The Effect of Psychological Well-Being on Life Satisfaction for Employees

  • Purpose - This study investigated small business members' cognition of happiness in accordance with changes of employment environment at the nation's industrialization. The study verified effects of labor workers' psychological wellbeing conditions upon life satisfaction as well as the effects of job burden and family burden of employment instability. Research design, data, and methodology - The subjects were small business workers in Seoul and Metropolitan areas. The author collected 150 copies of effective questionnaires. Regression analysis, hierarchical analysis and 3-stage mediation regression analysis were done. Results - The findings of this research was that psychological wellbeing factors alleviated job burden and family burden to increase satisfaction with life. Employment instability moderated between job burden and satisfaction with life, job burden between environmental control and satisfaction with life, and family burden between goal and satisfaction of life. Members needed sub factors of psychological wellbeing, especially reflection for self-acceptance. Conclusions - This study inspected effects of small business workers' psychological wellbeing upon life satisfaction at changes of management environment as well as labor environment to verify effects of job burden, family burden and employment instability and to find out conditions of human resources management from point of view of small business and workers.

The Mediating Effect of Anxiety on the Relationship between Internet Game Addiction and Life Satisfaction: Focusing on Male University Students in Harbin, China (인터넷 게임중독이 불안을 매개로 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향: 중국 하얼빈 지역 남자 대학생을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to review Chinese policy on internet game addiction, and understand the level of internet game addiction, anxiety, and life satisfaction levels, and examine how game addiction affects life satisfaction with anxiety as a medium among male university students in China. In order to achieve the goals of the study, a survey was conducted on 240 male university students in Harbin, China. The research results are as follows. First, the internet game addiction level of male university students was at a relatively low level. Only 2.9% scored over 36 points, the litmus test for the category of clinical criterion, whereas the majority belonged to the general user group. Meanwhile, anxiety was at an intermediate level, along with a relatively high level of life satisfaction. Next, internet game addiction showed a positive correlation with anxiety, and a negative correlation with life satisfaction level. A negative correlation was found between anxiety and life satisfaction level. Lastly, anxiety was found to play a complete mediation role, as a mediator variable between internet game addiction and life satisfaction level. Based on the above results, policy and practical suggestions are proposed to improve the mental health of university students and to prevent and treat game addiction within China.

The Factors Affecting Early Retired Men's Subjective Life Satisfaction (조기은퇴남성의 주관적 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향요인 분석)

  • Using the first wave of KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing) beta version, this study analyzed factors affecting early retired men's subjective life satisfaction through Binary Logit and Multiple Regression. Total 552 men were selected as a sample. The main results of empirical analysis in this study were as follows: The retirement reason(health-) and monthly household income(+) affected whether they were satisfied with the retirement life or not and subjective life satisfaction over all. Especially, the retirement reason(health-) had a stronger effect on whether early retired min were satisfied with the retirement life or not and their subjective life satisfaction than monthly household income revealed significant variable in previous studies. This result represents that the retiree's life satisfaction analysis model must include retiree's characteristics at the time of retirement as well as retiree's current status characteristics or socio-economic characteristics.

Life Satisfaction of the Poor-health Elderly (거동불편 노인의 생활 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate relationships among life satisfaction of the elderly in poor health conditions, their self esteem, health and financial status, family relationships, and social participation. A structured questionnaire was used to interview 228 elderly who were randomly selected from Sungbuk-ku, Seoul. The regression analysis showed the most powerful predictors of life satisfaction of the poor-health elderly were self esteem, relationships with their adult children, perceived financial status, relationships with grandchildren, and the amount of allowances in that order These variables accounted for 39% of life satisfaction of the sample.

The Mediating Effect of the Satisfaction with Life in the Influence of the Perception of Physical Environment Characteristics on the Settlement Consciousness of the Elderly (거주지역의 물리적 환경특성에 대한 인식이 고령자의 정주의식에 미치는 영향에서의 삶의 만족도의 매개효과)

  • This study purposes to examine direct effects of the physical environments and indirect effects of the satisfaction with life on the settlement consciousness of the aged, using the raw data of 2015 Busan Social Survey. The 5,324 cases were selected from the raw data of those more than 65 years old. The results were as following: (1) When age, spouse with/without, diseases with/without, length of residence, and number of communicating persons were controlled, the satisfaction with housing, the number of cultural facilities, and public transportation availability affected directly on the settlement consciousness of the aged, but the levels of the satisfaction with the number of parks were not directly correlated with it. (2) The satisfaction with housing and public transportation affected indirectly on the settlement consciousness through the satisfaction with life. That is, the satisfaction with life had mediating effects on the two variables. (3) The satisfaction with parks did not affect directly on the settlement consciousness, but it affected on the settlement consciousness through the satisfaction with life. That is, the satisfaction with life shows the complete mediating effects on the settlement consciousness. These results imply that the physical environments such as housing, cultural facilities, public transportation affect on the aged's settlement consciousness so that they should be age-friendly.

Daily Life Satisfaction Among Thai People: Socioeconomic Comparison

  • This descriptive study evaluated the satisfaction in daily life of Thai people according to participants' socioeconomic characteristics. The accidental sample included 676 Thai people aged 20 and older who lived in Bangkok and urban Saraburi. The satisfaction in daily life questionnaire (${\alpha}=0.86$) was used to collect data. The ranking for each aspect of daily life satisfaction arranged from high to low are: family life (mean=3.39), human relations, housing, food, job, health, and income (mean=2.99). Females were found to have a significantly higher satisfaction with daily life than males (mean=22.81 vs. 21.91). Those who lived in Saraburi province were found to have a higher satisfaction with daily life than those in Bangkok. Married participants, participants age 50-59, participants from two-generation households of parents and unmarried children, participants who stated that they took better care of their health now compared to one year ago, and participants who consulted a doctor in the past month were found to have higher satisfaction with daily life than their counterparts.

The relationship among self-esteem, life-satisfaction and stress coping style of dental hygiene students (일부 치위생과 학생들의 스트레스 대처방식이 자존감과 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to determine the effects of stress coping type on self-esteem and satisfaction with life in dental hygiene students. In particular, an attempt is made to determine the effects of sub-factors of stress coping type on self-esteem and satisfaction with life, get a better understanding of self-esteem and satisfaction with life for dental hygiene students, and provide basic data in developing a program that can identify, prevent, and control the problems with stress for dental hygiene students. Methods : This is descriptive correlation research to determine the relations between self-esteem and stress coping type in dental hygiene students. 212 dental hygiene students at colleges in Ulsan Metropolitan City were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire from June 10 to 20, 2013; then, 209 copies were used in analysis, with the exception of 3 copies which were excluded from recording. Results : Self-esteem and satisfaction with life were positively affected by active stress coping but were negatively affected by passive stress coping. As for such sub-factors of stress coping type as problem-focused coping, pursuit of social support, emotional relief coping, and hopeful thinking, the sub-factors of active coping type also positively affected self-esteem and satisfaction with life. Self-esteem interacted with the sub-factors of stress coping type and satisfaction with life. Conclusions : Since stress coping type was found to be a factor affecting self-esteem and satisfaction with life for students, the results of this study are expected to be used as basic data in developing a program that can help them cope actively with stress.

Family Life Satisfaction and Positive Self-concept For Urban housewives (도시 주부의 자아긍정감과 가정생활만족도)

  • This study was designed to determine the relative importance of specific family environmental variables and positive self-concept of psychological variables in explaining family life satisfaction. Data were collected from 423 housewives in Daegu City. Multivariate regression and factor analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of this study partially supported the hypothesis that positive self-concept of psychological factors would be more closely associated with family life satisfaction than would family environmental factors. The findings were as follows: 1. Urban housewives' positive self-concept and family life satisfaction were relatively high. 2. Among family environment variables, health, wives' education level, husband's satisfaction with job significantly influence on positive self-concept. 3. The variables which significantly affect family life satisfaction are husband's satisfaction with job, monthly family income, health. 4. From the path analysis, it found that positive self-concept has the most great influence on family life satisfation.

The Relationship Among Urinary Incontinence, Menopausal Symptom and Life Satisfaction in Middle Aged Women (일 지역 중년여성의 요실금.갱년기 증상과 생활만족도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate of the relationship of the urinary incontinence, menopausal symptom and life satisfaction in middle aged women. The subjects of this study were 235 middle aged women, living in M city, during the period from June 21 to August 31, 2000. The instruments for this study were the urinary incontinence modified and adding by Lee Young Sook(1994), the menopausal symptom developed by Song Ae Ri and Chung Eun Soon(1998) and the life satisfaction translated and modified by Suh Kyung Hee(1988). Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with SAS package. The result of this are as follows : 1. The total mean score of urinary incontinence was $1.56{\pm}0.58$ with a range of 0 to 4. The mean score on the menopausal symptom was $2.05{\pm}0.43$ with a range of 1 to 4. The mean life satisfaction score was $1.14{\pm}0.41$ with a range of 0 to 2. 2.General characteristics ralated to urinary incontinence were age and numbers of children (F=7.66, p=0.000, F=2.86, p=0.037). General characteristics ralated to menopausal symptom were age (F=7.37, p=0.000), occupation (t=5.33, p=0.021), problem of children (t=6.46, p=0.011) and marital satisfaction (F=5.65, p=0.004). General characteristics ralated to life satisfaction were type of housing (t=12.06, p=0.000), problem of children (t=6.96, p=0.008) and marital satisfaction (F=18.86, p=0.000). 3.The urinary incontinence and menopausal symptom were correlated positively (r=.235, p=.000). The urinary incontinence and life satisfaction were correlated negatively (r=-.114, p=.007). The menopausal symptom and life satisfaction were correlated negatively (r=-.277, p=.000). 4.The menopausal symptom, type of housing and marital satisfaction explained 16.6% of the variance for life satisfaction in the middle aged women.

Effects of Satisfaction with Green Space on Life Satisfaction and Mediating Effect of Subjective Health Status of the Urban Elderly (도시노인의 녹지환경 만족도가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향과 주관적 건강상태의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of satisfaction with green space on life satisfaction and to examine mediating effect of subjective health status in the relationship between satisfaction with green space and life satisfaction of older adults living in cities. For the purpose of the study, older adults aged over 65 years old who participated in 2018 Social Survey conducted by Statistics Korea were analyzed. A total of 4,567 older adults were analyzed using multiple regression analyses and significance of mediating effect was examined using bootstrapping method. Results of the analyses showed that satisfaction with green space had a significant effect on life satisfaction. Since a higher level of satisfaction with green space increased the level of life satisfaction, a direct effect of satisfaction with green space on life satisfaction was revealed. Also satisfaction with green space had a significant effect on subjective health status, so persons with a higher level of satisfaction with green space perceive their subjective health more positively. In regard to mediating effect, subjective health status partially mediated the relationship between satisfaction with green space and life satisfaction of the urban elderly. Results of this study show that green space can be used as an intervention method to improve health and life satisfaction of the urban elderly.
