A method to determine the trace level of arsenic in scalp hair by the hydride generation(HG)-inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry is described. The optimum conditions for the generation of arsine($AsH_3$), and the interference effects from the concomitant ions were studied. Severe interference effect from Ni(II) is circumvented by the coprecipitation of arsenic with $La(OH)_3$. The detection limit of arsenic is 0.3ppm and the arsenic contents in scalp hair ranged 10~20ppb.

It is well known to use scalp hair as a signal of strengths of heavy metals contamination. In this paper, using the multivariate methods we examine the relationship between strengths of cadmium and mercury in scalp hair and cerebellum, cerebrum, heart, kidney, liver, lung and spleen from 61 korean autopsy subjects. As a result, there is statistically singnificant relationship between strengths of mercury contamination in scalp hair and secondary contaminated organs.

This study examined the efficacy of restraining the increase of the bacteria colony of scalp according to the application of the Ayurvedic base oils and essential oils to scalp and hair. The result is as follows. The experiment illustrated that as the result of doing the paired sample t-test of a treated group and a control group according to constitutional oiling, the efficacy of the statistically significant decrease of the colony manifested in six tested groups except the group of Pitta constitution to which sesame and lavender were applied. Also, in a group that sesame was applied to Vata constitution and a group that coconut and lavender were applied to Pitta constitution, according to the passage of time, the result of being reduced the number of the colony was obtained and it showed that the oiling suitable for each constitution has the efficacy to decrease the colony of scalp. At the same time, regardless of the constitutions, the application of oils also showed the efficacy of restraining the increase of the bacteria colony of scalp. As the result of performing Paired Sample t-test for the subjective evaluation of the subjects in pre and post clinical testing, In the analysis of questionnaire that were obtained before and after the clinical testing, the results of all of the items except the item questioning a degree of inflammation appeared to be significant. That is to say, the subjects answered that a degree of keratin or a pain in scalp, an amount of sebum and a degree of hair damage were decreased after the application of oil more than before it. And in the question of a degree of hair damage, the application of oils were proved as having the efficacy to improve the hair damage.

Objectives : With increasing interests in hair cosmetic to keep their scalp and hair healthy we must have much more information about the oriental medical cosmetic goods. Methods : Shampoos which contain herbal ingredients are commonly used to stopping their hair loss, alopecia. On the basis of oriental pharmacology, we analyzed several shampoos which have herbal ingredients and thought about the oriental cosmetic methods for a hair loss. Results : We found that many herb based shampoos are developed on the basis of the principle of oriental medicine. In addition, the interest in oriental medical cosmetic methods that used the principles of the oriental medical science has been increased and cosmetic goods based on the oriental medicine have a positive market. Conclusions : With many possibilities for the oriental medical cosmetic methods, clinical records to prove scientific facts are urgently needed. In addition, the oriental medical cosmetic methods based on oriental medicine to examine scalp and hair should be offered.

The effect of natural products(drug 1, drug 2) on hair growth of frontal scalp of ten stumptailed macaques was investigated in period of 12 months. Drug 1 conteins extracts of Angelica gigantis Radix ok. and drug 2 conteins extracts of Corm Fructus, etc. Photographs of close view of the frontal scalp were taken once every month and folliclogram analysis has been done at pretretment and on 5th, 10th and 12th month after treatment. Drug 1 showed only slight effect or no effect on hair growth and drug 2 exhibited a significant degree of hair regrowth, but the control group exhibited a definite degree of regrowth and increasing density of vellum hair. Also, the physiological parameters, such as body weight, blood pressure, heart rate, serum levels of androgens, hematological measures during the treatment of drug 1, drug 2, and vehicle, were within normal limits. It indicates the drug 2 is the possible appearance of new summit of hair growth.

The concentration of zinc of the Reumatoid Arthritis patients has been determined by ICP-AES, and the analytical results are discussed. It is observed that the zinc concentration is largely affected by the length of scalp hair. The concentrations of zinc in the distal end are much higher than that of the proximal end.

An atomic absorption spectrophotometry analysis study of zinc, cadimium, lead, copper and mercury in human scalp hair samples of 699 subjects in 3 urban and 4 rural communities gave mean values of 170.33/187.00 ppm, 0.18/0.22 ppm, 8.43/8.62 ppm, 9.81/10.24 ppm and 2.13/1.20 ppm for male and female, respectively. The concentration did not differ significantly regardless ages. However, female was higher than male in overall concentration except that of mercury. The percentile methods was partially applied for a reference values of metals in Korean scalp hair to provide more appropriate data for further comparisons.

Extensive avulsion of the scalp, or stripping of a large area of soft tissue from the skull, is a serious accidnet. The avulsed scalp is often injured otherwise, such as by crushing, tearing, or from multiple laceration. The surrounding skin may be devitalized. Replacement of the scalp is usually followed by necrosis and sloughing within a short time. In such instances, the outer table of the cranium may become sucessively exposed. dry, dead, and affected by osteomyelitis. Hence the securing of early healing to prevent these is of the utmost importance. The successful case of reimplantation of the completely avulsed scalp, which is exposured to air for about 14 hours, is reported, in which there was partial growth of hair afterwards. The avulsed scalp caused by her long hair being caught in a grain belt was contaminated with hairs & dust. Authors treated this 19-year old female patient by split thickness skin graft, intermediate skin graft, full thickness skin graft from her own avulsed scalp.

In recent years, the number of people suffering from depression due to hair loss has been increasing. The treatment methods such as clinical pathology and vanity surgery have been developed. There are therapies and materials for hair growth promotion and hair loss prevention. But the effectiveness of such therapies and materials is not fully evaluated and some side-effects have been reported. In this study, microneedle therapy using very thin and delicate needles promotes absorption of drug. During this therapy, the microneedle makes micro holes that help absorbion of drugs into the scalp. In this study, absorbion of fermented soybean were evaluated. The ingredient has antioxidant, antiandrogen, and antithrombosis effect for alopecia. The fermented soybean is more effective for complex hair loss when used with microneedle. It is because of the microneedle's excellent drug delivery system (DDS). This therapy that increases the absorption of fermented soybean is a very useful scalp care method which prevents, treats and controls alopecia. This microneedle therapy using fermented soybean is an advanced technology for scalp care.

In this study, we developed a scalp protect powder (scalp irritation abirritant). We proved this powder can lessen sensitivity of skin against diamine dyes (PPD, PTD, etc.) by carrying out safety test and clinical experiments. This scalp protect powder accelerates dyeing process, and reduces not only scalp irritation but also hair damage. Using our optimum formula, ammonia can be caught in liquid-crystalline structure, subsequently, bad odor is reduced dramatically.
