  • The escalating demands for high-resolution satellite imagery necessitate the dissemination of geospatial data with superior accuracy.Achieving precise positioning is imperative for mitigating geometric distortions inherent in high-resolution satellite imagery. However, maintaining sub-pixel level accuracy poses significant challenges within the current technological landscape. This research introduces an approach wherein upsampling is employed on both the satellite image and ground control points (GCPs) chip, facilitating the establishment of a high-resolution satellite image precision sensor orientation. The ensuing analysis entails a comprehensive comparison of matching performance. To evaluate the proposed methodology, the Compact Advanced Satellite 500-1 (CAS500-1), boasting a resolution of 0.5 m, serves as the high-resolution satellite image. Correspondingly, GCP chips with resolutions of 0.25 m and 0.5 m are utilized for the South Korean and North Korean regions, respectively. Results from the experiment reveal that concurrent upsampling of satellite imagery and GCP chips enhances matching performance by up to 50% in comparison to the original resolution. Furthermore, the position error only improved with 2x upsampling. However, with 3x upsampling, the position error tended to increase. This study affirms that meticulous upsampling of high-resolution satellite imagery and GCP chips can yield sub-pixel-level positioning accuracy, thereby advancing the state-of-the-art in the field.

  • Satellite image processing software should be able to support interoperability that is to enable consumers, citizens, large and small businesses and governments to make the fullest possible use of the world's spatial data and spatial processing resources. The goal of interoperability is to perform hands-on research, development, testing, fielding, and validation of potential and existing interoperable geoprocessing technologies. In this paper, component based architecture for fast interoperability is designed to maximize interoperability among the OpenGIS components specified in the OpenGIS abstract specifications and implementation specifications and to mix up the OpenGIS components and the fast access mechanism for high performance.

  • This research presents particulate distribution map of tidal flats of Hampyung bay using reflectance which extracted from satellite data and field survey data during same periods. The spectrum of particulate composition obtained from Landsat TM data was analysed and 7 scenes of satellite image were classified with ISODATA and K-MEANS methods. The results of unsupervised classification were estimated with in-situ data. The classification accuracy of ISODATA and K-MAMS methods were 84.3% and 85.7%. For validation of classified results of multi-temporal satellite images, TM image of May 1999(reference data), which was classified with field survey data was compared with classified results of multi-temporary satellite data.

  • Landcover information of access-denied area was extracted from low-medium and high resolution satellite image. Training for supervised classification was performed to refer visually by landcover map which is made and distributed from The Ministry of Environment. The classification result was compared by relating data of FACC land classification system. As we rasterize digital military map with same pixel size of satellite classification, the accuracy test was performed by image to image method. In vegetation case, ancillary data such as NDVI and image for seasons are going to improve accuracy. FACC code of FDB need to recognize the properties which can be automated.

  • Recently, Gonzalez-Audicana et al. proposed the substitute wavelet intensity (SWI) method which provided a solution based on the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) method for the fusing of panchromatic (PAN) and multispectral (MS) images. Although the spectral quality of the fused MS images is enhanced, this method is not efficient enough to quickly merge massive volumes of data from satellite. To overcome this problem, we introduce a new SWI method based on a fast IHS transform to implement efficiently as an alternative procedure. In addition, we show that the method is well applicable for fusing IKONOS PAN with MS images.

  • EOC (Electro-Optical Camera) of KOMPSAT-1 (Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite) has been producing land imageries of the world since January 2000. After image data are acquired by EOC, they are transmitted from satellite to ground via X-band RF signal. Then, EOC image data are generated and pass through radiometric and geometric corrections to generate standard products of EOC images. After radiometric correction on EOC image data, Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) compensation is applicable on EOC images with user's request for better image quality. MTF compensation is concerned with filtering EOC images to minimize the effect of degradations. For Image Receiving and Processing System (IRPE) at KOMPSAT Ground Station (KGS), Wiener filter is used in MTF compensation for EOC images. If the Pointing Spread Function (PSF) of EOC system is known, signal-to-noise power spectra ratio is the only factor in the determination of Wiener filter. In this paper, MTF compensation in IRPE at KGS is introduced and MTF compensated EOC 1R images are generated using Wiener filters with various signal-to-noise power spectra ratios. MTF compensated EOC 1R images are correlated with EOC 1R images for observing linearities between them. As a result, the effect of signal-to-noise power spectra ratio is shown on MTF compensated EOC 1R images.

After image data are acquired by EOC, they are transmitted from satellite to ground via X-band RF signal. Then, EOC image data are retrieved and pass through radiometric and geometric corrections to generate standard products of EOC images. After radiometric correction on EOC image data, Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) compensation is applicable on EOC images with user's request for better image quality. MTF compensation is concerned with filtering EOC images to minimize the effect of degradations. For Image Receiving and Processing System (IRPE) at KOMPSAT Ground Station (KGS), Wiener filter is used for MTF compensation of EOC images. If the Pointing Spread Function (PSF) of EOC system is known, signal-to-noise (SNR) power spectra ratio is the only variable which determines the shape of Wiener filter In this paper, MTF compensation in IRPE at KGS is briefly addressed, and MTF compensated EOC images are generated using Wiener filters with various SNR power spectra ratios. MTF compensated EOC images are compared with original EOC 1R images to observe correlations between them. As a result, the effect of SNR power spectra ratio on MTF compensated EOC images is shown.

  • In this paper, we present the Tele-PACS of radiology, which uses the communication network as asymetric satellite data communication system. The asymetric satellite data communication system uses receive-only satellite links for data delivery and PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) modem or N-ISDN(Integrate Services Digital Network) for communication. The satellite communication linking shows the very high-speed performance than terrestial linking such as 28.8 kbps modem linking and 56Kbps linking. The satellite linking is 5 - 10 times faster than the 56Kbps linking. We conclude that 1) Satellite networking is currently the cheapest and fastest solution for internet access. 2) Web-based Image-Viewer enables small size hospitals in rural area to connect to central PACS easily and to retrieve the image data reliably. 3) The suggested teleradiology system using satellite networking could be adequate to fast telemedicine and telecare for rural hospitals especially located in geographically isolated areas such as islands.

  • Numberous satellites have monitored the Earth in order to detect changes in a large area. These satellites provide orbit information such as ephemeris data, RPC coefficients and etc. besides image data. If we can use such orbit data afforded by satellite, we can reduce the number of control point for geo-referencing. This paper shows the efficient geometric correction method of strip-satellite RADARSAT-l SAR images acquired by same orbit using ephemeris data, single control point and virtual control points. For accuracy analysis of proposed method, this paper compared the image geometrically corrected by the proposed method to the image corrected by ERDAS Imagine.

  • GOES-9 has been operated with the status of the Image Motion Compensation(IMC) off since last October. As the IMC function turned off, the sub-satellite point(SSP) of GVAR data was changed with the effect of the satellite motions. This makes the image registration, to maintain pixels within an image and between successive images to their earth-referenced information, not to be possible any more. In the paper, we introduce the method to accomplish image registration and the result of the SSP observation with the status of IMC off.
