Assessment of the Effect of Probabilistic Modeling of Sea-States in Fatigue Damage Calculations

  • Spectral fatigue damage calculations has been performed on four ships in order to assess the effect that the probabilistic modeling of sea states has on the estimated fatigue life. The damage estimation method is based on the Miner- Palmgren fatigue damage formulation and a spectral approach is used to determine the necessary variances of the stress processes. Both the horizontal and vertical hull girder bending induced stress process together with the local water pressure induced stress process is taken into account. The wave scatter diagrams are applied in the calculations and their fatigue severity is assessed by analyzing the results obtained with the ten scatter diagrams and the four ships. All four ships are analyzed both in full load and ballast conditions and while traveling at both full and reduced speed. It is found that the fatigue severity of a wave scatter diagram is dependent on several parameters, some of these being the extreme wave hight extrapolated from the scatter diagram and the mean zero up-crossing period in conjunction with the ship length . Based on these three parameters and expression is derived in order to calculate one single number describing the fatigue severity of a scatter diagram with respect to a certain ship.

  • This paper is investigated to variation of wave power generation operation rate, operating capacity and output with the wave conditions represented by wave height-period window. By the use of the long-term wave data from 1979 to 2002 which is provided by Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute(KORDI), we calculated the monthly variation of significant wave height(Hs), zero-up crossing period(Tz) and distribution of wave appearance rate. And using the same wave data, it was charted the Hs-Tz and wave-energy scatter diagrams.

S-NS 다이어그램으로 강의 만족도 개선 사례 연구 (Case Study for Improving Lecture Satisfaction using S-NS Diagram)

  • Purpose: This paper proposes S-NS diagram. S-NS diagram helps us find core factors which improve customer satisfaction. Methods: S-NS diagram draws a scatter diagram based on marks obtained from surveys consisting of several questions on satisfaction and non-satisfaction at the same time. S-NS diagram is divided into the 4 regions. We focused on region B which is High satisfaction and high non-satisfaction shown in S-NS diagram. Region B is the areas for needs to improve. Results: S-NS diagram can find few important factors which affect customer satisfaction. We improve Lecture Satisfaction using S-NS Diagram. Conclusion: S-NS diagram has been proven to be an effective method for improving customer satisfaction with a lecture satisfaction improvement example. We know S-NS diagram can use many fields including manufacture and service areas.

RF-CBTC 시스템을 위한 ISM 대역에서의 CPSK 송신기의 설계 및 성능분석 (Design and Performance Analysis of CPSK Transmitter for RF-CBTC System in ISM Band)

  • CBTC의 통신기술은 IEEE 802.11.x 표준을 사용하고 있으며 ISM밴드 대역중 하나인 2.4GHz를 사용하게 된다. 따라서 CBTC 철도 무선시스템으로서는 통신 지연, 통신 왜곡 및 정보 손실 등이 발생 할 수 있다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해 ISM 대역중 908MHz 일정진폭을 갖는 직접 시퀀스 확산스펙트럼 송신기를 제안하였다. 성능 분석을 위해 주요파라미터인 아이 다이아그램과 scatter diagram을 고려하여 특성 분석을 하였다. 또한 국부발진 신호의 위상잡음 특성은 약 60dBc/Hz로서 기준신호와 비교 시 특성이 상당히 우수함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 2차 국부 발진 신호의 기준 주파수 억압이 50dB이하가 됨을 알 수 있었다. 제안한 변조방법에서 보조신호는 양과 음의 발생확률을 균일하게 함으로써 출력스펙트럼에서의 선스펙트럼성분에 의한 간섭을 제거하였으며 비선형 증폭기를 통과한 후의 스펙트럼의 측대파의 재생율이 현저히 줄어들었음을 볼 수 있었다.

  • The forming limit diagram (FLD) is the most commonly used tool for evaluating of sheet metal formability in the manufacturing field as well as the finite element analysis (FEA)-based design process. Determination of the forming limits is considerably influenced by testing/measuring machines, techniques and conditions. These influences may cause a large scatter in FLD from laboratory to laboratory. Scatter is especially true when the ‘position-dependent method’, as is specified in most national and international standards, is used. In the current study a new ‘time-dependent method’ is proposed, which is to determine the forming limit strains more accurately and reasonably when producing a FLD from experimental data. This method is based on continual strain measurement during the test. The results are compared to those from the existing standardized methods.

  • In this paper, statistical properties of waves in the sea area of Pohang, Korea are examined absed on 1998-1999's wave data from directional wave buoy which is located Pohang(Janggigog). Wave data aquisition rate, monthly maximium, minimum and mean wave heights, frequency of wave direction are summarized. Wave height and period scatter diagrams and n-year return period wave heights are estimated. Wave periods of maximum wave heights are also estimated.

대학생의 SNS 중독경향성과 학습태도에 관한 탐색연구 (An Exploratory Study on Undergraduates' SNS Addiction Tendencies and Learning Attitudes)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend line through scatter diagram analysis on correlation between SNS addiction tendencies and learning attitudes, figure out the knee point influencing learning attitudes negatively in detail, and examine influence among subareas. To address the goal, study questions are formulated as follows. First, this author did screening on the data of variables measured and analyzed descriptive statistics. Second, this researcher produced the trend line by drawing a scatter diagram in order to analyze correlation between SNS addiction tendencies, withdrawal symptoms, excessive communication, and excessive time wasting, and learning attitudes exploratorily. Third, to explore correlation between self-evaluation, learning participation, and developmental attitudes, the subfactors of learning attitudes related to SNS addiction tendencies, this author drew a scatter diagram and analyzed the threshold of positive and negative correlation. To verify the study questions, the SNS addiction tendency scale and learning attitude scale were applied to 301 university students in Chungcheong area. According to the study results, first, their learning attitudes are influenced by SNS addiction tendencies, excessive communication and excessive time wasting, and they are not influenced by withdrawal symptoms that much. Second, excessive communication, a factor of SNS addiction tendencies, and self-evaluation and developmental attitudes, factors of learning attitudes, show positive correlation to some extent and indicate negative correlation after the threshold. However, excessive communication and learning participation are found to show no correlation. Third, according to the results of examining correlation with learning attitudes by dividing them into excessive communication and excessive time wasting groups with the knee point of 1.40, as the symptom of excessive communication is found more, it influences self-evaluation, learning participation, developmental attitudes, and learning attitudes more negatively in general. The result of this study is expected to provide foundational material necessary to develop educational programs to prevent undergraduates' excessive SNS use and SNS addiction which can be used in the scenes of counseling or education.

Fluctuating wind and wave simulations and its application in structural analysis of a semi-submersible offshore platform

  • A semi-submersible offshore platform always operates under complex weather conditions, especially wind and waves. It is vital to analyze the structural dynamic responses of the platform in short-term sea states under the combined wind and wave loads, which touches upon three following work. Firstly, a derived relationship between wind and waves reveals a correlation of wind velocity and significant wave height. Then, an Improved Mixture Simulation (IMS) method is proposed to simulate the time series of wind/waves accurately and efficiently. Thus, a wind-wave scatter diagram is expanded from the traditional wave scatter diagram. Finally, the time series of wind/wave pressures on the platform in the short-term sea states are converted by Workbench-AQWA. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed numerical methods are validated to be applicable for wind and wave simulations in structural analyses. The structural dynamic responses of the platform members increase with the wind and wave strength. In the up-wind and wave state, the stresses on the deck, the connections between deck and columns, and the connection between columns and pontoons are relatively larger under the vertical bending moment. These numerical methods and results are wished to provide some references for structural design and health monitoring of several offshore platforms.

에지 방향의 누적분포함수에 기반한 차선인식 (Lane Detection Based on a Cumulative Distribution function of Edge Direction)

  • This paper describes an image processing algorithm capable of recognizing the road lane using a CDF (Cumulative Distribution Function). which is designed for the model function of the road lane. The CDF has distinctive peak points at the vicinity of the lane direction because of the directional and positional continuities of the lane. We construct a scatter diagram by collecting the edge pixels with the direction corresponding to the peak point of the CDF and carry out the principal axis-based line fitting for the scatter diagram to obtain the lane information. As noises play the role of making a lot of similar features to the lane appear and disappear in the image we introduce a recursive estimator of the function to reduce the noise effect and a scene understanding index (SUI) formulated by statistical parameters of the CDF to prevent a false alarm or miss detection. The proposed algorithm has been implemented in a real time on the video data obtained from a test vehicle driven in a typical highway.

  • This paper describes an image processing algorithm capable of recognizing road lanes by using a CDF(cumulative distribution function). The CDF is designed for the model function of road lanes. Based on the assumptions that there are no abrupt changes in the direction and location of road lanes and that the intensity of lane boundaries differs from that of the background, we formulated the CDF, which accumulates the edge magnitude for edge directions. The CDF has distinctive peak points at the vicinity of lane directions due to the directional and the positional continuities of a lane. To obtain lane-related information a scatter diagram was constructed by collecting edge pixels, of which the direction corresponds to the peak point of the CDF, then the principal axis-based line fitting was performed for the scatter diagram. Noises can cause many similar features to appear and to disappear in an image.
