Net production, dead material increments were measured, and annual respiration loss was simulated through a year to determine the gross production at the Phragmites longivalvis, Carex scabrifolia and Zoysia sinica stand on Okryudeung, a sand bar of the Nagdong river estuary. The maximum live biomass for above-ground organs of the three stands occured in October, i.e., 1, 985, 744 and 1, 013g/m2, and belowground net productions were estimated to be 650, 440 and 412g/m2, respectively. Materials died or shedding from live aboveground organs during the growth season were estimated to be 167, 81 and 0 g/$m^2$. From the results of simulation, annual variation of respiratiion was primarily dependent on the annual variation of temperature through a year. For annual respiration loss in three stands, 21.893, 6.147 and 5.036kg $CO_2/m^2$ were calculated, respectively. Corresponding gross productions were 72, 203, 22, 109 and 19, 909kcal/$m^2$. Respiration of belowground organs corresponded to 65%, 66% and 37% of the total plant respiration, and annual respiration loss accounted for 85%, 78% and 71% of the annual gross production. In view of efficiency of solar energy utilization, 5.8%, 1.8% and 1.6% of incident light energy were converted to gross production of plants during a year. With incident light energy during the growth season from April to September, energy utilizations for net production were estimated to be 1.2%, 0.4% and 0.6% at the three stands.
The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between microphytobenthic biomass and normalized vegetation index obtained from Landsat TM images. Monitoring a seasonal change of microphytobenthic biomass in the sand bar is specifically focused. Since the study area, Hampyeong Bay, was difficult to approach, we failed to obtain ground truths simultaneously on satellite image acquisition. Instead, chlorophyll-a concentration in surface top layer was measured on different dates for microphytobenthic biomass. Although data were acquired on different dates, a correlation between the field and satellite images was calculated for investigating general trends of seasonal change. NDVI and tasseled cap transformed images were also used to review the variation of microphytobenthic biomass by using Landsat TM and ETM+ images. Atmosphere effects were corrected by applying COST model. Seaweeds were also flouring in the same season of microphytobentic blooming. Songseok-ri area was minimally affected by seaweeds from February to May, and selected as a test site. NDVI value was classified into high-, moderate-, and low-grade. It was well developed over fme-grained sediments and rapidly reduced from May to November over sand bar. In this bay, correlation between grain size and microphytobenthic biomass was clearly seen. From the classified NDVI and tasseled cap transformed data, we finally constructed spatial distribution and seasonal variation maps of microphytobenthic biomass.

In this numerical study, the separation efficiency of three-phase separator in an oil-sand plant was studied with various inlet head configurations. The free water knockout (FWKO) vessel was designed with a flow rate of $15.89m^3/day$ (100 bbl/day) and the SOR(stream-to-oil ratio)=3.5 was derived using Stokes' law. For modularization, optimization of the design of the inlet head configuration was performed with parallel-connected dual FWKO vessels. The feed condition of bitumen emulsion was API=17, $T_{in}=150^{\circ}C$ and $P_{in}=50bar$. A mean residence time was determined the time when 95% of the oil and water in FWKO vessel was separated. The combination between the volume of fluid (VOF) and the discrete phase model (DPM) was used to simulate the phase separation phenomenon in a multi-phase separator. Furthermore, in order to calculate multi-phase flow the pseudo-transient method was adopted.

The significant sedimentation at the estuary in the eastern coast of Korea frequently causes river mouth occlusion where disconnection between the river and sea is observed. River mouth occlusion causing watershed retention raises the environmental risk of the area as it impairs water quality and threatens the area's safety in the event of floods. This study proposes a plan to maintain stability of river channel and flow of flood discharge at the estuary with loss of its function for disaster prevention. To this end, the study tries to change the location and width of stream path, focusing on the center line of stream near the sand bar of river mouth. This allows to identify a shape of stream path that leads the most stable flow. To review the result, this study uses the SRH-2D, a model for two-dimensional hydraulic analysis, and conduct numeric simulation. The simulation result showed that the most effective plan for maintaining the stable flow of running water without having the area sensitive to changes in hydraulic characteristics is to lower the overall river bed height of the sand bar near the center line of stream to a equal level.

Currently, composite lining mountain tunnels in China are generally classified based on the [BQ] method for the surrounding rock grade. Increasingly, tunnel field construction is replicated indoors for scale down model tests. However, the development of analogous materials for model tests of composite lining tunnels with different surrounding rock grades is still unclear. In this study, typical Class III and V surrounding rock analogous materials and corresponding composite lining support materials were developed. The whole processes of excavation-support dynamics of the mountain tunnels were simulated. Data on the variation of deformations, contact pressures and strains on the surrounding rock were obtained. Finally, a comparative analysis between model tests and numerical simulations was performed to verify the rationality of analogous material development. The following useful conclusions were obtained by analyzing the data from the tests. The main analogous materials of Class III surrounding rock are barite powder, high-strength gypsum and quartz sand with fly ash, quartz sand, anhydrous ethanol and rosin for Class V surrounding rock. Analogous materials for rockbolts, steel arches are replaced by aluminum bar and iron bar respectively with both shotcrete and secondary lining corresponding to gypsum and water. In addition, load release rate of Class V surrounding rock should be less than Class III surrounding rock. The fenestration level had large influence on the load sharing ratio of the secondary lining, with a difference of more than 30%, while the influence of the support time was smaller. The Sharing ratios of secondary lining in Class III surrounding rock do not exceed 12%, while those of Class V surrounding rock exceed 40%. The overall difference between the results of model tests and numerical simulations is small, which verifies the feasibility of similar material development in this study.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the geomorphological environment changes of tidal flat in the Cheonsu Bay. Especially, it centers on the changes in the sedimentary environment using remote sensing data. Multi-temporal Landsat data and topographic maps were used in this study. The results are summarized as follows: the tidal flat of Cheonsu Bay changes in many ways depending on the direction of the tidal current. In the neighborhood of Ganwoldo, the scale of the tidal flat has continuously been expanded due to the superiority of sedimentation after a tide embankment was built. When we analyzed the grain size of sediments and implemented in-situ field survey, it was found that the innermost part of the bay consists of a mud flat, with the midway part mixed flat, and the nearest part to the sea sand flat. On the other hand, in the neighborhood of Seomot isle and its beach, sedimentation is superior in the eastern part whereas erosion is superior in the western part. In other words, the western coast of the beach is contacted with the open seas and under much influence of ocean wave. The eastern coast is placed at the entrance of the bay and has sand bar and tidal flat developed due to submarine deposits that are accumulated on the sea floor by the tidal current. In conclusions, remote sensing methods can be effectively applied for quantitative analysis of geomorphological changes in tidal flat, and it is expected that the proposed schemes can be applied to another geomorphological environments such as beach, sand dune, and sand wave.
Phenomenon of vegetation recruitment on the sand bar is drastically rising in the streams and rivers in Korea. In the 1960s prior to industrialization and urbanization, most of the streams were consisted of sands and gravels, what we call, 'White River'. Owing to dam construction, stream maintenance, etc. carried out since the '70s, the characteristic of flow duration and sediment transport have been disturbed resulting in the abundance of vegetation in the waterfront, that is, 'Green River' is under progress. This study purposed to identify the correlation among water level, water temperature, rainfall, soil moisture and soil texture out of the factors which give an effect on the vegetation recruitment on the sand bar of unregulated stream. To this purpose, this study selected the downstream of Naeseong Stream, one of sand rivers in Korea, as the river section for test and conducted the monitoring and analysis for 289 days. In addition, this study analyzed the aerial photos taken from 1970 to 2009 in order to identify the aged change in vegetation from the past to the present. The range of the tested river section was 361 m in transverse length and about 2 km in longitudinal length. According to the survey analysis, the tested river section in Naeseong Stream was a gaining river showing the higher underground-water level by 20~30 m compared to Stream water level. The difference in the underground water temperature was less than $5^{\circ}C$ by day and season and the Stream temperature did not fall to $10^{\circ}C$ and less from May when the vegetation germination begins in earnest. The impact factor on soil moisture was the underground water level in the lower layer and the rainfall in the upper layer and it was found that all the upper and lower layer were influenced by soil particle size. The soil from surface to 1 m-underground out of 6 soil moisture-measured points was sand with the $D_{50}$ size of 0.07~1.37 mm and it's assumed that the capillary height possible in the particle size would reach around 14~43 cm. On the other hand, according to the result of space analysis on the tested river section of unregulated stream for 40 years, it was found that the artificial disturbance and drought promoted the vegetation recruitment and the flooding resulted in the frequency extinction of vegetation communities. Even though the small and large scales of recruitment and extinction in vegetation have been repeated since 1970, the present vegetation area increased clearly compared to the past. It's found that the vegetation area is gradually increasing over time.
This study aim that definite the relationship between coastal environment and different sand bar communities, as well as to analyze their spatial distribution of barrier island in the Nakdong river estuary. Survey method follow by Braun-Blanquet(1965) and there a total of 118 relev$\acute{e}$'s were undertaken. Definition of the relationships between species and environmental variables with Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCoA) and that to applied these relev$\acute{e}$'s with the RIM(Kim and Kim, 2006) program and that to classification used the SYN-TAX 2000 program(Podani 1979). On the basis of about 118 phytosociological releve's, the vegetation of xeric and hydric type was arranged in twelve plant communities: Xeric type-Pinus thunbergii community,Vitex rotundifolia community, Carex pumila community, Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii community, Miscanthus sacchariflorus community and Calystegia soldanella community, Hydric type-Salix dependens-Calamagrostis epigeios community, Calamagrostis epigeios-Phragmites communis community, Phragmites communis-Ischaemum aristatum community, Phragmites communis community, Scirpus planiculmis community and Suaeda glauca-S. japonica community. These plant communities represents sand dune vegetation and salt marsh vegetation. Widely distributing types in the actual vegetation map were sea club-rush community, reed community in salt marsh, and dry grassland. The edge in the coastal sand bars has zonation that almost distribution by the reed community in salt marsh. But outside of it were distributed sea club-rush community. Dry grassland type distributes higher zone of the center in coastal sand bars. Respectively, the coastal sand dune and salt marsh vegetation types were distributed ocean and inland on the frontier of it.

Water repellent surfaces may enhance the condensation by efficiently removing the condensed droplets. However, such surfaces may lose their original performance as they are exposed to external mechanical stresses. In this work, we fabricated spray-coated mechanically robust superhydrophobic surfaces using treated titanium dioxide (Type 1) or silica particles (Type 2). Then we compared the mechanical robustness of such surfaces with the silane-coated superhydrophobic surface and PEEK coated surface using a controlled-sand blasting method. The results show that the spray-coated samples can maintain the same level of the contact angle hysteresis than silane-coated superhydorphobic surface after sand blasting at 2 bar. The spray-coating method was applied to the tube type condenser and the condensation behaviors were observed within the environmental chamber with controlled pressure, humidity and non-condensable gas. Previously-reported droplet jumping was observed in the early stage of the condensation event, but soon the droplet jumping stopped and only dropwise condensation was observed since the condensed droplets were pinned on the cracks at spray-coated surfaces. The static contact angle decreases from $158.0^{\circ}$ to $133.2^{\circ}$, and hysteresis increases from $3.0^{\circ}$ to $23.5^{\circ}$ when active condensation occurs on such surfaces. This work suggests the benefits and limitation of spray-coated superhydrophobic condensers and help develop advanced condensers for practical use.

Authors tried to classify landforms of civilian-restricted trans-border coastal region of the East Sea by using both field survey and remote sensing data including IKONOS images and digital maps. As a result, authors can draw the boundaries of landform units on satellite images and classify landforms effectively. Typical landforms of undisturbed depositional coastal area such as coastal sand dune, sand bar, lagoons, and tombolo are found within the study area. Also, riverine wetlands and estuarine wetlands are readily discernable on both satellite image and field survey. Even though landforms within the study area are relatively small, they are so dynamically connected that their preservation value is very high.
