  • MRE-1 Dual Thruster Module(DTM), which will be used in KOMPSAT(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite), can provide reliable and cost-effective means for attitude and maneuvering control system. Thruster heat shield, one of the main components of DTM, is designed to prevent the critical radiative heat exchange between thruster and satellite during firing. To overcome the manufacturing difficulties, a electroforming process is preferred to classical welding process. In this case, an inner diameter of a new shield will be decreased a little due to the change of manufacturing process. Therefore, the interference problem between thruster nozzle and heat shield is investigated through structural analysis and their results are described in this paper.

  • A power supply of cathode has been developed for hall-effect thruster for small satellite. A microwave cathode has been applied to the electric propulsion system and cathode power is necessary in oder to work securely. Anode current is varied by a flow rate controlled by anode tank pressure. Then cathode current has to be controled in proportion by anode current. So cathode power supply has been designed to offer a current proportional to anode current. Also cathode power has been tuned to work securely for cathode to emit more electron than anode within 0.03A. The function test of cathode power was performed by constructing an equivalent load for anode and cathode. It has been tested in a vacuum chamber in order to ensure a stable operation of the thruster. And it was confirmed that thruster normally has been operated in the space environment after the launch.

  • The satellites in orbit use a sun reference vector from solar model based the ephemeris. To get the ephemeris, we use DE-Series, an ephemeris developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), or the reference vector generation formula proposed by Vallado. The DE-Series provides the numerical coefficients of Chebyshev polynomials, which have the advantage of high precision, but there is a computational burden on the satellite. The Vallado's method has low accuracy, although the sun vector can be easily obtained through the sun vector generation equation. In this paper, we have developed a program to provide the Chebyshev polynomial coefficients to obtain the sun position coordinates in the inertial coordinate system. The proposed method can improve the accuracy compared to the conventional method and can be used for high - performance, high - precision nano satellite missions.

  • This study deals with the precise GPS data processing refer to ITRF2000 through the calculation of absolute coordinates of cadastral satellite station which were established by purpose of cadastral surveying. We used the Gipsy-Oasis II software developed Jet Propulsion Laboratory to estimate daily position of GPS stations with orbital and atmospheric parameters. Especially, we carried out ionospheric delay, tropospheric delay, data existence whether or not and quality control check of observation data during pre-processing. The standard deviation of absolute coordinates was determined better than ${\pm}4mm$ from GPS precise analysis. The RMSE of difference between the result of this study and existing result by using Bernese s/w shows ${\Delta}X={\pm}0.079m$, ${\Delta}Y={\pm}0.019m$ and ${\Delta}Z={\pm}0.031m$.

  • As interest in microsatellites increases, research has been actively conducted recently on the performance and use, as well as the orbital design and deployment techniques, for the microsatellite constellations. The purpose of this study was to investigate orbital deployment techniques using thrust and differential atmospheric drag control (DADC) for the Walker-delta constellation. When using thrust, the time and thrust required for orbital deployment vary, depending on the separation speed and direction of the satellite with respect to the launch vehicle. A control strategy to complete the orbital deployment with limited performance of the propulsion system is suggested and it was analyzed. As a result, the relationship between the deployment period and the total thrust consumption was derived. It takes a relatively longer deployment time using differential air drag rather than consuming thrusts. It was verified that the satellites can be deployed only with differential air drag at a general orbit of a microsatellite constellation. The conclusion of this study suggests that the deployment strategy in this paper can be used for the microsatellite constellation.

  • To protect a satellite and electronic equipment from the acoustic load generated by rocket propulsion system, many launch vehicle use acoustic blanket. Acoustic load is main source of random vibration working on the payload. Most high frequency region of the acoustic loads is reduced by payload fairing skins and acoustic blanket, but low frequency region is not. In order to reduce acoustic load of low frequency region, we designed array resonator panel which was made of composite materials. Insertion loss capacity of the payload fairing with acoustic blanket was verified from PLF acoustic test in the acoustic chamber.

  • A similar magnitude of non-gravitational perturbations are act on the formation flying low earth orbit satellites with a certain time difference. Using this temporal correlation, the non-gravity acceleration of the low earth orbiting satellites can be transferred for the othersatellites. There is a period in which the accelerometer data of one satellite is unavailable for GRACE and GRACE-FO satellites. In this case, the accelerometer data transplant method described above is officially used to recover the accelerometer data at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). In this paper, we proposed a model for predicting accelerometer data of formation flying low earth orbit satellites using a neural network (NN) model to improve the estimation accuracy of the transplant method. Although the transplant method cannot reflect the satellite's position and space environmental factors, the NN model can use them as model inputs to increase the prediction accuracy. A prediction test of an accelerometer data using NN model was performed for one month, and the prediction accuracy was compared with the transplant method. The NN model outperformsthe transplant method with 55.0% and 40.1% error reduction in the along-track and radial directions, respectively.

  • According to the studies recently published through advanced maui optical and space surveillance technologies (AMOS) Conference 2021, LEO conjunction assessment revolves around not on operating satellites but space debris such as rocket bodies and non-operational satellites, hence suggesting a solution through space traffic management. Against this backdrop, the issue of active debris removal (ADR) has emerged to the surface as an international challenge throughout the globe. In step with this, the United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution calling on nations to halt tests of direct-ascent anti-satellites, to which U.S. and twelve other nations included Republic of Korea were original signatories. ADR techniques are also actively being researched in the civil sector, and these commercial services, if successfully developed, could possibly be utilized for military use as well. As such, this paper will help readers' understanding for the current status of ADR techniques, space threat assessments, on-orbit rendezvous and proximity operations by looking at previous cases, reflecting on space-faring nations' ADR techniques and its development probability in relation to space weapons. As a conclusion, this study will propose the needs of developing space propulsion system by understanding Space Maneuver Warfare in preparation for the future space battlefield.

  • A heated and expanded helium is used to pressurize liquid propellants in propellant tanks of propulsion system of liquid propellant launch vehicles. To produce a heated and expanded helium, an hot-gas heat exchanger is used by utilizing heat source from an exhausted gas, which was generated in a gas generator to operate turbine of turbo-pump and dumped out through an exhaust duct of engine. Both experimental and numerical approaches of hot-gas heat exchanger design were conducted in the present study. Experimentally, siliconites - electrical resistance types - were used to simulate the full heat condition instead of an exhausted gas. Cryogenic heat exchangers, which were immersed in a liquid nitrogen pool, were used to feed cryogenic gaseous helium in a hot-gas heat exchanger. Numerical simulation was made using commercially utilized solver - Fluent V.6.0 - to validate experimental results. Helically coiled stainless steel pipe and stainless steel exhausted duct were consisted of tetrahedron unstructured mesh. Helium was a working fluid Inside helical heat coil and regarded as an ideal gas. Realizable k-』 turbulent modeling was adopted to take turbulent mixing effects in consideration. Comparisons between experimental results and numerical solutions are Presented. It is observed that a resulted hot-gas heat exchanger design is reliable based on the comparison of both results.

  • Reactive sprays of two propellant combinations(GOx/kerosene and $GN_2O$/ethanol) were observed and compared with each other as a basic research of visualizing supercritical combustion. A shadowgraph imaging method was used to visualize the reactive sprays, and shadowgraph images were converted to density gradient magnitude images to analyse the structure of reactive sprays. The gas-liquid interface of GOx/kerosene spray showed rougher boundary and steeper density gradient near the injector face than the $N_2O$/ethanol at similar combustion chamber pressure. Spray core length was calculated from averaged density gradient magnitude images and it was revealed that spray core length of GOx/kerosene was shorter than that of $GN_2O$/ethanol, although momentum flux ratio of GOx/kerosene propellant combination was lower.
