  • This paper reports on the development of a scanning probe microscopy(SPM) tip with caborn nanotubes. We used an electric field which causes dielectrophoresis(DEP), to align and deposit CNTs on a metal-coated SPM tip. Using the CNT attached SPM tip, we have obtained an enhanced resolution and wear property compared to that from the bare silicon tip through the scanning of the surface of the bio materials. The carbon nanotube tip align toward the source of the ion beam allowing their orientation to be changed at precise angles. By this technique, metal coated carbon nanotube tips that are several micrometer in length are prepared for scanning probe microscopy.

  • We introduce a new type of surface microscope using hydrodynamic phenomena. The fluid flow through the opening of the pipette probe is blocked at short distances between the probe and the surface, thus increasing the pressure loss. Therefore, a scanning flow impedance microscope (SFIM) can image the surface topology by scanning the probe with measuring the pressure loss. The SFIM can display the topology regardless of surface hardness, surface electrical conductivity, and surrounding fluid. The present letter contains the first experimental results on surface topography obtained with this novel microscope. The preliminary results in air demonstrate the lateral resolution of the SFIM is very close to the inner diameter of the probe.

  • A stack of gradient-index (GRIN) rod lenses cannot be used for coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microendoscopy for insertion to internal organs through a surgical keyhole with minimal invasiveness. That's because GRIN lens has large amount of inherent chromatic aberrations in spite of absolutely requiring a common focus for pump and Stokes beam with each frequency of ${\omega}_p$ and ${\omega}_S$. For this endoscopic purpose, we need to develop a long slender probe-type objective, namely probe-type microscope objective (PMO). In this paper, we introduce the structure, the working principle, and the design techniques of PMO which is composed of a probe-type lens module (PLM) and an adaptor lens module (ALM). PLM is first designed for a long slender type and ALM is successively designed by using several design parameters from PLM for eliminating optical discords between scanning unit and PLM. A combined module is optimized again to eliminate some coupling disparities between PLM and ALM for the best PMO. As a result, we can obtain a long slender PMO with perfectly diffraction-limited performance for pump beam of 817 nm and Stokes beam of 1064 nm.

  • We propose a precise 3D endoscopic technique for medical and industrial applications. As the 3D measuring principle, the continuously scanning structured illumination microscopy (CSSIM), which enables to obtain 3D sectional images by the synchronous axial scanning of the target with the lateral scanning of the sinusoidal pattern, is adopted. In order to reduce the size of the probe end, the illumination and detection paths of light are designed as coaxial and a coherent imaging fiber bundle is used for transferring the illumination pattern to the target and vice versa. We constructed and experimentally verified the proposed system with a gauge block specimen. As the result, it was confirmed that the 3D surface profile was successfully measured with $16.1{\mu}m$ repeatability for a gauge block specimen. In order to improve the contrast of the sinusoidal illumination pattern reflected off on the target, we used polarizing optical components and confirmed that the visibility of the pattern was suitable in CSSIM.
