SiO2-coated magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2 NPs) were modified by 3-nitrobenzelidenmalononitrile and used as green linkages for removal of Hg2+ form the wastewater. In this research, it has been attempted to refer to the harmful effects of mercury ions for living things and how to remove such ions using very easy and practical technique. This study shows that by optimizing the test conditions, the efficiency of the removal of harmful ions such as mercury from the water contaminated with these ions can be increased. Conditions such as temperature, speed of agitation, pH of solution were tested for removal of mercury ions. The advantages of this method over other methods listed in the article are the rapid and easy nanocry synthesis. The generated and modified Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared and scanning electron microscopy spectroscopy. The results show that the synthesized magnetic nanoparticles have the excellent performance for the removal of mercury(II) ion from the waste water.
Sixty premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were divided into four groups, and the residual resin was removed with four different rotary finishing instruments at a fixed speed of $18,500{\pm}300 rpm$ on the low speed handpiece. The instruments were G1; No.169L carbide fissure bur, G2: No.2 round bur, G3; No.4 round bur, G4: No.8 round bur. Then, the enamel received a S-second polishing with a rubber cup and a pumice. To find the extent of loss on the enamel at this point, prophylaxis was done with the rubber cup and pumice prior to bonding of the bracket(P1) and removal of residual resin by means of appropriate procedure applicable to each respective group(P2) followed. The final polishing was done with the rubber cup and pumice(P3), and the enamel surface roughness was measured each by the surface measuring instrument. The whole process was observed under a scanning electron microscope to gain the following results: At P2, the enamel surface roughness in G1 showed most smoothly with $2.60{\pm}0.55{\mu}m;\;in\;G2,\;3.24{\pm}0.80{\mu}m;\;in\;G3,\;3.44{\pm}0.94{\mu}m;\;in\;G4,\;3.89{\pm}0.54{\mu}m$, the roughest. G2 and G3 showed no statistical significance(P>0.05). At P3, the enamel surface roughness in G1 showed most smoothly with $2.29{\pm}0.47{\mu}m;\;in\;G2,\;2.44{\pm}0.56{\mu}m;\;in\;G3,\;2.44{\pm}0.56{\mu}m;\;in\;G4,\;2.92{\pm}0.43{\mu}m$, the roughest. G1 vs G2, G3, and G2 vs G3 had no statistical significances(p>0.05). In all groups, P2 and P3 showed rougher in surface roughness than P1, and P2 rougher than P3(p<0.01). In a case of 5-second prophylaxis with the rubber cup and the pumice on a virgin, normal enamel, fine scratches were found under the scanning electron microscope. In all four groups, unremovable gouges remained even after polishing with the ubber and pumice; residual resin was not observed with naked eye when finished with the rubber and pumice, but the resin debris was observed under the scanning electron microscope.

Conventional Systems for parcel sorting consist of two sequences as loading the parcel into conveyor belt system and post-code input. Using bar code information, the parcels to be recorded and managed are recognized. This paper describes a 32 $\times$ 32 sized mini-block inspection to extract bar code Region of Interest (ROI) from the line Charged Coupled Device (CCD) camera capturing image of moving parcel at 2m/sec speed. Firstly, the Min-Max distribution of the mini-block has been applied to discard the background of parcel and region of conveying belts from the image. Secondly, the diagonal inspection has been used for the extraction of letters and bar code region. Five horizontal line scanning detects the number of edges and sizes and ROI has been acquired from the detection. The wrong detected area has been deleted by the comparison of group size from labeling processes. To correct excluded bar code region in mini-block processes and for analysis of bar code information, the extracted ROI 8 boundary points and decline distribution have been used with central axis line adjustment. The ROI extraction and central axis creation have become enable within 60~80msec, and the accuracy has been accomplished over 99.44 percentage.

IR cut-off thin films consisted of ATO nanoparticles were successfully fabricated by sol-gel method. The coating solution was synthesized with organic/inorganic hybrid binder and ATO colloidal solution and ATO thin films were coated on a slide glass with the withdrawal speed of 5~40 mm/s. As the withdrawal speed increased from 5 mm/s to 40 mm/s, the thickness of coating thin films also increased from $1.05{\mu}m$ to $4.25{\mu}m$ and the IR cut-off in wavelength of 780~2500 nm increased from 49.5 % to 66.7 %. In addition, the pencil hardness of ATO thin films dried at $80^{\circ}C$ was ca. 5H and the coating films were not removed after a cross cutter tape test because of the hybrid binder synthesized with tetraethylorthosilicate and methyltrimethoxysilane. The surface morphologies, optical properties and film thickness of prepared thin films with a different withdrawal speed were measured by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and Dektak.
In this in vitro study, confocal laser scanning microscopic morphology of dentin-resin interface and its relationship to shear bond strength were investigated after the exposed dentin surfaces were treated with 3 different kinds of dentin adhesive systems[three-step; Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus(SMPP), self-priming bonding resin; Single Bond(SB), self-etching primer; Clearfil Liner Bond 2(LB2)]. 52 extracted human molar teeth without caries and/or restorations. The experimental teeth were randomly divided into three groups of seventeen teeth each. In five teeth of each group, class V cavities(depth: 1.5mm) with 900 cavosurface angles were prepared at the cementoenamel junction on buccal and lingual surfaces. Bonding resins of each dentin adhesive system were mixed with rhodamine B. Primer of SMPP was mixed with fluorescein. In group 1. the exposed dentin was conditioned with etchant, applied with above primer and bonding resin of SMPP. In group 2, with etchant and self-priming bonding agent of SB. In group 3, with self-etching primer and bonding agent of LB2. After treatment with dentin adhesive systems, composite resin were applied and photocured. The experimental teeth were cut longitudinally through the center line of restoration and grounded so that about $90{\mu}m$-thick wafers of buccolingually orientated dentin were obtained. And, $70{\sim}80{\mu}m$-thick wafers sectioned horizontally, thus presenting a dentinal tubules at 900 to the cut surface of a remaining tooth, were obtained. Primer of SMPP mixed with rhodamine B was applied to these wafers. Confocal laser scanning microscopic investigations of these wafers were done within of 24 hours after treatment. To measure shear bond strength, the remaining twelve teeth of each group were grounded horizontally below the dentinoenamel junction, so that no enamel remained. After applying dentin adhesive systems on the dentin surface, composite was applied in the shape of cylinder. The cylinder was 5mm in diameter, and 2mm in thickness. Shear bond strength was measured using Instron with a cross-head speed of 0.5mm/min. It was concluded as follows ; 1. Hybrid layer of SMPP(mean: $4.56{\mu}m$) was thicker than that of any other groups. This value was not statistically significant thicker than that of SB(mean: $3.41{\mu}m$, p>0.05), and significant thicker than that of LB2(mean: $1.56{\mu}m$, p<0.05). There was a statistical difference between SB and LB2(p<0.05). 2. Although there were variations in the length of resin tag even in a sample, and in a group, most samples in SMPP and SB showed resin tags extending above $20{\mu}m$. But samples in LB2 showed resin tags of $10{\mu}m$ at best. 3. Besides primer's infiltration into demineralized peritubular dentin and dentinal tubules, fluorophore of primer was detected in the lateral branches of dentinal tubules. 4. All groups demonstrated statistically significant differences from one another(p<0.05), with shear bond strengths given in descending order as follows: SMPP(18.3MPa), SB(16.0MPa) and LB2(12.4MPa). 5. LB2 having thinnest hybrid layer($1.56{\mu}m$) showed the lowest shear bond strength(12.4MPa).

Instead of using CCl$_4$CCl$_2$F$_2$ gases, we used a alternative reaction gas of CFCs which we have developed, for the experiment of laser induced dry etching of laser induced dry etching of GaAs, and compared with the etch profile of a usual reation gas. Laser powers(power density) on the sample surface were varied from 100 mW(12.7 MW/$\textrm{cm}^2$) to 210mW(27 MW/$\textrm{cm}^2$) The laser beam was scanned over the sample by moving the cell with a speed raging from 8.3$\mu\textrm{m}$/sec and the gas pressure also was varied form 260 Torr to 760 Torr, High etching rates up to 136 $\mu\textrm{m}$/sec and an aspect ratio of 2.6 have been achieved by single scan of laser beam. The chemical compositions of the reaction products deposited on the etched groove were measured by Auger electron spectroscopy(AES) Etch profiles, including depth and width were observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)

Laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system is a non-contact scanning inspection device with high spatial resolution and wide bandwidth. The amplitude of laser-generated ultrasound is varied according to the energy of pulse laser and the surface conditions of an object where the CW measuring laser beam is pointing. In this paper, we correct the generating errors by measuring the energy of pulse laser beam and correct the measuring errors by extracting the gain information of laser interferometer at each time. h dynamic stabilizer is developed to stably scan on the surface of an object for an laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system. The developed system generates ultrasound after adaptively finding the maximum gain time of an laser interferometer and processes the signal in real time after digitization with high speed. In this paper, we describe hardware configuration and control algorithm to build a stable laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system. Also, we confirmed through experiments that the proposed correction method for the generating errors and measuring errors is effective to improve the performance of a system.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants of different surfaces, namely, machined (untreated), etched (acid-etched), RBM (treated with resorbable blasting media) and hybrid (RBM + machined), with respect to the following criteria: physical appearance of the surface, measurement of surface roughness, and insertion pattern. Methods: Self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants (Osstem implant, Seoul, Korea) with the abovementioned surfaces were obtained. Surface roughness was measured by using a scanning electron microscope and surface-roughness-testing machine, and torque patterns and vertical loadings were measured during continuous insertion of mini-implants into artificial bone (polyurethane foam) by using a torque tester of the driving-motor type (speed, 12 rpm). Results: The mini-implants with the RBM, hybrid, and acid-etched surfaces had slightly increased maximum insertion torque at the final stage ($p$ < 0.05). Implants with the RBM surface had the highest vertical load for insertion ($p$ < 0.05). Testing for surface roughness revealed that the implants with the RBM and hybrid surfaces had higher Ra values than the others ($p$ < 0.05). Scanning electron microscopy showed that the implants with the RBM surface had the roughest surface. Conclusions: Surface-treated, self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants may be clinically acceptable, if controlled appropriately.
The cascade face detector learned by Adaboost algorithm, which was proposed by Viola and Jones, is state of the art face detector due to its great speed and accuracy. In spite of its great performance, it still suffers from false alarms, and more computation is required to reduce them. In this paper, we want to reduce false alarms with less computation using facial color. Using facial color information, proposed face detection model scans sub-window efficiently and adapts a fast face/non-face classifier at the first stage of cascade face detector. This makes face detection faster and reduces false alarms. For facial color filtering, we define a facial color membership function, and facial color filtering image is obtained using that. An integral image is calculated from facial color filtering image. Using this integral image, its density of subwindow could be obtained very fast. The proposed scanning method skips over sub-windows that do not contain possible faces based on this density. And the face/non-face classifier at the first stage of cascade detector rejects a non-face quickly. By experiment, we show that the proposed face detection model reduces false alarms and is faster than the original cascade face detector.
The purposes of this study were to evaluate and compare the frequency of ceramic bracket fracture, frequency of enamel fracture, bond fracture site, adhesive remnant index after mechanical and electrothermal debracketing, to evaluate effectiveness of high and low speed rotary instrument and ultrasonic instrument during residual adhesive remnants removal, and to measure resin film surface(percentage) using by image analyser(Leco 300). Bond fracture site, bracket fracture, and enamel surface damage were examined by scanning electron microscope. The following results were obained : 1. In the mechanical debracketing group, the bond failed predominantly at enamel-adhesive interface with the bulk of adhesive remaining on bracket base. 2. In the eletrothermal debracketing group, the bond failed predominantly at adhesive-bracket interface with the bulk of adhesive remaining on enamel surface. 3. The most effectiveness of residual resin removal was obtained by means of the resin polishing bur and the order of scratch formation was the procedure using tungsten carbide bur, ultrasonic scaler, sof-lex disc, and polishing bur. 4. The order of the resin film surface percentage was ultrasonic scaler, tungsten carbide bur, sof-lex disc, and resin polishing bur.
