A Mutual Authentication Protocol based on Hash Function for Efficient Verification of User Entitlement in IPTV Service (IPTV 서비스에서 사용자의 수신자격을 효율적으로 판별할 수 있는 해쉬 함수 기반의 상호 인증 프로토콜)

  • The fusion stream of recent broadcasting and communication make multimedia content served in the area of broadcasting into IPTV service which transmits it through high-speed internet, cable TV net and satellite net in realtime. However, as the digital broadcasting service is extended to various media, the security of IPTV service content provided to users by service provider is not fully supported by CAS(Conditional Access System) provided by existing broadcasting system. This paper proposes interactive certification protocol which can efficiently distinguish the receiving-qualification of user between Set-Top Box and Smart Card which are parts of configurations for IPTV system. The proposed protocol uses hash function to make Set-Top Box transmit receiving-qualification about the channel fee which user pays more properly than existing protocol. Also, the proposed protocol uses session key generated between receiver and smart card through inter certification process and encrypts EMM not the service to be used by anyone illegally.

MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 Transcoders in The Spatial Domain and The DCT Domain (공간 영역과 DCT 영역에서 MPEG-2로부터 MPEG-4 로 변환하는 압축기의 구현)

  • Various multimedia systems have been developed and their application areas widely proliferate. Thus, the interoperability is getting important among various networks and devices. The video transcoding is a technology to solve this interoperability problem among various coding standards. Transcoding can be defined as the conversion of one compressed coded data to another. In this paper, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoder in the spatial domain is compared with that in the DCT domain. The transcoder is very useful when a video sequence that is originally encoded for digital TV, DVD or satellite broadcasting is served in mobile environment. In order to compare two transcoders, all modules except motion compensation and down sampling are implemented identically. In addition, both transcoders do not search for motion vector. Instead, the decoded information is reused to the encoder. The experimental results show that the transcoder in the spatial domain is usually better than that in the DCT domain with respect to PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio), bitrate and execution time.

  • In this paper, we focus on supporting the convergence of broadcasting and communication in home network systems with E-PON based home gateway. We propose a new architecture to provide broadcasting and data services in integrated home network using overlay transport mechanism in access network and If multicast techniques of IGMP and IGMP snooping in home network. We also detail a set of mechanisms and procedures for home broadcasting service through the home gateway system. Our new scheme is composed of three parts: a) an overlay transmission model of video broadcasting signals (satellite and/or cable TV) and Internet data, b) to select a specific video broadcasting channel and to make of the selected video broadcasting stream into IP multicast packets in tuner/conversion module using multiple tuner system and c) to transfer the converted If multicast packets to L2 switch of home gateway's core module and to send them out to target port(s) by L2 multicast using IGMP snooping.

  • Our human society is rapidly changing into the world of advanced visual information with the development of image industry, the advent of satellite and terrestrial DMB, and the opening of Ubiquitous era. Like this, we are living in the space of overflowing media contents. Jean Baudrillad anticipated that the influential power of image would dominate our reality in 'Simulation'. Noticing the indication of our time, which is organized by various information media including the mass media, Baudrillad predicted that the 21st century would be an era of symbol and image due to the development of television, computer, and internet. This paper attempts to find the physical and conceptual peculiarities of the space change according to the use of display, by analyzing SF films, where future daily life is a major setting, under the judgement that the exploration of space change is significant. Through findings, it tries to lead the visual expansion, which recognizes display as space itself rather than object of space and changes unmoving space into moving space, and suggest the future space design by using digital space. It suggests case studies, which use digital display in the real space, as a study method and it examines the features, influences, and roles of digital display through investigating literatures and cases. In addition, it attempts to find a correlation of digital display and space by selecting films, which can give the affluent resources of analysis on the digital display among SF films. Therefore, it will come to a conclusion that space change should be dealt with in the space design.

Spectral Signatures of Tombs and their Classification (묘지의 분광적 특성과 통계적 분류)

  • More than 0.5 percent of land in Korea is used for cemetery and the rate is growing in spite of the increase in cremation these days. The systematic management of tombs may be possible through the ‘Feature Extraction’ method which is applied to the high-resolution satellite imagery. For this reason, this research focused on finding out the radiometric characteristics of tombs and the classification of them. An IKONOS image of northwest areas of Seoul with 8km x 10km dimension was analyzed. After sampling 24 tombs in the study area, the statistical radiometric characteristics of tombs are analyzed. And tombs were classified based on the criteria such as landscape, NDVI, and cluster analysis. In addition, it was investigated if the aspect or slope of the terrain influenced to the classification of tombs. As a result of this research, authors find that there is similarity between the classification tv NDVI and the classification through cluster analysis. And aspect or slope didn't have much influence on the classification of tombs.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the development of interactive services and technologies in the media industry. Through the analysis of domestic two-way broadcasting contents service, this study analyzed platform and services type according to service type of terrestrial broadcasting, SO operator and Telco. Also, by identifying the characteristics of interactive programs(open, interactive, personalized, stereoscopic), this study propose important convergence possibilities of the future providers and development plans through supporting technologies and services for each characteristic. In the case of terrestrial broadcasters, ARS, web sites and mobile apps were mostly provided in both directions, and SO and satellite broadcasting operators were found to provide diversity in interactive service operation using data domain. In the case of IPTV companies, most of them provide interactive services with additional video or information service through adjustment button or app, and cable TV operators had more adjustment data broadcasting than exclusive use data broadcasts. Therefore, domestic interactive broadcasting service type needs convergence type of revenue model needs and needs to be converted into new competitive interactive broadcasting program service environment.

Design and Implementation of Data Broadcasting Authoring Tool for Multi-platforms (데이터방송 표준간 호환 가능한 저작도구 설계 및 구현)

  • There are several data broadcasting standards that the developers should apply when develops any interactive digital TV contents. In Korea, we adopts ACAP(Advanced Common Application Platform) as terrestrial data broadcasting standard, MHP(Multimedia Home Platform) fur satellite data broadcasting and OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform) for cable data broadcasting. Therefore, content providers must develop different applications which suited for different standards - even if the application is exactly same. This is waste of time and energy. This paper suggests a solution to solve this problem among different broadcasting platforms - MHP, OCAP and ACAP. We compared these specifications, and found out what APIs are typically used far applications. Then we designed XML file structures that can be used to define contents of applications. We also implemented an authoring tool which automatically generates XML files by interaction with users. This paper also ascertains Xlet applications, produced by the authoring tool, works properly on each different data broadcasting standard - MHP, OCAP and ACAP.

A Comparative Analysis of CRM Strategies and Establishment Examples of the National Media Corporations in Korea (국내 미디어기업의 CRM 구축 및 적용 전략 비교 연구 - 신문사, 유료방송사, 통신 기업을 중심으로)

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in the media field is a specialcustomer-centered management method based on the information technology in order to build a long-term relationship with customers, users or subscripted people of media services. The purpose of this study is to examine and compare the various strategies and the characteristics of customer relationship managements of domestic media corporations in the era of the digital convergence. The data is analyzed by in-depth interviews with the CRM managements of newspapers, cable & satellite broadcasters and telecommunication corporations. The result of the study shows that the practicing CRM in the media field has an influence on the management performance and the management's support influences the practice of CRM. CRM is practiced differently according to the scale of the media corporations and revenue. Also the study presents that media corporations which wanted to improve CRM are going through trials and errors caused by the lack of experience of the CRM market in Korea. Therefore this study would provide CRM strategy for CRM marketers in Korea. Furthermore, this study presents concepts to media corporations which do not apply to CRM yet, and theoretical backgrounds which do. Finally, the implication of the study, limitations and problems are explained and discussed.

A LDPC Decoder for DVB-S2 Standard Supporting Multiple Code Rates (DVB-S2 기반에서 다양한 부호화 율을 지원하는 LCPC 복호기)

  • For forward error correction, DVB-S2, which is the digital video broadcasting forward error coding and modulation standard for satellite television, uses a system based the concatenation of BCH with LDPC inner coding. In DVB-S2 the LDPC codes are defined for 11 different code rates, which means that a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder should support multiple code rates. Seven of the 11 code rates, 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 5/6, 8/9, and 9/10, are regular and the rest four code rates, 1/4, 1/3, 2/5, and 1/2, are irregular. In this paper we propose a flexible decoder for the regular LDPC codes. We combined the partially parallel decoding architecture that has the advantages in the chip size, the memory efficiency, and the processing rate with Benes network to implement a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder that can support multiple code rates with a block size of 64,800 and can configure the interconnection between the variable nodes and the check nodes according to the parity-check matrix. The proposed decoder runs correctly at the frequency of 200MHz enabling 193.2Mbps decoding throughput. The area of the proposed decoder is $16.261m^2$ and the power dissipation is 198mW at a power supply voltage of 1.5V.

Design and Implementation of the Channel Adaptive Broadband MODEM (채널 적응형 광대역 모뎀 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, the demand of broadband communications such as high-speed internet, HDTV, 3D-HDTV and ATM backbone network has been increased drastically. For transmitting the broad-bandwidth data using wireless network, it is needed to use ka-band frequency. However, the use of this ka-band frequency is seriously affected to the received data performance by rain fading and atmospheric propagation loss at the Ka-band satellite communication link. So, we need adaptive MODEM to endure the degraded performance by channel environment. In this paper, we will present the structure and design of the 155Mbps adaptive Modem adaptively compensated against channel environment. In order to compensate the rain attenuation over the ka-band wireless channel link, the adaptive coding schemes with variable coding rates and the multiple modulation schemes such as trellis coded 8-PSK, QPSK, and BPSK are adopted. And the blind demodulation scheme is proposed to demodulate without Information of modulation mode at the multi-mode demodulator, and the fast phase ambiguity resolving scheme is proposed. The design and simulation results of adaptive Modem by SPW model are provided. This 155Mbps adaptive MODEM was designed and implemented by single ASIC chip with the $0.25\mu{m}$ CMOS standard cell technology and 950 thousand gates.
