The existing effective path-length model of ITU-R has some drawbacks: The prediction error is quite large compared to domestic measurement data and it is an empirical model in which the physical characteristics of rain cells are not considered. In this paper, a theoretical model for effective path-length using the rain-cell concept was proposed and its validity was verified using the measurement data. To analyze the statistical characteristics of rain cell parameters, the weather-radar data(CAPPI) measured by Korea Meterological Administration were analyzed and the correction factor was properly introduced to fit the Chollian beacon measurement data of ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). To verify the proposed effective path-length model, it was compared with the Mugunghwa No. 5 beacon data measured in Chungnam National University with the support of ADD(Agency for Defense Development). It was confirmed that the prediction results of the proposed model are in good agreement with the measurement data.

By increased moving speed of aircraft, estimating location of itself becomes more important than ever. This requirement is satisfied by appearance of GPS, however it is useless when signal reception from satellite is not good enough by interruption, for example, traffic jamming. Applying link for communication to additional positioning system is capable of providing relative position of aircraft. Estimating location with link for communication is done without additional equipment but with signal processing based on correlation of received signal. ESPRIT is one of the representative algorithm among them. Estimating correlation matrix is possible to have error since it includes average operation needs enough number of samples not impractical. Therefore we propose algorithm that defines, estimates and removes error matrix of correlation. Proposing algorithm shows better performance than previous one when transmitters are close.

In This paper the embedded linux based embedded control system was used and the tracking antenna system was studied for data link and communication between moving vehicles. A microprocessor based embedded controller is equipped with SA-1110 board and this embedded controller can control the azimuth and the elevation angle of the antenna. The relative position and attitude for pointing are calculated by using the GPS position signals from the moving vehicle. To verify the performance of the designed embedded antenna system, the orbit information of the Arirang satellite(from KARI) is used.

In this paper, we propose PEP based on cross-layer and network coding in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. In particular, we propose not only a scheme of cross-layer information exchange for interaction between TCP and the resource allocation (RA) scheme in the link layer but also a tuning algorithm for the TCP contention window (CWND) by using information on the RA in the link layer and the redundancy rate for network-coded packets. The simulation results show that TCP CWND can be adjusted by RA information in the proposed protocol. Furthermore, through the transmission of network-coded packets and the proposed CWND tuning algorithm, TCP throughput is enhanced in lossy environment due to user mobility without the unnecessary resource overhead.

This paper examined the feasibility of adding a new NGSO/MSS(Non-Geostationary orbit/Mobile satellite service) service link to a frequency band which is already allocated to fixed-service microwave(M/W) system. To achieve this goal, the NGSO/MSS handset performance under the influence of the M/W multiple stations and the influence of handsets on the M/W station were both analyzed. Sharing criterions were also obtained by means of coordination contour in the former case, and handset capacity in the latter case. As the results, it was proven that sharing was feasible only when the vertical distance between handset and trendline was above 4 km except front and back points of M/W antenna bore sight under influence of 9 hops(the distance between hops = 50 km) M/W system on the NGSO/MSS handset, and only when the capacity of handset was below $7.0\times10^{-14}$ handsets/ $m^{2}$ under influence of handsets on the M/W station.

In this paper, we propose a possibility of usage of carrier superpositioning scheme for a specific slow frequency hopping(SFH) transmission method for the satellite data link in which all of hopping carriers have to be synchronized to DSM transponder of our previous work and usage of frequency diversity in the saved frequency to overcome the SFH disadvantage against jammer. We have analyzed anti-jamming performance and LPI performance and confirmed that the proposed scheme can support data service with 18.5dB processing gain against the worst case partial band jamming and give 2.5dB gain in the LPI performance against D&M detector which can estimate the data rate of unknown signals.
For the understanding the locus of the Quinling-Dabie-Sulu continental collision's boundary and the underground structure of the sedimentray basin in the Yellow Sea, three dimensional density modelling is carrid out by using gravity dataset (Free Air Anomaly), which is measured by Tamhae 2, KIGAM in a period 2000 - 2002. The measured gravity anomaly in the investigations area is mainly responsed by depth distribution of the sedimentary basin. After comparing the sea-measured gravity data to CHAMP-GRACE satellite gravity data, I suggested that the high density model bodies extend mainly from the southern part of China to the middle-western part of the Korean Peninsula., which might be emplaced along the continental collision's boundary. The total volume of very low density bodies modified by modelling might be about $20000\;km^3$.

To cope with sever accident like Fukushima accident, the emergency response system is needed. It consist of the hardened I&C system and the mobile control station. The hardened I&C system monitors the state in the nuclear power plant and controls the emergency equipment such as valves, pumps and the mobile control station placed at 30km away from nuclear power plant receives the status information from the hardened I&C system and transmits the control data to the hardened I&C system. In this paper, we design the emergency communication system connecting the hardened I&C system to the mobile control station and analyze the performance of the system. This system consists of the terrestrial communication system and the satellite communication. The performance such as a communication link budget, throughput and delay time is analyzed for each system.

Data errors according to the various noises caused in the satellite communication links are corrected by the Viterbi decoding algorithm which has extreme error correcting capability. In this paper, we designed and implemented a convolutional encoder and Viterbi decoder ASIC which is used to encode the input data at the transmit side and correct the errors of the received data at the receive side for use in the VSAT communication system. And this chip may be used in any BPSK, QPSK, or OQPSK transmission system. The ambiguity resolver corrects PSK modem ambiguities by delaying, interting, and/or exchanging code symbol to restore their original sequence and polarity. In case of previous decoding system, ambiguity state(AS) of data is resolved by external control logic and extra redundancy data are needed to resolve AS. But, by adopting decoder proposed in this paper, As of data is resolved automatically by internal logic of decoder in case of continuous mode, and by external As line withoug extra redudancy data in burst mode case. So, decoding parts are simple in continuous mode and transmission efficiency is increased in bust mode. The features of this chip are full duplex operation with independent transmit and receive control and clocks, start/stop inputs for use in burst mode systems, loopback function to verify encoder and decoder, and internal or external control to resolve ambinguity state. For verification of the function and performance of a fabricated ASIC chip, we equiped this chip in the Central and Remote Earth Station of VSAT system, and did the performance test using the commerical INTELSAT VII under the real satellite link environmens. The results of test were demonstrated the superiority of performance.

Wireless optical communication is able to obtain high antenna gain as well as utilize to transmit the high-speed information with large capacity than the RF communication. However, the propagation path (atmosphere) is considered as an attenuator occured turbulence, absorption and scattering. These undesired phenomena diminish the amount of light that is collected at the receiver. To evaluate the effect of the atmospheric turbulance and scattering, this paper perform the ground-to-ground wireless optical LAN experiment by using the (2,1,6) convolutional coder and Viterbi decoder, and analyze numerically the earth-station antenna diameter due to the propagation path condition and upstream/downstream link.
