  • A nano-stereolithouaphy (NSL) apparatus has been developed for fabrication of microstructures with the resolution of 150 nanometers. In the NSL process, a complicated 3D structure can be fabricated by building layer by layer, so it does not require any sacrificial layer or any supporting structure. A laminated layer was fabricated by means of solidifying liquid-state monomers using two-photon absorption (TPA) which was induced by a femtosecond laser. When the fabrication of a 3D laminated structure was finished, unsolidified liquid-stage resins were removed to develop the fabricated structure by dropping several droplets of solvent, then the polymerized structure was only left on the glass substrate. A microstructure is fabricated by vector scanning method to save the fabrication time. The shell thickness of a structure is very thin within 200 nm, when it is fabricated by a single contour scanning (SCS) path. So, a fabricated structure can be deformed easily in the developing process. In this work, a double contour scanning (DCS) method was proposed to reinforce the strength of a shell typed structure, and a microcup was fabricated to show the usefulness of the developed NSL system and the DCS method.

  • In order to deliver fixed partial denture to a patient successfully, dentist must take into many considerations beforehand. Patient's occlusal pattern should be fully understood before delivering any type of prosthesis, whether it's canine guidance or group function occlusion. In order to do so, movement of mandible should be recorded precisely. Introduced by Meyers in 1933, functionally generated path technique (FGP) has been successfully used to record mandibular movement with various materials, such as wax, and utilize it in fabricating precise prosthesis. In the following cases, patients showed secondary caries or endodontic-periodontic lesion on maxillary molars. Root canal treatment and subgingival curettage were done for each patient. Since the long term prognosis of each tooth was questionable, lateral force should be minimized. In order to do so, FGP technique was used to record mandibular movements precisely. Instead of using conventional plaster impression, intra-oral scanning of wax tracing was done to fabricate prosthesis efficiently. After delivery of fixed partial denture, favorable outcome was obtained.

  • Micromachining using the DPSS 3rd Harmonic Laser (355nm) has outstanding advantages as a UV source in comparison with Excimer lasers in various aspects such as maintenance cost, maskless machining, high repetition rate and so on. It also has the greater absorptivity of many materials in contrast to other IR sources. In this paper, the process for micro-drilling of blind hole in Cu/PI/Cu substrate with the DPSS UV laser and the scanning device is investigated by the experimental methods. It is known that there is a large gap between the ablation threshold of copper and that of PI. We use the Archimedes spiral path for the blind hole with different energy densities to ablate the different material. Finally, the blind via hole of diameter 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 50$\mu\textrm{m}$ was drilled.

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realized the automatic weld seam tracking. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes an to obtain specific weld points. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The dead zone, where the sensing of weld line is impossible, was eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at the weld torch. When weld lines were detected, the camera angle was controlled in order to get the minimum image data for sensing of weld lines. Consequently, the image processing time was reduced.

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realize the automatic weld seam tracking in GMAW. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter and arc tight. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes and to obtain specific weld points. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path and to obtain the information such as width and depth of weld line. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

  • A CCD-camera, which is structured with vision system, was used to realize automatic seam-tracking system and 3-D information which is needed to generate torch path, was obtained by using laser-slip beam. To extract laser strip and obtain welding-specific point, Adaptive Hough-transformation was used. Although the basic Hough transformation takes too much time to process image on line, it has a tendency to be robust to the noises as like spatter. For that reson, it was complemented with Adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning a welding-specific point. the dead zone, where the sensing of weld line is impossible, is eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at welding torch. The camera angle is controlled so as to get the minimum image data for the sensing of weld line, hence the image processing time is reduced. The fuzzy controller is adapted to control the camera angle.

  • Presented in this study is an algorithmic procedure to obtain polyhedral model from a compound surface. The compound surface in this study denotes a collection of trimmed surfaces without topological relations. The procedure consists of two main modules: CAD data interface, and surface conversion to polyhedral model. The interface module gets geometric information from CAD databases, and makes topological information by scanning the geometric information. We are investigating CATIA system as a data source system. In the surface conversion module, a shell(compound surface with topological information) is approximated to a triangular-faceted polyhedral surface model through node sampling and triangulation steps. The obtained polyhedral model should obey the vertex-to-vertex rule and meet tolerance requirements. Since the polyhedral model has a simple data structure and geometry processing for it is very efficient and robust, the polyhedral model can be used in various applications, such as surface rendering in computer graphics, FEM model for engineering analysis, CAPP for surface machining, data generation for SLA, and NC tool path generation.

  • Ni-base superalloy has excellent resistance to extreme environments such as high temperatures and high stresses and are used as materials for large gas turbines. In this paper, the specimens were taken from the blade that were used for a long time, and their life span was studied by microstructure analysis and avoidance of cursing. The microstructural analysis of the specimens was carried out using a OM and SEM to observe the coarsening, carbides on gamma prime. Low-cycle fatigue tests were performed on new material and airfoil of long time-used blade. The test was conducted under various deformation conditions and temperature conditions of $760^{\circ}C$ and $870^{\circ}C$. The low cycle fatigue test was carried out using the Coffin-Manson equation and the fatigue life was predicted. After the test, crack path and fracture surface were analyzed using SEM.

  • An inexpensive and very simple microcomputer-aided measurement system has been designed for on-line experiments, which perform simultaneously data acquisition, data recorditing, calculations with the data, and positioning of necessary sensors. Interfacting between the microcomputer and the data acquisition board which consists of A/D converter, analog multiplexer, and sample-and-holder, etc. has been done through IEEE-488 interface port and parallel user port both provided by the PET computer's main logic board. Data and control signals are transfered between devices without handshaking. By utilizing BASIC commands PEEK, POKE, SYS, USR which are offered by PET microcomputer, it is possible to link machine code subroutines into the main BASIC program. This facilitates ease of data transfer, programming, and speedy execution of the program. In addition, an X-Y scanning table has been concected to the system in order to automatically position measuring sensors along a pre-determined path of interest.

  • We use a scanning tunneling microscope based break-junction technique to measure the conductance of a 4,4'-dimethoxybiphenyl molecular junction formed with Ag and Au electrodes. We observe the formation of a clear molecular junction with Ag electrodes that result from stable Ag-oxygen bonding structures. However we have no molecular bonding formation when using Au electrodes, resulting in a tunneling current between the top and bottom metal electrodes. We also see a clear peak in the conductance histogram of the Ag-oxygen molecular junctions, but no significant molecular features are seen with Au electrodes. Our work should open a new path to the conductance measurements of single-molecule junctions with oxygen linkers.
