  • The transient response in PDFA(Praseodymium-Doped Fiber Amplifier) is theoretically investigated. The PDFA has the spectral gain band in 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The transient model includes the transient buildup of the population inversion, the pump power, and the signal power and their transient variation along the fiber amplifier. The numerical analysis of transient model can predict the gain saturation, the variation of pump power and the gain as a function of the fiber length. It also shows the gain saturation and recovery effects depending on the pumping rate lead to distortion and saturation in the amplification of optical pulse. The results of numerical analysis, for the case of the Pr ion concentration of 1000ppm and the pump power of 0.5W the gain saturation is obtained 30dB at the length of 5m and the saturation time of upper level is 250 $mutextrm{s}$.

Performance analysis and saturation bound research of cyclic-quorum multichannel MAC protocol based on Markov chain model

  • In high diversity node situation, single-channel MAC protocols suffer from many collisions. To solve this problem, the research of multichannel MAC protocol has become a hotspot. And the cyclic quorum-based multichannel (CQM) MAC protocol outperformed others owing to its high frequency utilization. In addition, it can avoid the bottleneck that others suffered from and can be easily realized with only one transceiver. To obtain the accurate performance of CQM MAC protocol, a Markov chain model, which combines the channel hopping strategy of CQM protocol and IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF), is proposed. The metrics (throughput and average packet transmission delay) are calculated in performance analysis, with respect to node number, packet rate, channel slot length and channel number. The results of numerical analysis show that the optimal performance of CQM protocol can be obtained in saturation bound situation. And then we obtain the saturation bound of CQM system by bird swarm algorithm (BSA). Finally, the Markov chain model and saturation bound are verified by Qualnet platform. And the simulation results show that the analytic and simulation results match very well.

Effects of Abdominal Breathing Practice on Oxygen Saturation and Pulserate for Insomnia in Middle-aged Women (복식호흡 수련이 중년여성의 불면증 산소포화도와 맥박에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: Studies on the effect of abdominal or thoracic breathing therapy on sleep or blood oxygen concentration are still scarce. Purpose: This study was to examine the effect on blood oxygen saturation and pulse variability, changes in the severity of insomnia, changes in wakefulness before sleep, and dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes toward the Korean version of sleep in women in their 50s after healing with abdominal breathing and thoracic breathing. We investigated the effect. Methods: Subjects were investigated before and after the change of breathing (breathing) therapy for 12 weeks, 3 times a week, and 36 breaths perweek. Results: It wa evaluated respiratory healing as having no significance in the pulse rate change. However, oxygen saturation was significant in the experimental group, increasing to 93.60 SpO2% before the respiratory rally and 96.5 SpO2% after respiratory recovery (p < .002). In addition, the insomnia severity scale and dysfunctional beliefs about sleep significantly decreased after respiratory rally than before (p < .000). Conclusions: It evaluated that respiratory therapy for the subjects is beneficial to health as it is effective for insomnia, pulse, and oxygen saturation.

Applying the ANFIS to the Analysis of Rain and Dark Effects on the Saturation Headways at Signalized Intersections (강우 및 밝기에 따른 신호교차로 포화차두시간 분석에의 적응 뉴로-퍼지 적용)

  • The Saturation headway is a major parameter in estimating the intersection capacity and setting the signal timing. But Existing algorithms are still far from being robust in dealing with factors related to the variation of saturation headways at signalized intersections. So this study apply the fuzzy inference system using ANFIS. The ANFIS provides a method for the fuzzy modeling procedure to learn information about a data set, in order to compute the membership function parameters that best allow the associated fuzzy inference system to track the given input/output data. The climate conditions and the degree of brightness were chosen as the input variables when the rate of heavy vehicles is 10-25 %. These factors have the uncertain nature in quantification, which is the reason why these are chosen as the fuzzy variables. A neuro-fuzzy inference model to estimate saturation headways at signalized intersections was constructed in this study. Evaluating the model using the statistics of $R^2$, MAE and MSE, it was shown that the explainability of the model was very high, the values of the statistics being 0.993, 0.0289, 0.0173 respectively.

Regulation of autonomic functions following two high frequency yogic breathing techniques

  • Yoga is an ancient Indian system of life, encompassing various practices including practices for self-discipline and also for regulating the health states of the individual, being practiced for thousands of years. The present study aims at understanding the effect of two high frequency breathing practices over autonomic nervous system. Forty healthy male volunteers of age $21{\pm}2$ years with $9{\pm}3$ months of Yoga practice experience were recruited. The two high frequency Yoga breathing practices, kapalabhati (KB) and bhastrika (BH) were given as interventions randomly on either of the two days to minimise laboratory bias. They were assessed before and immediately after the interventions for heart rate, respiratory rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood pressure and peripheral oxygen saturation. There was a significant increase in heart rate (p<0.01; p<0.001), systolic blood pressure (p<0.01; p<0.001), NN50 (p<0.01; p<0.001) component of HRV for both KB and BH groups respectively. There was a significant reduction in respiratory rate in both the groups (p<0.001, and p<0.05, BH and KB respectively) immediately following intervention. A significant increase in LF component of HRV and reduction in Diastolic blood pressure and high frequency (HF)component following KB was also observed (p<0.05, for all comparisons). The Mean peripheral oxygen saturation remained unaltered in both the groups (p>0.05).The results suggest that high frequency yoga breathing practices induce physiological arousal immediately as evidenced by increased blood pressure and heart rate. The sympathetic arousal was more following KB session as evidenced by an increased diastolic blood pressure, LF power and a decrease in HF power of HRV as compared to the BH session.

Differences of Blood Oxygen Saturation between 20s and 60s due to Amount of Highly Concentrated Oxygen Administration (고농도 산소 공급량에 따른 20대와 60대의 혈중 산소 포화도의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine differences between 20s and 60s in blood oxygen saturation due to 93% oxygen administration of the three levels(1L/min, 3L/min, 5L/min). Ten 20s male($25.0{\pm}1.8$ years), ten 20s female($23.7{\pm}1.9$ years), ten 60s male($68.0{\pm}2.6$ years), and ten 60s female($65.5{\pm}3.1$ years) were selected as the subjects for this study. The oxygen supply equipment(OXUS Co.) provided oxygen by supply rate(i.e., 1L/min, 3L/min, and 5L/min) at a constant rate of 93% oxygen. The experiment consisted of three phases, i.e., Prehyperoxia(5min), Hyperoxia(10min), and Post-hyperoxia(5min). Blood oxygen saturation were measured throughoutthe three phases. By increasing the amount of highly concentrated oxygen administration, blood oxygen saturation was increased. Blood oxygen saturation of 20s was higher than 60s. Blood oxygen saturation was greater during Hyperoxia than during Pre- and Post-hyperoxia. However, rising rate of blood oxygen saturation of 60s by oxygen administration was higher than 20s.

Effect of Air Circulation Velocity on the Rate of Lumber Drying in a Small Compartment Wood Drying Kiln (소형 목재인공건조실에 있어서 공기순환속도가 목재건조율에 미치는 영향)

This study indicates that above the fiber saturation point the drying rate can be increased with increasing the velocity of the air circutation, i.e., the drying rate of sample boards is proportional to the air velocity, but below the fiber saturation point, the effect of the velocity of air circulation is very low as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. 2. Under the controlled temperature and humidity in the kiln, the more the sample boards have moisture, the higher drying rate of it can be obtained. In other words, this means that even though in the case of drying various moisture content of wood, at the final drying stage, approximately the same percentage of moisture content of wood can be secured by employing the higher velocity of air circulation. 3. This study shows that the rate of drying in kiln changes distinctly at the fiber saturation point, i, e., above the fiber saturation point, the drying curve shows concave aginst the X axsis, but below the fiber saturation point, in the range from 30 percent of moisture content to 20 percent of moisture content, the curve shows convex as shown in Fig. 3. As the drying progresses, however, the drying curve shows concave again below 20 percent of moisture content. This means that inflection point of drying curve may be located clearly at the fiber saturation point, i.e., 30 percent of moisture content. As mentioned above, the 30 percent of moisture content of wood at which the inflectional point appears can be recognized as a critical point, i. e., the fiber saturation point at which all free water was removed from wood. The existence of inflectional point indicates that the evaporation of hygroscopic water in a cell wall is more difficult than the evaporation of free water in a cell cavity and the minor space of cell wall. The convex curve in the range of moisture content from 30 percent to 20 percent means that the evaporation of capillary condensed water has a tendency of the same rates of drying approximately, but as approaching to the 20 percent of moisture, the transfusion of moisture from wood becomes difficult because of having less moisture in cell wall. Below 20 percent of moisture content, the drying curve shows concave again, which means that it is difficult to remove the moisture located nearer to the surface of cellulose molecules and the surface bound water. These relations were revealed in Fig. 4. In comparison AC curve which does not have the two inflection points with BD curve which has two inflection points, i.e., Band D, they are mentioned already, by existence of the inflection points, the curve BD shows that the change of drying rate in the interval from 20 percent of moisture content to 30 percent of moisture content is not greater than in the case of the curve AC in the same interval. At the inflection point of 30 percent of moisture content, it can be noticed that the changing of the drying rate is very conspicuous. This phenomenon also can be recognized, as it is noticed by the Fig. 3, the drying rate from green to 30 percent of moisture content is very great. But the inclination of the curve is very slow from 30 percent of moisture content to 20 percent of moisture content, i.e., the inclination of the curve becomes almost horizontal lines. Real-time Vital Signs Measurement System using Facial Image Data (안면 이미지 데이터를 이용한 실시간 생체징후 측정시스템)

  • The purpose of this study is to present an effective methodology that can measure heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, respiration rate, mental stress level, and blood pressure using mobile front camera that can be accessed most in real life. Face recognition was performed in real-time using Blaze Face to acquire facial image data, and the forehead was designated as ROI (Region Of Interest) using feature points of the eyes, nose, and mouth, and ears. Representative values for each channel of the ROI were generated and aligned on the time axis to measure vital signs. The vital signs measurement method was based on Fourier transform, and noise was removed and filtered according to the desired vital signs to increase the accuracy of the measurement. To verify the results, vital signs measured using facial image data were compared with pulse oximeter contact sensor, and TI non-contact sensor. As a result of this work, the possibility of extracting a total of six vital signs (heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, stress, and blood pressure) was confirmed through facial images.

EFFECT OF SUPPLEMENTARY INTRANASAL MIDAZOLAM ON ORAL SEDATION OF CHILDREN (미다졸람의 비강 내 추가투여가 소아의 경구 진정요법에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of supplementary intranasal midazolam on oral sedation of children The purpose of this study was to compare the cardiopulmonary parameters of two sedation regimens during dental treatment: (1) Oral chloral hydrate(CH) and hydroxyzine(HZ) with nitrous oxide-oxygen($N_2O/O_2$) inhalation(CH-HZ group); (2) Oral chloral hydrate(CH) and hydroxyzine(HZ) with nitrous oxide-oxygen($N_2O/O_2$) inhalation and supplementary intranasal(IN) midazolam administration(MIDA group). Among the patients of OO hospital who received dental treatment under sedation over the past 5 years, 44 patients were selected for each group of CH-HZ and MIDA according to their age, gender and weight. Following parameters that were recorded every 5 minutes were compared: 1) Heart rate(HR) 2) $O_2$ saturation 3) End tidal carbon dioxide concentration($EtCO_2$) 4) Respiratory rate(RR) 33 patients of Group MIDA who have complete data of 15 minutes before and after supplementary IN midazolam administration were selected. And measurements 15 minutes before and after midazolam administration in same patient were evaluated. The results were as follows: 1. Heart rate was significantly higher in MIDA group than in CH-HZ group, but it was within normal range. 2. Comparing HR, $O_2$ saturation, EtCO2, RR between before and after of supplementary IN midazolam administration in the same patient, the differences were not statistically significant.

Experimental Study on the Characteristics of CO2 Capture with Spray Towers Using Ammonia Solution (암모니아수 흡수제를 사용하는 분무탑의 이산화탄소 포집 기본특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Experiments were conducted to identify basic characteristics of $CO_2$ capture using a spray tower with a single nozzle. Results were evaluated in terms of $CO_2$ saturation which is the main determining factor of regeneration energy, and capture efficiency under various operating conditions. Changes in the capture efficiency under various conditions are well expressed as a monotone increasing function of the relative solvent $(NH_3):CO_2$ flow rate. Although changes in $CO_2$ saturation are also well described as a function of the $NH_3/CO_2$ flow rate ratio, these are expressed as a monotone decreasing function, in contrast with the increasing function of $CO_2$ efficiency. In recent research on the relationship between $CO_2$ saturation and capture efficiency, $CO_2$ saturation was found to decrease when capture efficiency increased. In conclusion, the results show that the amount of solvent used for achieving high capture efficiencies is excessive, as is the amount of regeneration energy needed.
