Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) provide ionospheric corrections at geographically five degree-spaced Ionospheric Grid Points (IGPs) and confidence bounds, called Grid Ionospheric Vertical Errors (GIVEs), on the error of those corrections. Since the ionosphere is one of the largest error sources which may threaten the safety of a single frequency Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) user, the ionospheric correction and integrity bound algorithm is essential for the development of SBAS. The current single frequency based SBAS, already deployed or being developed, implement the ionospheric correction and error bounding algorithm of the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) developed for use in the United States. However, the ionospheric condition is different for each region and it could greatly degrade the performance of SBAS if its regional characteristics are not properly treated. Therefore, this paper discusses key factors that should be taken into consideration in the development of the ionospheric correction and integrity bound algorithm optimized for the Korean SBAS. The main elements of the conventional GIVE monitor algorithm are firstly reviewed. Then, this paper suggests several areas which should be investigated to improve the availability of the Korean SBAS by decreasing the GIVE value.
For a localization system, the TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) measurement and AOA (Angle of Arrival) measurement are often used for estimating target's positions. Although it is known that the accuracy of TDOA based localization is superior to that of AOA based one, it may have a poor vertical accuracy in bad geometrical conditions. This paper, therefore, proposes a localization algorithm in which the vertical position is estimated by AOA measurements and the horizontal one is estimated by TDOA measurement in order to achieve high 3D-location accuracy. And this algorithm is applied to a GPS jammer localization systems because it has a large value of the DOP (Dilution of Precision) when the jammer is located far away from the system. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid TDOA/AOA location algorithm gives much higher location accuracy than TDOA or AOA only location.

A wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna with a single feed is proposed for use in global navigation satellite systems. Its primary radiation elements are composed of two orthogonal bowtie dipoles, which are equipped with double-printed vacant-quarter rings to allow direct matching of the antenna to a single $50-{\Omega}$ coaxial line and to produce CP radiation. The crossed bowtie dipole is appropriately incorporated with a planar metallic reflector to produce the desired unidirectional radiation pattern as well as to achieve a wideband characteristic in terms of impedance matching and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths. The designed antenna was fabricated and measured. The prototype antenna with an overall 1.2-GHz frequency size of $0.48{\lambda}_o{\times}0.48{\lambda}_o{\times}0.25{\lambda}_o$ produced a measured ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}$<-10 dB bandwidth of 1.05-1.79 GHz and a measured 3-dB AR bandwidth of 1.12-1.64 GHz. It also showed right-hand CP radiation with a small gain variation (${\pm}0.3dB$) and high radiation efficiency (>93%) over the operational bandwidth.
We propose a small active antenna to receive Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, i.e., Global Positioning System (GPS) L1 (1,575MHz) and Russian Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) L1 (1,600 MHz) signals. A two-stage low-noise amplifier (LNA) with more than 27 dB gain is implemented in the bottom layer of a three-layer antenna package. In addition, a hybrid coupler is used to combine signals from pair of proximately coupled orthogonal feeds with $90^{\circ}$ phase difference to achieve the circular polarization (CP) characteristic. Three layers of high permittivity (${\varepsilon}_r=10$) substrates are stacked and effectively integrated to have a small dimension of $64mm{\times}64mm{\times}7.42mm$ (including both circuit and antenna). The reflection coefficient of the fabricated antenna at the target frequency is below -10 dB, the measured antenna gain is above 26 dBic and the measured noise figure is less than 1.4 dB.
The reference stations in a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) collect raw data from global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to generate correction and integrity information. The multipath signals degrade GNSS raw data quality and have adverse effects on the SBAS performance. The currently operating SBASs (WAAS and EGNOS, etc.) survey existing commercial equipment to perform multipath assessment around the antennas. For the multi-path assessment, signal power of GNSS and multipath at the MEDLL receiver of NovAtel were estimated and the results were replicated by a ratio of signal power estimated at NovAtel Multipath Assessment Tool (MAT). However, the same experiment environment used in existing systems cannot be configured in reference stations in Korean augmentation satellite system (KASS) due to the discontinued model of MAT and MEDLL receivers used in the existing systems. This paper proposes a test environment for multipath assessment around the antennas in KASS Multipath Assessment Tool (K-MAT) for multipath assessment. K-MAT estimates a multipath error contained in the code pseudorange using linear combination between the measurements and replicates the results through polar plot and histogram for multipath assessment using the estimated values.

The Centimeter Level Augmentation Service (CLAS) is the Precise Point Positioning (PPP) - Real Time Kinematic (RTK) correction service utilizing the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) L6 (1278.65 MHz) signal to broadcast the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) error corrections. Compact State-Space Representation (CSSR) corrections for mitigating GNSS measurement error sources such as satellite orbit, clock, code and phase biases, tropospheric error, ionospheric error are estimated from the ground segment of QZSS CLAS using the code and carrier-phase measurements collected in the Japan's GNSS Earth Observation Network (GEONET). Since the CLAS service begun on November 1, 2018, users with dedicated receivers can perform cm-level precise positioning using CSSR corrections. In this paper, CLAS-based VRS-RTK performance evaluation was performed using Global Positioning System (GPS) observables collected from the refence station, TSK2, located in Japan. As a result of performing GPS-only RTK positioning using the open-source software CLASLIB and RTKLIB, it took about 15 minutes to resolve the carrier-phase ambiguities, and the RTK fix rate was only about 41%. Also, the Root Mean Squares (RMS) values of position errors (fixed only) are about 4cm horizontally and 7 cm vertically.

Fields of high-precision positioning applications are growing fast across the mass market worldwide. Accordingly, the industry is focusing on developing methods of applying State-Space Representation (SSR) corrections on low-cost GNSS receivers. Among SSR correction types, this paper analyzes Safe Position Augmentation for Real Time Navigation (SPARTN) messages being offered by the SAfe and Precise CORrection DAta (SAPCORDA) company and validates positioning algorithms based on them. The first part of this paper introduces the SPARTN format in detail. Then, procedures on how to apply Basic-Precision Atmosphere Correction (BPAC) and High-Precision Atmosphere Correction (HPAC) messages are described. BPAC and HPAC messages are used for correcting satellite clock errors, satellite orbit errors, satellite signal biases and also ionospheric and tropospheric delays. Accuracies of positioning algorithms utilizing SPARTN messages were validated with two types of positioning strategies: Code-PPP using GPS pseudorange measurements and PPP-RTK including carrier phase measurements. In these performance checkups, only single-frequency measurements have been used and integer ambiguities were estimated as float numbers instead of fixed integers. The result shows that, with BPAC and HPAC corrections, the horizontal accuracy is 46% and 63% higher, respectively, compared to that obtained without application of SPARTN corrections. Also, the average horizontal and vertical RMSE values with HPAC are 17 cm and 27 cm, respectively.
The carrier-based differential global navigation satellite system (CD-GNSS) has been garnering significant attention as a promising technology for unmanned vehicles for its high accuracy. The CD-GNSS systems to be used for safety-critical applications should provide a certain level of integrity. The integrity of these systems must be analyzed under various conditions, including fault-free and satellite fault conditions. The systems should be able to detect the faults that can cause large biases on the user position errors and quantify the integrity risk by computing the protection level (PL) to protect the user against the faults that are left undetected. Prior work has derived and investigated the PL for the fault-free condition. In this study, the integrity of the CD-GNSS system under the fault condition is analyzed. The position errors caused by the satellite's fault are compared with the fault-free PL (PL_H0) to verify whether the integrity requirement can be met without computing the PLs for the fault conditions. The simulations are conducted by assuming the ephemeris fault, and the position errors are evaluated by changing the size of the ephemeris faults that missed detection. It was confirmed that the existing fault monitors do not guarantee that the position error under the fault condition does not exceed the PL_H0. Further, the impact of the faults on the position errors is discussed.
Since the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal received from the low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite is only affected by the upper ionosphere, the magnitude of the ionospheric delay of Global Positioning System (GPS) signal received from ground user is different. Therefore, the ground-based two-dimensional ionospheric model cannot be applied to LEO satellites. The NeQuick model used in Galileo provides the ionospheric delay according to the user's altitude, so it can be used in the ionospheric model of the LEO satellites. However, the NeQuick model is not suitable for space receivers because of the high computational cost. A simplified NeQuick model with reduced computing time was recently presented. In this study, the computing time of the NeQuick model and the simplified NeQuick model was analyzed based on the GPS Klobuchar model. The NeQuick and simplified NeQuick model were applied to the GNSS data from GRACE-B, Swarm-C, and GOCE satellites to analyze the performance of the ionospheric correction and positioning. The difference in computing time between the NeQuick and simplified NeQuick model was up to 90%, but the difference in ionospheric accuracy was not as large as within 4.5%.
