In order to obtain more clear x-ray images, an antiscatter grid, which can absorb the scattered rays, is employed. In the high-resolution direct digital radiography, however, the artifacts due to the grid are visible. In this paper, within the methods of obtaining x-ray digital images by employing the rotated grids for the facility of grid artifact reduction, the previous work, where the frequencies of the artifact components on the boundary, is further analyzed and extended, and a min-max optimization for a given grid density is proposed. For practical grid densities, appropriate grid angles are provided and a grid artifact reduction algorithm is proposed for the appropriate grid angles. The proposed algorithm is tested for real x-ray digital images with a comparison, and can remove the grid artifacts while maintaining the resolution of the original image.
A method to determine the thickness of silicone resin film on zinc eletroplated steel using X-ray compton scattering was investigated. On the basis of the fact that compton scattering process predominates over photoelectric absorption for the light elements such as C, H, O and Si, the compton scattered line of RhK$_{\alpha}$ was used to determine the thickness of silicone resin. In this method, the standard calibration curve for thickness determination of silicone resin film was found to be linear in the range of 0.2~5.0 ${mu}$m film thickness. The analytical results agreed well with those obtained by the gravimetric method and the accuracy was found to be 0.22 ${mu}$m.
To broaden the understanding of classical Cepheid structure, evolution and atmospheres, we have extended our continuing secret lives of Cepheids program by obtaining XMM/Chandra X-ray observations, and Hubble space telescope (HST) / cosmic origins spectrograph (COS) FUV-UV spectra of the bright, nearby Cepheids Polaris, ${\delta}$ Cep and ${\beta}$ Dor. Previous studies made with the international ultraviolet explorer (IUE) showed a limited number of UV emission lines in Cepheids. The well-known problem presented by scattered light contamination in IUE spectra for bright stars, along with the excellent sensitivity & resolution combination offered by HST/COS, motivated this study, and the spectra obtained were much more rich and complex than we had ever anticipated. Numerous emission lines, indicating $10^4$ K up to ${\sim}3{\times}10^5$ K plasmas, have been observed, showing Cepheids to have complex, dynamic outer atmospheres that also vary with the photospheric pulsation period. The FUV line emissions peak in the phase range ${\varphi}{\approx}0.8-1.0$ and vary by factors as large as $10{\times}$. A more complete picture of Cepheid outer atmospheres is accomplished when the HST/COS results are combined with X-ray observations that we have obtained of the same stars with XMM-Newton & Chandra. The Cepheids detected to date have X-ray luminosities of log $L_X{\approx}28.5-29.1$ ergs/sec, and plasma temperatures in the $2-8{\times}106$ K range. Given the phase-timing of the enhanced emissions, the most plausible explanation is the formation of a pulsation-induced shocks that excite (and heat) the atmospheric plasmas surrounding the photosphere. A pulsation-driven ${\alpha}^2$ equivalent dynamo mechanism is also a viable and interesting alternative. However, the tight phase-space of enhanced emission (peaking near 0.8-1.0 ${\varphi}$) favor the shock heating mechanism hypothesis.

Authors describe some useful data when constructing tissue-equivalent compensators which would compensate tissue deficit in the treatment field of high energy electromagnetic radiation Tissue equivalent compensator is made of lucite. The ratio of compensator thickness to the thickness of tissue deficit depends on radiation energy, field size and the distance from the compensator to patient skin. When the compensator is separated from skin surface, the thickness ratio is always smaller than 1.0. This means that the larger the separation, the contribution to the total dose by means of scattered radiation from a tissue equivalent compensator is smaller. Authors propose that the thickness of lucite as tissue equivalent compensator is 0.57 times tissue deficit and the separation between compensator and skin is at least 15m for Co-60 gamma ray and 25cm for 10MV X-ray.
$Cd_{1-x}Zn_xS$-sensitized $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite photocatalysts (designated $Cd_{1-x}Zn_xS/K_4Nb_6O_{17}$) were prepared via a simple deposition-precipitation method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), $N_2$ sorption, ultraviolet-visible light diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), photoluminescence measurements (PL), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$ particles were scattered on the surface of $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$, and had a relatively uniform size distribution around 50 nm. The absorption edge of $K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ was shifted to the visible light region and the recombination of photo-generated electrons and holes suppressed after $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$ loading. The $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S$(25 wt %)/$K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite possessed the highest photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production under visible light irradiation, evolving 8.278 mmol/g in 3 h. Recyclability tests were performed, and the composite photocatalysts were found to be fairly stable. The mechanism of charge separation between the photogenerated electrons and holes at the $Cd_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}S/K_4Nb_6O_{17}$ composite was discussed.

Using a combination of an X-ray generator Installed in radiation calibration laboratory of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and a series of 8 radiators and filters described in ISO-4037, monoenergetic fluorescent X-rays from 8.6 keV to 75 keV were produced. This fluorescent X-rays generated by primary X-rays from radiator were discriminated $K_{\beta}$ lines with the aid of filter material and the only $K_{\alpha}$ X-rays were analyzed with the high purity Ge detector and portable MCA. The air kerma rates were measured with the 35 co ionization chamber and compared with the calculational results, and the beam uniformity and the scattered effects of radiation fields were also measured. The beam purities were more than 90 % for the energy range of 8.6 keV to 75 keV and the air kerma rates were from 1.91 mGy/h (radiator : Au, filter : W) to 54.2 mGy (radiator : Mo, filter : Zr) at 43 cm from center of the radiator. The effective area of beam at the measurement point of air kerma rates was 12 cm ${\times}$ 12 cm and the influence of scattered radiation was less than 3 %. The fluorescent X-rays established in this study could be used for the determination of energy response of the radiation measurement devices and the personal dosemeters in low photon energy regions.
Current medical institutions with the development of medical technology to the increased demand for health use of radiation equipment is increasing rapidly. Direct radiation from the patient receives the aim of reducing exposure as much as possible is important and the spatial dose of scattered radiation with in the space to engage in reducing healthcare physician, radiation workers and carers need to reduce indirect exposure. X-ray radiation workers and caregivers in the X-ray room to wearing of protective clothing is advised. However Radiation worker sand caregivers of patients with secondary is done, by wearing protective clothing to wear protective clothing because of the weight and discomfort have been neglected. In this study, based on the presence or absence of clothing scattered radiation from space to measure distances, depending on the horizontal and height by measuring the angle of the importance of wearing protective clothing were investigated.

Trace levels of uranium and thorium in geologic samples are determined rapidly by a direct wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence method. Relative intensity of scattered tube radiation was used as an internal standard to compensate for variations in instrumental operating characteristics. U and Th can be determined within a precision of ${\pm}10%$ and accuracy of ${\pm}15%$ or less with measuring times of 50 seconds for Th and 400 seconds for U, respectively. The results of XRF analysis were in good agreement with those of other methods such as nutron activation analysis and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry.

Backscattered x-ray imaging is a technology capable of acquiring an image inside an irradiated object by measuring X-rays scattered from an object. For image acquisition, the system must include an X-ray generator and a detection system for measuring scattered x-rays. The imaging device must acquire a real-time signal at sampling intervals for x-rays generated by passing through a high-speed rotating collimator, and for this purpose, a high-speed signal acquisition device is required. We developed a high-speed multi-channel signal acquisition device for converting and transmitting signals generated by the sensor unit composed of a large-area plastic scintillator and a photomultiplier tube. The developed detector is a system capable of acquiring signals at intervals of at least 15u seconds and converting and transmitting signals of up to 6 channels. And a system includes remote control functions such as high voltage, signal gain, and low level discrimination for individual calibration of each sensor. Currently, we are conducting an application test for image acquisition under various conditions.

Most of the spatial scattered dose caused by the scattered rays generated by the collision between the object and X-rays is relatively easily absorbed by the human body as electromagnetic waves in the low energy region, thereby increasing the degree of radiation exposure. Such spatial scattering dose is also used as an indicator of the degree of radiation exposure of radiation workers and patients, and there is a need for a method to reduce exposure by reducing the spatial scattered dose that occurs indirectly. Therefore, in this study, a lead-free radiation shielding sheet was proposed as a way to reduce the spatial scattering dose, and a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation was performed based on a chest X-ray examination. The absorbed dose was calculated and the measured value and the shielding rate were compared and evaluated.
