Analysis of satisfaction with clinical training in dental hygiene students (치위생(학)과 학생의 임상실습 만족도 분석)

  • This study examined satisfaction with clinical training according to school system and school-related characteristics and analyzed the effect of satisfaction by clinical training task on the overall satisfaction with clinical training. Participants were convenience sampled from students of K University in Gangwon-do (n=279) and K University in Gyeonggi-do (n=154) who have undergone clinical training. The overall satisfaction with clinical training in dental hygiene students differed according to the school system, school-related characteristics, satisfaction by clinical training topic, and satisfaction by clinical training task. Satisfaction by clinical training task had an effect on overall satisfaction with clinical training. Thus, substantial effort, such as ensuring appropriate contents and methods of training.

Development of a Checklist and Assessment Items for an Objective Structured Clinical Examination of the Shoulder Joint Using Ultrasound

  • Background: The increasing importance of developing good clinical skills in medical education underscores the value of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). Additionally, ultrasound devices and studies have been frequently used by Korean medical doctors. However, education and use of ultrasound in the current curriculum in Korea are insufficient; therefore, we developed an OSCE for shoulder joint ultrasonography for clinical practice students at Korean medical universities. Methods: We reviewed previous studies and shoulder ultrasound guidelines to create a checklist for an OSCE. A satisfaction questionnaire survey was also developed by collecting and analyzing existing survey data on medical education satisfaction to address quality and problems of OSCE. Results: The checklist consisted of six items: ultrasound preparation, biceps tendon detection, subscapularis detection, supraspinatus detection, infraspinatus and teres minor detection, and finishing. The satisfaction survey consisted of four items: topic appropriateness and difficulty assessment, content assessment, self-assessment, and comment on the OSCE. Conclusion: We developed an ultrasound OSCE checklist for the rotator cuff. The OSCE should be revised based on the satisfaction survey data and expert opinions in the future. Our study data can be useful for practical training at Korean medical universities.

A Qualitative Study on Satisfaction with Healthcare Workforce Capacity Building Program: Focusing on Dr LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program for Clinical Experts (Cambodia Rehabilitation) (보건의료인력 양성 프로그램의 만족도에 대한 질적 연구: 이종욱펠로우십 프로그램 임상과정(캄보디아 재활)을 중심으로)

  • Background: We aimed to provide basic data for improving the effectiveness of the invitational training and reflecting it in the program in the following year by identifying the satisfaction level of trainees who participated in the "Dr. LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program" funded by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using a questionnaire interview. In the first stage of analysis, only the interview contents related to the research topic were classified by the researcher for the conversations recorded at the interview site, and in the second stage of analysis, the interview contents classified in the first stage were classified into each of those mentioned in this study. Results: The longer the trainees participated in the program and the better the accessibility, the higher the satisfaction with the program. In addition, the level of achievement of the trainees' goals and the level of improvement in their competence affected their satisfaction, and their difficulty in language communication during the training period was identified as a factor affecting the trainees' satisfaction level. In addition, competency improvement and satisfaction were positively correlated (r=0.75, p=0.03). Conclusion: When organizing a rehabilitation workforce capacity training program, it is important to identify trainees' needs, ensure accessibility, organize courses effectively, enhance English proficiency, and expand practical lectures to increase trainees' knowledge and understanding of rehabilitation.

Research trend analysis of Korean new graduate nurses using topic modeling (토픽모델링을 활용한 신규간호사 관련 국내 연구동향 분석)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to analyze the research trends of articles on just graduated Korean nurses during the past 10 years for exploring strategies for clinical adaptation. Methods: The topics of new graduate nurses were extracted from 110 articles that have been published in Korean journals between January 2010 and July 2020. Abstracts were retrieved from 4 databases (DBpia, RISS, KISS and Google scholar). Keywords were extracted from the abstracts and cleaned using semantic morphemes. Network analysis and topic modeling were performed using the NetMiner program. Results: The core keywords included 'education', 'training', 'program', 'skill', 'care', 'performance', and 'satisfaction'. In recent articles on new graduate nurses, three major topics were extracted by Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) techniques: 'turnover', 'adaptation', 'education'. Conclusion: Previous articles focused on exploring the factors related to the adaptation and turnover intentions of new graduate nurses. It is necessary to conduct further research focused on various interventions at the individual, task, and organizational levels to improve the retention of new graduate nurses.
