SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is an effective tool for monitoring areas damaged by disasters. Full PolSAR (Polarimetric SAR) enhances SAR's capabilities by providing specific scattering mechanisms. Thus, full PolSAR data have been widely used to analyze the situation when disasters occur. To interpret full PolSAR data, model-based decomposition methods are frequently used due to its easy physical interpretation of PolSAR data and computational efficiency. However, these methods present problems. One of the key problems is the overestimation of the volume scattering component. To minimize the volume scattering component, the OA (Orientation Angle) compensation method is widely utilized. This paper shows that the effect of the OA compensation was analyzed over landslide affected areas. In this paper, the OA compensation is applied by using the OA estimated from the maximum relative Hellinger distance. We conducted an experiment using two full polarimetric ALOS/PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite/Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar)-2 data collected over Mocoa, Colombia which was seriously damaged by the 2017 Mocoa landslide. After OA compensation, the experimental results showed volume scattering power decreased, while the double-bounce and surface scattering power increased. Particularly, significant changes were noted in urban areas. In addition, after OA compensation, the separability of the double-bounce and surface scattering components are improved over the damaged building areas. Furthermore, changes in the OA can discriminate visually between the damaged building areas and undamaged areas. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the effect of OA compensation improved the influence of the double-bounce and surface scattering components, and OA changes can be useful for detecting damaged building areas.
In this paper, we propose an algorithm which represents the distance depiction technique of real painting that named "Aerial Perspective" in painterly rendering. It is a painting technique that depicts the attenuations of light in the atmosphere, and the scattering effect is changed by the distance, altitude and density of atmospheres. For the reflection of these natures, we use the depth information corresponding to an input image and user-defined parameters, so that user changes the effect level. We calculate the distance and altitude of every pixel with the depth information and parameters about shot information, and control the scattering effects by expression parameters. Additionally, we accentuate the occluding edges detected by the depth information to clarify the sense of distance between fore and back-ground. We apply our algorithm on various landscape scenes, and generate the distance-emphasized results compared to existing works.

Due to the congestion of the radio spectrum, frequency bands are shared among the communication systems. Therefore for the satisfactory operation we have to predict with reasonable accuracy the levels of interference that might exist among them. Inter- ference among the communication systems depends on many factors such as climate, radio frequency, time percentage of interest, distance and path topography. Interference due to rain scattering is the most important factorin Ghz frequencies. ITU-R offers the model related to interference due to rain scattering. In this paper the transmission loss due to rain scattering is predicted and compared with the measured results.

Light from universe is absorbed, scattered, and re-released by interstellar dust before it reaches us. Therefore, accurate correction of the observed light requires not only spatial distribution of interstellar dust, but also information on absorption and scattering for each wavelength. Far-ultraviolet (FUV) light is mainly produced by bright, young O-type and some B-type stars, but it is also observed in interstellar space without these stars. Called FUV Galactic light (DGL), these lights are mostly known as starlight scattered by interstellar dust. With the recent release of GAIA DR2, not only accurate distance information of stars in our Galaxy, but also accurate three-dimensional distribution maps of interstellar dust of our Galaxy were produced. Based on this, we performed 3-dimensional Monte Carlo dust scattering radiative transfer simulations for FUV light to obtain dust scattered FUV images and compared them with the observed FUV image obtained by FIMS and GALEX. From this, we find the scattering properties of interstellar dust in our Galaxy and suggest the intensity of extragalactic background light. These results are expected to aid in the study of chemical composition, size distribution, shape, and alignment of interstellar dust in our Galaxy.

In this study, an electron-scattering device was fabricated to practically use the ultra-high dose rate electron beams for the FLASH preclinical research in Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences. The Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences has been involved in the investigation of linear accelerators for preclinical research and has recently implemented FLASH electron beams. To determine the geometry of the scattering device for the FLASH preclinical research with a 6-MeV linear accelerator, the Monte Carlo N-particle transport code was exploited. By employing the fabricated scattering device, the off-axis and depth dose distributions were measured with radiochromic films. The generated mean energy of electron beams via the scattering device was 4.3 MeV, and the symmetry and flatness of the off-axis dose distribution were 0.11% and 2.33%, respectively. Finally, the doses per pulse were obtained as a function of the source to surface distance (SSD); the measured dose per pulse varied from 4.0 to 0.2 Gy/pulse at an SSD range of 20-90 cm. At an SSD of 30 cm with a 100-Hz repetition rate, the dose rate was 180 Gy/s, which is sufficient for the preclinical FLASH studies.
Monte-Carlo radiative models of the diffuse Galactic light (DGL) in our Galaxy are calculated using the dust radiative transfer code MoCafe, which is three-dimensional and takes full account of multiple scattering. The code is recently updated to use a fast voxel traversal algorithm, which has dramatically increased the computing speed. The radiative transfer models are calculated with the generally accepted dust scale-height of 0.1 kpc. The stellar scale-heights are assumed to be 0.1 or 0.35 kpc, appropriate for far-ultraviolet (FUV) and optical wavelengths, respectively. The face-on optical depth, measured perpendicular to the Galactic plane, is also varied from 0.2 to 0.6, suitable to the optical to FUV wavelengths, respectively. We find that the DGL at high Galactic latitudes is mostly due to backward or large-angle scattering of starlight originating from the local stars within a radial distance of r < 0.5 kpc from the Earth. On the other hand, the DGL measured in the Galactic plane is mostly due to stars at a distance range that corresponds to an optical depth of $${\sim_\sim}$$ 1 measured from the Earth. Therefore, the low-latitude DGL at the FUV wavelength band would be mostly caused by the stars located at a distance of $r{\leq}0.5$ kpc and the optical DGL near the Galactic plane mainly originates from stars within a distance range of $1{\leq}r{\leq}2kpc$. We also calculate the radiative transfer models in a clumpy two-phase medium. The clumpy two-phase models provide lower intensities at high Galactic latitudes compared to the uniform density models, because of the lower effective optical depth in clumpy media. However, no significant difference in the intensity at the Galactic plane is found.

LPG is a substance that requires a lot of attention because it can cause fatal damage to people and environment when an accident occurs. LPG is frequently accidents in transportation facilities as well as fixed facilities, among which LPG tank lorries are the most frequent accidents. When the LPG tank is evacuated, the LP gas leaks into two phases, leaks mostly to the gas and leaks to some liquid. At this time, the leaked gas will also sink downward because it is heavier than air, and if it continues to leak, it may form an explosion and explode by the ignition source. The purpose of this study is to present the evacuation distance by analyzing the effect distance of the LPG liquefied petroleum gas in the event of explosion. As a result of calculation of the scattering radius of the fragment, the cylinder fragment was scattered up to 561 m. Therefore, it is appropriate to set the distance to be escaped when the LPG tanker leaks to 561m or more.

The propagation of light radiation within tissues is an important problem that confronts the dosimetry of therapeutic laser delivery and the development of diagnostic spectroscopy. In the clinical application of photodynamic therapy(PDT) and in photobiology, the photon deposition within a tissue determines the spatial distribution of photochemical reactions. Scattered light is measured as a function of the distance (r) between the axis of the incident beam and the detection spot. Consequently, knowledge of the photosensitizer(Chlorophyll-a) function that characterizes a phantom is important. To obtain the results of scattering coefficients(${\mu}s$) of a turbid material from diffusion described by experimental approach. It was measured the energy fluency of photon radiation at the position of penetration depth. From fluorescence experimental method obtained the analytical expression for the scattered light as the values of $(I\;/I_o)_{wavelength}$ vs the distance between the center of the incident beam and optical fiber in terms of the condition of "in situ spectroscopy(optically thick)" and real time by fluorometric measurements.

The influences of scatterer and absorber in turbid material by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by Monte Carlo simulation in resin of New Austria Tunnel Method. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical parameters(${\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$, ${\mu}_t$). Monte Carlo Simulation method for modelling of light transport in the civil engineering and construction field was applied. The results using a phantom were discussed that the distance from source to detector is closer, and scattering intensity is stronger with those obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation. It may also aid in designing the best model for coatings and corrosion for the durability of metal constructions.
Line-laser beams are used for depth measurement of welding beads along the circumference of a pipe. For this, first we project a line-laser beam on an rotating pipe and take a sequence of images of the beam projected on the pipe using a CCD camera. Second, the projected line laser beam in each image is detected, converted into a thin curve. Finally measure the distance between the thinned curve and an imaginary line. When a line-laser beam is projected to a rough metal surface such as arc welding beads, the beam is severely scattered. This severe scattering makes the thinned curve perturbed. In this paper, we propose a thinning method robust against scattering of line lasers. First, we extract a projected line laser beam region using an adaptive threshold. Second, we model a thinned curve with a spline curve with control points. Next, we adjust the control points to fit the curve to the projected line-laser beam. Finally, we take a weighted mean of thin curves on a sequence of image frames. Experiments shows that the proposed thinning method results in a thinning curve, which is smooth and fit to the projected line-laser beam with small error.
