  • The design of joints in a transformer core significantly affects the transformer's efficiency. Air gaps cause variations in the flux distribution at the joints of the laminations, which depend on the geometry. Two similar samples consisting of electrical steel strips and amorphous ribbons were made. The spatial flux distributions were determined using an array of search coils for each sample. 2D models of these samples were created and examined by finite element analysis. The magnetic flux distribution for each lamination in the samples was computed. The results show that the flux density in amorphous ribbons above and below the air gap starts to approach saturation at lower flux density levels than for electrical steel. The flux density measured using the search coil under the air gap is increased in amorphous ribbons and decreased in the electrical steel with increasing frequency.

  • One dimensional numerical modeling was carried out for the melting behavior of dry snow and the unsaturated flow when heat was supplied from the bottom surface. Discrepancy between the previous experimental data and the present numerical results is substantially reduced by considering the density change of water permeation layer due to the infiltration of meltwater. In the parametric study for effective thermal conductivity, it was found that the effect of this parameter to the behavior of snow melting is minor. Sensitivity analysis showed that the melting time is most sensitive to changes in supplied heat flux, snow temperature, and bulk density, whereas snow bulk density and residual saturation have a significant effect on the height of water permeation layer in snow.

  • Amplifier linearity plays a major role in the quality of mordern communication systems. The Power amplifier should be operated near saturation region to achieve high efficiency But at this region amplitude and phase distortions of the amplifier remarkably increase with the input power increase and cause a significant adjacent channel interference. In this paper, an independently controllable AM/AM and AM/PM predistortion linearizers consisted of two bias feed resistance linearizers is proposed. This linearizer allows independent adjustment of the AM/AM and AM/PM curves by using two adjustable voltages to compensate tile power amplifier non-linearities. The predistortion linearizer can improve the ACPR by 5.3dB with cdma2000 multi carrier signals. And by applying this linearizer to two-tone(880MHz) power amplifier, third order IMD products are improved up to 8(dB).

  • Current characteristic curve of an illuminated solar cell was used to determine its reverse saturation current density ($J_0$), ideality factor (n) and resistances, by using numerical diode simulation. High efficiency amorphous silicon, heterojunction crystalline Si (HIT), plastic and organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cell shows n=3.27 for a-Si and n=2.14 for improved HIT cell as high and low n respectively, while the perovskite and plastic cells show n=2.56 and 2.57 respectively. The $J_0$ of these cells remain within $7.1{\times}10^{-7}$ and $1.79{\times}10^{-8}A/cm^2$ for poorer HIT and improved perovskite solar cell respectively.

  • Dynamic models of line regulator valve(LRV) and ratio control valve (RCV) are obtained for an electronic controlled CVT. LRV and RCV are operated by variable force solenoid(VFS). Considering the CVT shift dynamics, oil pump's efficiency and saturation characteristics of VFS, simulations are performed and compared with test results. Simulation results are in good agreement with the experiments, which shows the validity of the dynamic models of LRV and RCV obtained. In addition, the effects of the orifice size in the exhaust port of RCV are investigated. Simulation results show that as the orifice size decreases, the residual pressure in the primary actuator increases which insures the large torque transmission capacity, meanwhile the duration time for the downshift increases.

  • In this paper, we present an analytical method for estimating the saturation throughput of an 802.11 ad hoc LAN in the presence of noise distorting transmitted frames. This is the first method that allows studying analytically the 802.11 network performance with consideration of correlated channel failures usually inherent to realistic wireless channels. With the study, we consider the possible packet fragmentation that can be adopted to reduce the performance degradation caused by noise-induced distortions. In addition to the throughput, our method allows estimating the probability of a packet rejection occurring when the number of packet transmission retries attains its limit. The obtained numerical results of investigating 802.11 LANs by the developed method are validated by simulation and show high estimation accuracy as well as the method efficiency in determining the optimal fragmentation threshold.

  • This study investigates the dynamic characteristics of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM), with segmental rotor structure, using finite element method in which the moving mesh technique is considered. The focus of this paper is the efficiency of on-line parameter identification system for position sensorless control of a SynRM under saturation and iron loss. Comparisons are given with angle of the observer and those of proposed FEM & Preisach model of synchronous reluctance motor, respectively. The position sensorless control using identified motor parameters is realized, and the effective of the on-line parameter identification system is verified by experimental results.

  • A new readout circuit(ROIC) for linear HgCdTe 64${\times}$2 two-color Infrared (IR) detector is described. This circuit is based on the buffered direct injection(BDI) technology with high injection efficiency. By using saturation current isolation circuit, the proposed ROIC removed the problems that LWIR(Long Wavelength InfraRed) signal distort when MWIR(Middle Wavelength InfraRed) signal saturates so that new ROIC has larger measurable temperature range about 120k than that of previous circuit and it is also tolerant for dead pixel in MWIR detector. The designed circuit was fabricated using 0.6um 2-poly 3-metal CMOS process. We measured that the designed circuit outputs MWIR signal and LWIR signal simultaneously and saturation current isolationcircuit also operates well. Next, measured noise was about 53uV at room temperature and it can be assumed that designed circuit can satisfy nearly 95% BLIP condition at 77K.

  • COSMOS system which was developed in Seoul for real-time signal control was designed to judge traffic condition for practicing signal operation. However, it occurs efficiency problem that stop line detection and queue length detection could not judge overflow saturation of street. For that reason, following research process GPS data of Seoul city's corporationowned taxi to calculate travel speed that excluded existing system of stop line detection and queue length detection. Also, "Research of calculating queue length by GPS data" which was progressed with following research expressed queue length. It is based on establishing algorithm of judging congestion situation. The algorithm was applied to a few areas where appeared congestion situation consistently to confirm real time traffic condition with established network. • Many urban cities deployed ITS technologies to improve the efficiency of traffic operation and management including a real-time franc control system (i.e., COSMOS). The system adopted loop detector system to collect traffic information such as volume, occupancy time, degree of saturation, and queue length. This paper investigated the applicability of detector information within COSMOS to represent the congestion level of the links. Initially, link travel times obtained from the field study were related with each of detector information. Results showed that queue length was highly correlated with link travel time, and direct link travel time estimation using the spot speed data produced high estimation error rates. From this analysis, a procedure was proposed to estimate congestion level of the links using both degree of saturation and queue length information.
