of the autonomous demand-responsive bus due to the technological complexity of the autonomous demand-responsive bus. This study simulates autonomous demand-responsive bus trips by reinforcement learning on a microscopic traffic simulation to quantify the impact of the autonomous demand-responsive bus. The Chungju campus of the Korea National University of Transportation is selected as a testbed. Simulation results show that the introduction of the autonomous demand-responsive bus can reduce the wait time of passengers, average control delay, and increase the traffic speed compared to the results with fixed route bus service. This study contributes to the quantitative evaluation of the autonomous demand-responsive bus.

  • In a hierarchical-bus multiprocessor system, cache coherence protocol has effect on system performance. Under a particular cache coherence protocol, system performance can be affected by bus bandwidth, memory size, and memory block size. Therefore sensitivity analysis is necessary for the part of multiprocessor system. In this paper, we set up cache coherence protocol for hierarchical-bus multiprocessor system, and compute probability of state of protocol, and analyze sensitivity for part of system by simulation.

  • In this study, a large bus is tested for measuring the steering response based on the slarom test and step steer test. A full car model by using ADAMS/Car is established for computer simulation. For bus modeling, user defined templates are made and used in the simulation. Simulation results according to the slarom and step steer test are compared to the physical experiments, in which several sensors are installed to measure vehicle responses. The results obtained from the comparison show a good agreement with regard to the vehicle velocity and steering angle.

  • When a node in automotive CAN bus is hacked, such node should be blocked to prevent severe danger in the car. In order to do that, such node should be uniquely identified. However, there is no way to identify individual nodes in a CAN bus. In this paper, a physical layer security method is proposed where individual nodes are identified by assigning unique ID to the nodes during booting process. The proposed method was implemented in a CAN controller using Verilog HDL, and it is verified that the node ID auto-setting and internal attack defense are successfully performed.

  • In bus delay-tolerant networks, the route of bus is determinate but its arrival time is indeterminate. However, most conventional approaches predict future contact without considering its uncertainty, which makes a limitation on routing performance. A novel approach is proposed by employing interval algebra to characterize the contact's uncertainty and time-varying nature. The contact is predicted by using the Bayesian estimation to achieve a better routing performance. Simulation results show that this approach achieves a good balance between delivery latency and delivery ratio.

  • This paper deals with the free cooling system of express bus using natural energy source in order to improve the room air quality and save cooling energy. In an express bus, there are may passengers in unit area, requiring the improvement of air quality and giving higher energy saving efficiency. Particularly, the express buses running fast make it easy to take in outdoor air at a flow rate controllable with a damper mechanism. This paper proposes the analysis on the air flow achieved by a damper controlled vertically and horizontally in order not to deteriorate the ride comfort of the passengers.

Antl-Lock Brake System Control for Buses Based on Fuzzy Logic and a Sliding-Mode Observer

  • In this paper an anti-lock brake system (ABS) for commercial buses is proposed based on a fuzzy-logic controller and a sliding-mode observer of the vehicle speed. The brake controller generates pulse width modulated (PWM) control inputs to the solenoid valve of each brake, as a function of the estimated wheel slip ratio. PWM control inputs at the brakes significantly reduce chattering in the brake system compared with conventional on-off control inputs. The sliding-mode observer estimates the vehicle speed with measurements of wheel speed, which is then sed to compute the wheel slip ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is validated by a series of computer simulations of bus driving, where the 14-DOF bus model is used.
